Seattle, You Haven’t Changed

Processed with VSCOcam with a6 preset

I spent a grand ten days back home in Seattle for the holidays – the longest visit out of all of my visits since I moved to the Bay. Prior to flying back, I thought that my duration was going to be a bit too long for my own comfort, but I actually found myself really enjoying being home. In the past, I had to make all of my plans one week ahead and jam pack my entire day so that I could see everyone and not have to drive back and forth out of Seattle. This year, I decided to not really do any of that. The home was quiet, the silence was nice, and my parents are funny so they make for some pretty good company. On my second day home, my girlfriends from college and I brunched at Portage Bay in the land of Amazon buildings! This area is so quiet because people only come to Amazon to work on the weekdays.

First meal off the plane? A warm plate of loco moco from Kona Kitchen! The loco moco never photographs well, but how does it settle in the stomach? Fully.

Whenever I’m back in my old stomping grounds of Capitol Hill, I always make sure to stop by Elliott Bay Books to see if they have a new selection of greeting cards. I know this is going to make me sound like I’m 65, but if I could collect anything right now it would probably be quirky greeting cards.

Veronica and I found ourselves in need of a snack on Christmas Eve and we’re so glad that Marination Station was open so that I could nom on some Spam sliders! I could eat 8 of these.

We used to have this tradition that we would open one present on Christmas Eve. I really think that my parents only made that tradition because I couldn’t wait to open a new Polly Pocket set that I would be getting. We don’t really do that anymore because Kevin and I just naturally know what we’re going to get and we can wait until Christmas morning, but we opened one present early from Kevin’s friend Anne in LA and I was obsessed. Three peas in a pod! So cute and squishy!

Kevin orders a bunch of fancy cookies every year for our family that I find to be sugary. Clearly they aren’t too sugary for our younger cousins who got cookie wasted at the family party.

My nephew and niece are too cute and she’s going to be my mini-me.

Veronica once blogged about Ada’s Book Store in Capitol Hill for Yow Yow! but I hadn’t got to see the store in person until now. Most of the books sold here are technical and/or books that you can learn from. The space is gorgeous though. Naturally we stopped by some prints and I just had to take this one of the planets home. Can’t wait to frame this for my wall and have another piece of Seattle with me.

For NYE, we were back in the city and caught a DJ set by Mayer Hawthorne!

It was a great year 2014, but Spencer and I are ready for 2015 and to be 25! Quarter mid-life crisis here we come.
