Five Favorite Pins: Closet Organization

When it was summer and nearing fall, I always remembered cleaning out my closet and getting ready to insert in a new fall wardrobe. However, that just couldn’t be done without getting rid of the old. It’s amazing how much I’ve acquired over the years and how hard it is for me to let go of pieces even without even wearing them for an entire year. Why do I do this to myself you might ask? Because I’m a hoarder. No, because I’ve pretty much convinced myself that while I may not have a use for it now – some day I will look at that piece and incorporate it with something that I’ve recently bought. Trust. This never works. It never happens. You just end up taking up lots of space and running out of hangers. I have a bag in my room that I’ve gradually added pieces to that I am hoping to donate and it is an ongoing project. Well, I’m not in school anymore, but I still believe that fall is the perfect time to give your closet a refresher and here are just a few of my favorite pins that I hope will inspire me to take the next step in re-organizing my own closet.

One of the very first purchases I made when I moved into my new place this year was a clothing rack. It not only helps to fill out my room a little bit more, but it makes for a really simple and great display. You can use it in a variety of ways, but I’ve mostly used it to hang my newest pieces so that I can separate it from my older ones and remember to wear these ones (my newest and favorites) often! You can buy one anywhere, but yes, I went cheapo and purchased mine from IKEA where they have several at different price levels.

Having something like this may not be feasible for an apartment in New York or San Francisco, but it is still a pretty great idea to have an actual thing that you can build as your closet outside of a normal one. I really like how this is organized and how perfect it would be for a guy to keep all of his stuff in one place like this. What is through that door though? I’m so very curious.

Storage bins attached within a wardrobe like this are ideal. I think I would almost prefer them to drawers because you can immediately view your options right away. They also aren’t as clunky as drawers are and kind of brighten up closet organization.

So not everyone can have a walk-in closet, but if we could choose, we’d take this one or one very similar to it.

Shoe organization is my ultimate goal someday in life. It’s something that I feel like I haven’t ever really succeeded at it and even looking at a photograph like this makes me feel like it’s going to be years until I can even get this close. I’ve seen lots of bookshelves with shoes lined up on them and shoes in boxes with photos of them on the outside, but what I love about these bookshelves specifically is the spacing. I like how there are two columns  of them and a number of rows whereas I think six rows of shoes would completely overwhelm me.
