Inspirational Posters For Your Newly Inspired Self

We are more than halfway through January, but it’s still the first month of the year. Hopefully your resolutions are still intact. If you’re starting to sluff a little bit, I am here to tell you that you CAN do it. Whatever it is that you think you can’t do – you actually can. I am a huge fan of inspirational posters. In fact, I am a fan of inspiration words, pictures, and people too. A little over a week ago, I decided to make an inspirational wall at my desk because this was the place where I felt most creative. It’s also the place where I get most distracted from my work, but this wall that I am now forced to look at it brings me right back to where I need to be.

Throughout my elementary, middle school, and high school career, I was forced to look at these uninspired posters in my classrooms of random sayings and animals. Animals are great, but why look at those when posters these days have really stepped up their game.

The “To Resolve Project” has a collection of posters up on their website, but will be collaborating with my favorite Society 6′ers soon enough!

Chris Colfer is a Children’s Author

As if he wasn’t talented enough gracing us with his voice on the hit television series Glee, Chris Colfer can now add children’s book author to his resume. On July 17th, The Land of Stories, will be released including illustrations by Brandon Dorman.

Described as a “modern-day fairy tale,” the book will focus on twins Alex and Conner, who leave the real world behind and find themselves in a land where they come face-to-face with the fairy-tale characters — witches, goblins, trolls — they’ve always read about. Colfer says the book’s illustrator “made every detail come to life.

This is beyond precious. I can’t wait to start my own collection of children’s books someday including some of my very favorites from when I was a child. Growing up kind of makes you miss it.

Poster Cabaret

At the end of the summer, after a month of debating, I finally selected three prints to purchase from Society 6. I was able to find exactly the prints I wanted – one that was a photograph, a graphic print, and one with a quote. The one print that I was unable to find successfully was one for a band or musician that I loved. I wasn’t looking for a specific one exactly, but I wanted a design that was visually pleasing for a band I actually listened to. I suppose i was looking in the wrong place. A Round Up Post Inspired By My Friends

Every so often, I’ll get asked from someone who reads my blog the question of how I decide what goes on Yow Yow. Well, that’s a very interesting question that comes with a full circle answer. I read the news everyday from a number of sources across various topics. Generally, I like to stick to things that I’m genuinely interested in, but other times, I’ll write posts based on what I think my own friends would like to read. Before starting Yow Yow, I used to run into this disconnect with some of my friends in a group setting when I would always say to them, “Oh! Did you hear about…?” (probably something related to what I write on the blog now) and they either didn’t care for it or had never heard about it.

Yow Yow was not only an expressive outlet for me and a past time, but it was something created for my friends that was relevant to my generation. It was something that they could read or relate to while they were in class, being distracted from homework, or reading on their own time.

With that, I happened to stumble upon three pieces this morning each reminding me of three of my friends.

My dear friend Megan, who you will seeing a guest post from next week, used to make these beautiful handmade journals for herself and for her friends as presents. This journal, pictured above, was constructed out of vintage materials by Odelae. This one was made out of leather, but she also seems to have another journal bound between oyster shells! [Source]

During our recent snowy Sunday, Veronica invited me to trek through the snow to share a cup of cocoa with her. I never made it, but I did come across this simple, but adorable way of making hot cocoa and gifting it to friends and family. How chic, right? It’s so modern, but makes perfect sense. Lastly, my friend Bree loves cats. Every time I see cute cat-like things, I am instantly reminded of her. She doesn’t have one right now, but I think she would love these “cats as human hipsters” pillows. Or…maybe she’ll be creeped out by them. Either way, they’re too stinkin’ cute. “I Haven’t Been To An Airport In Awhile…”

I have got a very strange love/hate relationship with airports. Well, how many times have I started a blog post with that sentence? Plenty probably. Frankly, I enjoy being in airports because of all the people. Have you ever stopped to think about how many people are traveling at the same time as you are? Some will be on your flight, but chances are you’re only going to recognize the faces of the six people that are sitting near you. Many of those people are traveling to a couple states over, across the country, to another continent. They could be they for a few days, a few weeks, or years. The idea of that many people moving about within one place is incredible to me.

The only thing I don’t like about airports is that knot in my stomach I get when a flight first takes off and the huge breath I take in and hold right before we land. Also, people getting motion sickness around me isn’t ideal.

My yearning to be in an airport was sparked by this post I found on Colossal on this set of screen prints by Nomo Designs of airport runways. Designer and architect Jerome Daksiewicz has created screen prints for some of the more popular airports, but has plans to expand the collection to include five more cities.
