Proud Owner:

What person doesn’t love to start out the year with a brand new spankin’ wardrobe?! Not only was “dressing better” one of my resolutions this year, it was also just dressing smarter. I wanted to really invest in long-lasting pieces that I knew I could wear over and over again and with other pieces that I already love. That means not succumbing to trends that are going to go away in a season and making sure that when I buy a piece I really love it. Over the holidays, I went on a little splurge at one of my favorite stores – Aritzia. I already own so much from them, but for the past couple of weeks they have been having a massive sale and naturally we had to take advantage of it. In fact, I’ve already been wearing a new piece from them every day this week and I’m bummed that I didn’t get to document it – but my new clothes aren’t going anywhere so they’ll be another opportunity for this.

I kicked off this past Monday with my new Babaton Dexter Pant. I knew that this was going to be something that I was hunting for in the new year so when I went to Aritzia I picked out a couple of black pants in similar styles. This one was actually picked out for me by a woman working at the store and granted it was the most expensive pair…but it was by far, the best pair. I love the way that I feel in these. Completely comfortable and ready to do anything. The elastic waist band was exactly what I was looking for because I didn’t want to struggle with a drawstring (too casual) and buttons and a clasp (too complicated.) When I wear these pants, I can just put them on and go. I paired these with a black sleeveless Madewell blouse and my Vince Camuto heels. It was fancy, but not too fancy. We satisfied the “I, at least, look put together on a Monday” look.

Now, we already talked about how I wore this dress for New Years Eve, but I loved it so much that I couldn’t wait to wear it again. There was no way this was going to get a one-time use. I wore this dress with my black Oak + Fort cardigan, grey Munro booties, and my black beanie also from Aritizia to dress it down.

When I found this dress in stores, they didn’t have my size. Instead, I ordered it online so that it would arrive straight to me on Monday morning when I got to work. This was a piece that I felt like I was taking the biggest risk on. I rarely wear things that are of this length because I’m so mini and I thought I would drown in it. However, I loved that it was it fitting in all of the right places. It didn’t make me look skinny mini, but it wasn’t frumpy on me either. I wore this with my Aritizia Wilfred scarf that I’ve been wearing everywhere and my grey Munro booties. Nadia said I should have worn my black booties instead. She might have been right about that one.

Another piece that I was looking for this year was a simple t-shirt dress. The fabric on this dress is so nice and another thing that I love about this is that it can go from day to night pretty easily. I wore this out once in Seattle because I got overly excited about it, but I’m also saving it for a dinner party that I’m attending this weekend. My only concern is how quickly it can wrinkle, but if you’re wearing it out at night no one will be able to see it anyways!

Since we’re having a pretty strong Aritzia week, we’re going to finish it out. Above is my Saturday. Tomorrow, I’ll be wearing an older black Aritzia blazer with a cream crocheted dress and my beanie and Friday is reversed for my favorite pair of Aritzia leggings and my Russell Wilson jersey!

Other buys from break:

This ring that I purchased from Madewell is only the brass portion of it. At first, I thought they could be separated, but then I realized you couldn’t take the gold bar off. Whatever the case, I really like wearing it alongside my Catbird Lovecats ring.

I actually bought these pants from Alternative Apparel right before my holiday break and when I bought them it was because I was trying to step up my fancy sweat pants game to match my friend Jackson. Turns out, I didn’t pull them off very well – at least in my head I didn’t think I did. When I wore these to work I felt lazier, slower, and more tired. I was never that kid in high school that loved to wear sweats. I remember seeing couples wearing sweats together and I just thought “WHAT?!” I’m the kind of person that finds parents letting their kids wear PJs to the airport weird. I gave it a shot, but to be honest, I’m much more comfortable in leggings or those black pants above. I will say, however, that I put these sweats on everyday when I get home from work and change out of my dresses. All in all, it was a pretty good buy, I’d say.
