Doutzen Kroes – “Daughter Won’t Be Told She’s Beautiful.”

I’m not a feminist by any means, but I love it when strong females in any industry are willing to stand up for women and empower others by the words they say to the media. Every time my mom and I chat, we’re always bringing up what it means to be a female who is career oriented and driven. We both look up to Sheryl Sandberg and we’re both in awe of strong female leaders! It’s weird for me to excited about something like this, but it’s a topic that I think is coming to light in a time where not everyone is on the same page about it. I mean about a year ago, I was still surrounded by males who saw women one way and wanted to keep them in their place – taking care of the children, leaving the workforce, being a trophy wife. It was an eye-opening experience.

This morning, I read an article about model Doutzen Kroes and how she was going to tell her daughter as she grew up that she was smart – not beautiful. Doutzen is one of the most beautiful women in the world and while she hears that she is beautiful all the time she wants her own daughter to strive for intelligence over beauty.

“Instead of saying, ‘You’re so beautiful,’ I’ll say, ‘You’re smart,’ so she’ll have different aspirations in life than beauty and modelling,” the 29-year-old told Page Six.

“Though I love my job, I’m not changing the world. I’d love for her to study and to have different aspirations. We need to teach girls they can become presidents, and it’s not about beauty all the time.”

YES!
