Photographs of Soldiers Before, During, and After Afghanistan

photo cred | Lalage Snow

Photographer Lalage Snow photographed and interviewed members of 1st Battalion The Royal Regiment of Scotland before they were sent to Afghanistan, after three months’ service, and days after they returned home. Their faces show the toll that fighting in Afghanistan takes on our troops.

There is something so haunting about these photographs. As I was scrolling through them, I had a hard time describing what I was exactly feeling, but if I could describe it in one word – it would be piercing. The interviews following the photographs are also just has difficult to read. I still thought that it was a piece worth sharing though.

Hey, this looks very similar with the work done by Dutch photographer Claire Felicie who’s Marked series was featured on PetaPixel.com, back in December 2011.
