The Return of Space Girl

WHOA! Space Girl is back y’all! I know I promised to bring back this installment for winter quarter after posting my last one in December, but truth: winter quarter is difficult. With 90% of the days being gray and the fact that my photographer Veronica and I had opposite schedules, Space Girl just wasn’t possible. I am, however, excited to announce that we will be bringing it back slowly this spring quarter and incorporating it more into our weekly routines.

This shoot was shot by my dear friend Bree on a whim! Now, you’re probably scratching your heads wondering why this outfit is featured because a) it’s the most casual uniform that anyone could ever wear and b) because I don’t normally wear these things, but that’s what makes it so perfect. Believe it or not, I actually like casual wear. I grew up being a jeans and a t-shirt kind of girl. I love the basics and being able to dress them up too.

There are plenty of style bloggers out there who love to wear items only once or enjoy wearing outrageous outfits around town that don’t make much sense, but that’s not really me. With this Space Girl post, I wanted to showcase to all of you a more relaxed style out of my closet. Now that we’ve got the “casual” out of the way though and the weather is picking up, you will be seeing some more of my favorite pieces featured!

Aww Hell No

American Apparel is trying to make the rice paddy hat happen. It’s not going to happen. (So we hope) Well, this certainly looks like a huge offensive fail. Also why are they trying to sugar coat it by calling it a “Conical Asian Hat?” YAAACK the retailer just makes me feel super uncomfortable sometimes.

American Apparel doesn’t make us want to cover our eyes for once

My favorite type of kids are the ones that:

a) dress well

b) can dance

Mine are going to be both. That’s right, I’m raising hipster children! I can only hope that I find a husband someday that will share the same values and dreams as I do for my children. Terry Richardson?! I kid I kid!

In this new advertisement by American Apparel, Dov Charney warms our hearts with two renowned break dancers – Jalen Testerman (10) and Angelo Baligad (9) The video was directed by photographer Tom Kelly.

I think it’s safe to say that this is the most comfortable I have ever felt towards the retailer. This is one ad that I don’t think should be censored from them.

Well played, Dov.

Slowing down your computers…one image at a time. I was planning on saving this post until next year, but it’s been 3 months since the last collection! I didn’t think it would be fair. Also, I’m pretty sure that these pictures sum up my last fall quarter perfectly. Enjoy!

Dov Charney For American Apparel

A new American Apparel advertisement was just released featuring CEO and founder of the brand, Dov Charney. Instead of having scantily clad models crawling all over him, he has creative directors Iris and Marsha sitting beside him. What is this ad saying to us?

  • Dov Charney works from the bedroom.
  • Dov Charney lets his co-workers hop into bed with him.
  • His work is so easy he can stay in bed all day.
  • Pajama pants are replacing the hipster look.

What exactly am I supposed to think? Even the caption says, “In Bed With The Boss.”

American Apparel and Greek Life – one and the same

Back in January, I wrote a post about the grooming standards for one of Cornell’s sororities Pi Phi chapter here, which was downright ridiculous. It seems as if American Apparel has decided to jump on this sinking ship as well.

It’s been a rough year for American Apparel. Just last week, word had gotten out that their hiring and firing process depended on the photos submitted for decision. Naturally, they sent out a statement, but it’s kind of too late for that. Today, a series of emails were leaked that were sent to employees about grooming standards.

Um okay. If that makes you feel uncomfortable, it should. It’s completely weird. But, get ready for this!
