Google Eliminates Google Reader

On July 1st, Google will be eliminating Google Reader and based on the reaction of this news spread across Twitter, blogs, and other social media outlets, there are some very unhappy people. Kevin included. Since its existence, Kevin has been trying to get me to use Google Reader mostly because he can’t stand the way that I have all of my blogs listed in a notepad with dates next to them of when I last read the blog. I’ll admit, it’s an inefficient way to do things, but it’s the way  Yow Yow rolls.

Why is Google Reader dying?

There are two simple reasons for this: usage of Google Reader has declined, and as a company we’re pouring all of our energy into fewer products. We think that kind of focus will make for a better user experience.

While I never used Google Reader myself, I still believe that it’s a great way to collect all of the news you need straight from an RSS feed. The concept just worked and judging from how many people that are upset by this, Google may want to think twice.
