In the News…

- Nick Jonas is going solo. Apparently, the name of his new solo act is called “Nick Jonas and the Administration.” How very…school ish of him? Wait, what does this mean for The Jonas Brothers?

- Disney World is welcoming a new character to their theme park: Princess Tianna of Disney’s The Princess and the Frog.

- Paramore’s new single to be released is “Brick by Boring Brick.”

- Ben Stiller and Robert Deniro were on the set of their new movie yesterday, “Little Fockers.” …again really?

- Tegan and Sara released their new album Sainthood today!

- Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen are launching a new junior lines for JC Penney called “Olsenboye.” The clothes are actually decent looking, I would wear it. But then again, I’m also the same girl that said she would wear Stella McCartney’s line for Gap Kids. The line is set to debut in 600 stores starting February. Find out more about the line here

- Actress Keira Knightley will play the part of Eliza Doolittle in a remake of “My Fair Lady.”

Let’s watch movies

Precious, a story based on the novel Push by Sapphire, is about a young girl still in high school who is pregnant with her second child from her own father and also suffers from constant physical and verbal abuse from her mother. It has received a great deal of attention and talk from many film festivals and you can expect some celebrity appearances by Mo’Nique, Mariah Carey, and Lenny Kravitz.

And then we fall in love w/ Joseph Gordon-Levitt all over again! Even after watching that trailer, I still have no idea what the movie is about.

50 best foods in the WORLD and how to om nom

50. Best place to eat: Ramen
Ramen Jiro, Tokyo

“People in Japan always say ramen (Japanese noodle soup) can’t be this and can’t be that. Ramen Jiro is very non-traditional, in your face, take it or leave it. You either love it or hate it, but people who like it are good people. It’s got pork, it’s got cabbage, it’s got garlic, and the sauce is sweet. It’s gnarly. There are several branches; my favourite is the one near Keio University.”

I dare someone to try all of these!

PostSecret 10/26

My favorites of this week:

If you’re not on board with this project, you need to be. I’ve never been so supportive of a movement, yet it’s one of those projects that I find so hard to do myself. I can take a picture every day for a year, run my own blog and write heartfelt letters to all of my dearest high school friends and favorite teachers, but I can’t bring myself to write my secret onto a post card and send it in. Funny how things work huh?

The Secret Handshake – Don’t Call

I miss listening to this band so much. Sorry for the poor sound quality, but this version is the one I first listened to and it’s better than the one on the CD

I miss the television present

Jim: For a really long time, that’s all I had. I just had… little moments with a girl who saw me as a friend. And, a lot of people told me I was crazy to wait this long for a date with a girl who I worked with. But I think, even then, I knew that I was waiting for my wife.

*****

I miss watching this show so much. I wish I had the time. What I love about this relationship is that it was never skeezy in any way and I hope I can have something like this too.

Touch Me Hold Me

In hopes of receiving more attention and seeing an increasing jump in visitors at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, they are now allowing their  guests to touch the art and paintings?

“Though it contains more than two million pieces and represents a profound legacy of artistic achievement, most people remain completely indifferent to our museum,” Met director Thomas P. Campbell said. “So we decided to try something a little different and give visitors a chance to experience our timeless works of art up close and personal.”

Personally, I think even  if I had the chance to do this, I wouldn’t. Maybe it’s because I have an artist for a father, but I would never DARE touch any of his stuff. Even pictures, I was taught only to touch lightly at corners and I insisted that people do the same. I appreciate art, I really do. In some cases I understand wanting to be close to something in another way and while it’s important to feel texture, I could do w/o this option.

Regardless, this seems to work for them. Attendance was increased as expected and there are waiting lines up to about 45 minutes. Looks like they’re doing something right.

It’s nice to meet you

I like to think that I’m what you call a “Savvy Spender.” Since my senior year in high school, I have been very careful about my purchases. For the most part, I do my shopping at H&M and Forever 21. If I’m in the mood, I’ll hit up secondhand for a random purchase. For investment pieces, I turn towards Urban Outfitters and American Apparel and Anthropologie. Every piece that comes from one of these stores has been with me since the beginning. When I was a 16, I bought a gray Anthropologie cardigan with odd buttons. Not your standard cardigan. I’ve worn it at least ten different ways and I spent a good $100 on it. I wouldn’t normally spend that much on a cardigan, but I knew this piece would last me forever and I take very good care of it.

I don’t call my purchases items. I call them pieces. For pieces that are classic or timeless…I turn to Nordstrom. Today I bought a pair of black heels (above) from there. The last pair of black heels I bought from them lasted me from 8th grade to my sophomore year in college. It was time to retire them and replace them. PS every girl needs a pair of black high heels.

Nolita, welcome to the family :)

An underrated drink at the Bistro

Seattle U students:

Have you tried the vanilla rootbeer cream soda? Seriously. It’s the best thing ever. Sometimes it’s a special sometimes it’s not, but if it’s not you can still order it.

So do it. I do everyday.

This Providence – Certain Words in Uncertain Times

This song was my favorite song when I was 16 years old. It found me when I was at the peak of my scene lyfe. I’ve been thinking a lot about it lately. Not this song, but who I used to be and how I’m driven by this passion to work with music. Even though I’m 19, I already know that I could be perfectly happy with working in this business for a very long time. It’s funny looking back on the fact that all of this, this song, the way I dressed, the people I was around essentially the scene is responsible for defining who I am today.

I love this song. Maybe I’ve grown up out of “the scene,” but some things will never change. I can still have my old life and my new life. :)
