A Collection Part 23

So it has been three months since my last “A Collection” post…These are my favorite posts and while they take forever to make, I honestly believe that the more time that goes by, the better these posts turn out to be. I made a promise to Veronica that I would have finished it three weeks ago and here it is. Better late than never.

This collection was created with the theme of being selfless. I never make up these themes beforehand. It is only when I can look through it as a whole that I begin to notice these patterns that arise out of the photographs. I am talking about the Japan Relief and TOMS’ One Day Without Shoes. Sometimes, giving back feels so much larger than us that we are overwhelmed by it, but there are much smaller ways to contribute. You can give back to the people you already know in even the simplest ways.

Yunak Evleri Cave Hotel, Turkey

Someday, I hope that I can travel to all of the places that I have ever written about including this incredibly breathtaking hotel in Turkey that was built using the foundation of the caves. How they managed to turn it into a full-time hotel is beyond me.

Pharrell’s Humble Abode

The Selby added a new celebrity’s home to the collection today and has managed to photograph Pharrell Williams’ beautiful home full of ridiculous, but truly one-of-a-kind art pieces and 20ft paintings of Stewie and Brian from Family Guy. Take a peek into Pharell’s Miami bachelor pad here.

A Collection Part 21

Slowing down your computers…one image at a time. I was planning on saving this post until next year, but it’s been 3 months since the last collection! I didn’t think it would be fair. Also, I’m pretty sure that these pictures sum up my last fall quarter perfectly. Enjoy!

SIFF Moves In

Architecture firm, Owen Richards Architects is building a new home for the Seattle International Film Festival office, which will be located right next to the all-ages music venue The Vera Project. The project will cost an estimated $2 million, but look how beautiful this is! I cannot wait to see this completed.

Smith Tower Penthouse

Up until 1962, the Smith Tower was the tallest building in the city of Seattle. The title was then handed over to the Space Needle. The Smith Tower is a beautiful and historical landmark in our city. Inside you will find 38 floors, a marvelous Chinese Room on the 35th floor of the tower and an observation deck to witness the beautiful views of the cityscape.

Did you know that the tower also has a penthouse apartment on the 37th and 38th floor? This week, the New York Times published an article about how the tip top of the tower was magically transformed into a rather lovely apartment for Petra Franklin Lahaie and her family.

Kengo Kuma’s Ceramic Cloud

To celebrate their 50th anniversary, Italian stoneware manufacturers Casalgrande Padana hired Japanese architect Kengo Kuma to design them a beautiful and enormous ceramic cloud. For the piece, Kuma used the company’s actual porcelain stoneware.  I don’t even want to begin to think about how long this might have took and how much was used. Just kidding…I really do.

One Studio 24 Rooms

Architect Gary Chang has lived in his apartment in Hong Kong all his life and even grew up there with his family. In Hong Kong, each family is crammed into such a tiny space. His apartment is 330 sq feet. Instead of finding a new place to live, he transformed his apartment using sliding panels connected to his ceiling to create 24 different rooms. To see how he achieves this, watch the video above.

If you thought your place was small, you now have no room to complain.

D’Espresso

This Manhattan library, just one away from the New York Public Library, looks exactly like a sideways library! The design was created by designer Anurang Nema and his team over at Nemaworkshop. I don’t know about you, but I’ve been staring at this photo for some time now and I have definitely cocked my head to the side to make sense of it all. Walking on that floor is like you are walking on many many books! It is a beautiful sight nonetheless. Take me here please.

Bookshelf Porn

Having the new library at my school has made me incredibly excited to study there. No – Seattle University did not ask me to say that, nor did they give me anything for that statement, but I wouldn’t mind if they did – just sayin’… Everyone that has been there will agree with me that it is freakin’ beautiful! The original staircase is even more gorgeous than it was before. There is a huge selection of tea at our new cafe! Apparently there’s a theater w/ 16 seats that I have yet to check out and a gazillion reading rooms. [That last part was an overstatement.] It’s all very exciting. I’ve only been to two awesome libraries in my life and that would be my school’s and the one in downtown Seattle. I hope to someday visit the best libraries that are beautifully and architecturally designed around the world. For now, there is Bookshelf Porn – a place to admire libraries and books.

Because where you work should look Awesome

I’m not anywhere close to getting into the working world, but that doesn’t mean I haven’t thought about it. I always imagined myself working in the most beautiful office – floor to ceiling windows – at the top of a skyscraper with a very nice rooftop deck overlooking the city. A girl can dream right? Or not dream…we will see.

Anyways, here are the ten most eye-catching offices located around the world via Flavorwire. You won’t find any average cubicles here.
