The Return of Something Corporate

Everyone was super excited to hear that Something Corporate would be one of the headliners this year at Bamboozle, but little did we know, big news was on the way. Something even bigger. Something Corporate had gone back into the studio to record once again and will be debuting their “Best of” album in April or May.

The new album will also include some re-recordings of demos that never made the final cut for the other two Something Corporate albums. Andrew McMahon commented, ““We went back into the studio sort of with the idea that we wouldn’t be bringing in brand new material so we could get it done quickly and not have to do a bunch of pre-production and stuff. We just hung out in the studio for a week. First time we had been in a studio together in, God, probably four or five years.”

Removal of Pong Beer

The lovely county of Orange has decided that when underage and overage teens play the game of beer pong,  they become too rowdy. They are so rowdy that it has become a problem for the residents of Huntington Beach who strive to maintain their respectful and positive (non drinking?) image. uhh yeah right

When something like this happens, what does the city council decide to do? BAN BEER PONG! The official ban is as follows:

“The ban affects the downtown Huntington Beach community and puts a stop to all alcohol-based games played in restaurants or other businesses that must apply and a secure an entertainment permit.”

I thought Huntington Beach was known for partying? It’s a beach!

Also tidbit of the day, beer pong is also another name for “beirut.” I like that band.

Jack’s Mannequin – I’m Ready

When did society decide that we had to change
And wash a tee shirt after every individual use:
If it’s not dirty, I’m gonna wear it.

T-Minus: One day.

Haiti Relief Benefit Concert @ Neumos

If the hip hop scene is more your thing than soft, pretty, French music then you should come out to Neumos to catch Common Market, my friend’s band Dyno Jamz (all the way from UW!) and SOL. The show will be full of energy plus the proceeds are going to a good cause. Do something good for your community! er… the world.

Doors are at 7 PM

$10 ticket advance $12 at the door.

Out on the Town: 2/4

Come see the French group Nouvelle Vague tonight at the King Cat Theater. They are so great. You better go see them. They’re from France after all, so if you don’t see them tonight who knows when you’ll see them next?

Before you go, listen to their hit song, “This is Not a Love Song.” $20 ADV $25 at the doors. All ages.

Private PDA

Can you imagine just walking around the city and seeing little white paper orbs everywhere? It’s a cute creation, but I think people won’t care enough to want to hide their PDA at this day and age. The level of expression is already out of control.

So if there’s a white paper orb in your purse, what will you be able to put in it?

Studies Show: The Internet is Depressing?

This leaves me with an unsettling feeling especially because it’s a known fact that when you have a blog, you are going to spend a good amount of your time on the internet. I rarely read newspapers now since all of the news I need to read is online! I guess I can’t say I didn’t see this coming. After all, look at what everyone is doing these days. We are absolutely consumed by Twitter, Facebook, blogs, downloading music, watching free television and movies online. There’s very little that we can do without it.

Researches have recently discovered that spending copious amounts of time on the internet can lead to depression.

(deep breath in) Processing that thought…

“Researchers questioned 1,319 people, ages 16 to 51, and discovered a high correlation between amount of time spent online and depression. In fact, among what the researchers characterized as “internet addicts,” the “average depression score was more than five times higher than that of non-addicted users.”

What is the main reason behind this study? Spending so much time on the internet is a substitute for an actual social life, which we all know is pretty much required to have a normal life. Your computer cannot be your best friend. Another reason is because it is used as an outlet to escape from normal life and the problems in it.

I don’t know what their definition is for an internet addict exactly, but speaking for myself, I would say that I spend more time on the internet than the average person. If not the internet, then definitely the computer. If you need some advice on cutting back, my answer would be to get rid of accounts that you no longer use anymore and that you just don’t care about. I recently deleted my Myspace and Last.Fm. I only kept them for so long (even w/o using them) so that I could one day look back on them and see what sort of things/phases I went through. Turns out, I would never really do that.

Shank

London is great. This movie is about gang violence. It’s a great trailer to watch this late at night. Awesome choices on my part. Truthfully, it probably won’t be released over here in the states. I actually won’t be trying that hard to watch it unless a) it is really good and I have to see it myself. Other than that Kaya Scodelario is in it and I adore her!! I’m still behind on Skins. Maybe I’ll watch that when I get a break.

Out on the Town: 2/13

Lonely Valentiners:

Have I got the event for you…

Dan Savage, famous columnist, of The Stranger is an expert on love. This Valentine’s Day, we won’t be celebrating it though. If you are single, a divorcee, or have just gotten out of a nasty breakup, Dan wants you to truck on down to Neumos to vent about this relationship and completely get OVER it, with his help of course.

“Wedding rings, china, sex toys: bring your memento to Neumos on Saturday, February 13, tell your sad story to the cheering mob—they’ll be cheering for you!—and then I will personally destroy your memento for you live onstage in a heart-mending ritual that will help you heal and move past your heartbreak. You will love again!”

As a bonus, by coming to the Valentine’s Day bash, you will receive a a Cupcake Royale Deathcake! If you don’t go home with a date after this event, at least you have something better :)

Doors are at 8. Mingle until the show at 9:30. $6 Advance Tickets and $8 at the door.
