2015 Current Trends in Bridal Gowns

Wedding season is almost upon us and with a friend of mine having a low key wedding this summer and another dear friend of mine planning out her wedding that’s happening in April 2016, all I’m thinking about is weddings! It’s actually the perfect time to start thinking about the trends that we’ll be seeing this year so I wanted to share some thoughts on what my favorite trends for bridal gowns are for this upcoming season and they are absolutely swoonworthy.

Some of the best trends in bridal gowns today are ones that completely steer brides away from old traditions. Personally, I find these trends to be very refreshing because it allows couples to throw weddings the way they want and to have something that’s completely unique and their own as opposed to a very long time ago when all weddings kind of looked the same.

Color

There are still many many people that wear white on their wedding day, but some brides are daring to be a little bit different and choosing gowns that are neutral, off-white, and champagne colored as well as any hue in the color family. Some even opt for bright and bold prints that will still let everyone know that they are the bride and that their wedding day is still clearly their day.

Lace

What I love about lace is that it is probably the most romantic piece of fabric to ever exist. It defines romance and it’s one of the reasons why brides keep choosing it as their number one. In recent years, lace has played a huge role in weddings. First it was incorporated into accessories like the shoes or the veil, then slowly working its way into decor, and now the dress. Some brides love lace so much that they’ll revolve their entire theme around it.

Going Short

As time progresses, the need to have weddings be a much more formal event is lessening and couples are going a bit more casual which means brides are shortening the hems of their dresses to opt for a style that is more comfortable and longer lasting throughout the entire night.

Unstructured

I don’t know how many times I’ve had to watch episodes of “Say Yes to the Dress” where brides continued to pick large, extravagant, and puffy wedding gowns. As someone who is 5’1 and very petite, wearing a dress like this is completely out of the question. However, I do realize that some brides dream of wearing the “princess” gown, but these days other brides could care less. Instead of being the princess, they’d rather wear a dress that is more form-fitting to their body and has a lot less structure and fabric. These gowns – though considered non-traditional by many – are actually very classy and elegant.
