“Your Gap Look”

Top – shop in Taipei / Denim Jacket – Gap / Pants – Alternative Apparel / Scarf + Bag – Madewell / Heels – Oak + Fort

If there’s something that I could work on with regards to getting ready in the morning, it would be accessorizing. This look was caught on a good day, but in general, I’m usually without any additional accessories or jewelry. The combination of red, white, and blue is a classic look, but my concern is that it sometimes gets branded 4th of July too quickly. Maybe this felt more subtle because there are a few other colors mixed in. Perhaps it’s because this was an outfit I wore to work and not to a summer BBQ.

Lately, I’ve noticed that I tread the line between comfy cozy and professional a bit closely. I received some anonymous feedback that sometimes the addition of heels to my outfits doesn’t work because the overall look is too casual. *shrugs* You can elevate nearly any look with heels. Also your own discomfort with the look doesn’t necessarily mean that I’m doing it incorrectly.

Joggers For Everyday Wear

Joggers – Alternative Apparel / Lace tee – Urban Outfitters / Cardigan – Oak + Fort / Heels – Vince Camuto

I’m not someone that needs to own a million pairs of sweat pants. In fact, I am happy just owning one and wearing them forever, but I had a natural curiosity recently to embrace the jogger look. Not only can you wear them at home and still be stylish, you can actually wear them out and still be functional. I had been inspired by quite a few looks that I had seen on Instagram and Pinterest lately so I decided to give it a shot. Alternative Apparel was a solid choice because I already own and know that I like their sweat pants.

However, anyone that knows me knows that this look isn’t my aesthetic for work. If it were up to me, I’d be wearing dresses and heels every day, but with variation. I was worried that the joggers, would give off the impression of a look that was too casual. So how did I actually feel by the end of the day? I was cozy all day, but it was a huge change from my normal wear. I didn’t feel like myself! When I wore the joggers, it was the day after I bought them so they were still fitted and structured. If I were to wear the joggers next week to work, they wouldn’t have that same fit as the first day. In photographs, this look isn’t that bad actually, but I do think that there are many other people that can pull this look better than I can.

Weekend Breeze

Top – Aritzia / Pants – Alternative Apparel / Heels – Vince Camuto / Sunglasses – Marc Jacobs

If I’m going to spend an entire weekend out and about, I want to be in my most comfortable outfit. When Winny comes to town, we’re having two meals for every normal person’s one meal and finding new spots to venture off to. On this particular trip, we happened to be having a bowl of udon in Japantown and then came across this structure near our parked car. Despite it being a clear day with a blue sky, it was pretty breezy! Don’t mind the hair all over my face. Also, even though I like these photos, I don’t think I made the best decision in terms of picking a flattering outfit. Since the pants are already loose in itself, it probably would have been better to choose a more structured top instead of an equally loose top that I tried to make structured with a tuck.

What person doesn’t love to start out the year with a brand new spankin’ wardrobe?! Not only was “dressing better” one of my resolutions this year, it was also just dressing smarter. I wanted to really invest in long-lasting pieces that I knew I could wear over and over again and with other pieces that I already love. That means not succumbing to trends that are going to go away in a season and making sure that when I buy a piece I really love it. Over the holidays, I went on a little splurge at one of my favorite stores – Aritzia. I already own so much from them, but for the past couple of weeks they have been having a massive sale and naturally we had to take advantage of it. In fact, I’ve already been wearing a new piece from them every day this week and I’m bummed that I didn’t get to document it – but my new clothes aren’t going anywhere so they’ll be another opportunity for this.

I kicked off this past Monday with my new Babaton Dexter Pant. I knew that this was going to be something that I was hunting for in the new year so when I went to Aritzia I picked out a couple of black pants in similar styles. This one was actually picked out for me by a woman working at the store and granted it was the most expensive pair…but it was by far, the best pair. I love the way that I feel in these. Completely comfortable and ready to do anything. The elastic waist band was exactly what I was looking for because I didn’t want to struggle with a drawstring (too casual) and buttons and a clasp (too complicated.) When I wear these pants, I can just put them on and go. I paired these with a black sleeveless Madewell blouse and my Vince Camuto heels. It was fancy, but not too fancy. We satisfied the “I, at least, look put together on a Monday” look.
