Chris Walla starts up record label

Chris Walla is a God. He is the guitarist in Death Cab For Cutie and in 2008, he released his first solo album Field Manual. If you haven’t listened to it yet, you should. It’s a great album and definitely one of my favorites.

In the past Chris has worked on albums done by The Postal Service, Tegan and Sara, Hot Hot Heat, The Thermals, and The Decemberists.

His new label entitled Trans is kicking off to a great start. Which Seattle band was first to sign w/ Chris? Why, The Lonely Forest of course. These guys are also great live and will be head into the studio this spring to record their LP.

Song of the Day

B.o.B. – Nothin’ On You

I know what you’re thinking right now. What am I doing putting a mainstream song up on my blog right now? Especially since this one is all over the radio. Here’s the thing: I spent a large portion of the day searching for new music today on a site that throws at me all this new indie and hip hop etc. but nothing sat well with me. Then I remembered this song and I remembered how much I loved it when I was driving back to school a few weekends ago and here we are.

Yes, it’s mainstream. The beat is good and I like it. I’d like you to know that when I talk down mainstream music, it’s only for the terrible mainstream. Therefore…this works!

Young Me / Now Me

Being a college student doesn’t really leave you w/ enough time ever to reminisce back on your childhood. In fact it makes you, correction, forces you to throw yourself forward into the future. These things happen sometimes I guess.

Young Me / Now Me is a great site that lets us relive our carefree childhood days and brings back the kid in all of us that we once knew. Don’t ever grow up! Sometimes things just don’t get that much better? hahah that’s terrible advice. Do what you wanna do.

EDIT: I was just on this site looking for 15 minutes. New favorite! Win.

Google eats up Picnik

This morning, Google bought out Seattle-based photo editing website Picnik. Picnik, who’s headquarters are near Pike Place Market, is a photo editing tool that resembles a much easier and simpler version of Photoshop. It’s nice because it makes everyone feel like they are a creative genius when all you have to do  click on filters and pull back and forth on little bars.

YES!

I’ve actually used Picnik a few times through Flickr, mostly when I’m too lazy to make myself think too hard in Photoshop and the pictures turn out pretty nicely. It’s always best to not go too overboard with photo-editing because no one really gives an eff about your over-contrasted photos. Hurts the eyes, makes you look annoying. Almost as annoying as the old school Myspace default mirror pics, if not more.

Debbie Does Cakes

Hi, I am a pastry fiend. I love all kind of desserts: cupcakes, pie, ice cream, cookies, anything w/ fruit, and CAKES. Yesterday, I dragged my friend along with me down to Cupcake Royale so that I could fulfill my craving of red velvet cupcakes. It was a craving that lasted a week!

Today, I discovered Debbie Does Cakes. Debbie Goard is a cake mastermind from San Francisco. I can only describe her work of art as the cakes that celebrities show off at their birthday parties, but of course Debbie has much more class than that.

Did I do that?

The burrito was spicy. I don’t remember asking for invisible jalapenos in it. I suppose I learned a very important moral  just then through my own experience. If something is going to “pack the punch” too hard, throw it out. But that burrito got the best of me. I was led to believe that that the boy’s bathroom was the trash room and obviously had walked too far.

Oh that one got me good.

And now I hear that voice in the back of my head from a dear friend, “Your life is fascinating…”

Why yes, yes it is.

Bloggers to the Front

First Tavi took Fashion Week by storm, now this girl gets the chance of a lifetime to sit in front row of New York’s fashion week. It’s cool, it’s only been my dream for like five years… as long as she (above) has been alive. Turns out this was a prank that Racked.com pulled on the new famous bloggers that have taken over the front row giving the celebrities the boot. I am jealous.

What did her notes look like exactly? Extensive and detailed I’m sure with sketches to match.

Here’s what little Katie had to say about her experiences during Fashion Week:

I went to the Hautelook lounge and had three donuts. I met Carlota, the vice president of Hautelook, and I interviewed her about her job. I told her my favorite color is turquoise, like the flower on her necklace. Then I put on some glitter make-up and lip gloss, talked on my favorite pink phone, and checked my email. Carlota gave me a goody bag with beauty products I’m going to give to my mom and a gift certificate to Hautelook.com that I’m going to share with my big brother.

Um, so cute!!!

New Header!

Happy Month of March Everyone!

This was a really difficult header for me to pick because March is very dear and near to my heart. It is my birthday month, my spring break, and the beginning of spring in general! So I went through my library of photos… do I find something w/ candles, red velvet cake, balloons? Nothing stood out to me.

Last March I used a picture of two pairs of heels, one in Barbie pink and one pair of Chanel’s. That was a good picture. It’s so good it’s my desktop background. But now it’s March 2010.

Welcome to the birthday party.
