The Closet: December 2020

[The Kooples Medium Black Emily Bag Croco Print] – $450

I always think that this post isn’t necessary in the month of December because we already do the holiday gift guide, holiday party dress guide and New Year’s Eve outfit guide. Sometimes, the things we want just don’t fall into those three categories though. And because of that, here we are showing you the things you still might want for your closet. On a typical year, we would be looking forward to Boxing Day sales – traditionally the day after Christmas. It’s the time where I splurge on winter coats that I’ve been eyeing all season and the last of the sweaters before I head into spring. Though it’s not like us, we completely avoided the sales and the posts promoting them this year. Since I’ve been spending so much time at home, I decided to invest in items that would make living and working at home more comfortable for the foreseeable future. That being said, here are some things I’m sad to pass on.

[Zara Plaid Blazer] – $89.90 – $49.99

The Closet: October 2020

[TheAnnieFoxShop Vegan Faux Leather Mask] – $16.90

And just like that, our transition into fall things is here! It’s chilly these days. My space heater has become my best friend and no matter how many layers I wear, it never quite feels enough. More than ever, since we’re spending more time at home, I’m watching my wardrobe become increasingly cozy. The number of lounge pieces I’ve purchased in this span of time may even be surpassing the rest of my work wardrobe.

What I’m leaning a lot from this experience too is that cozy doesn’t mean lazy. It doesn’t mean you’re not trying. In fact, you can still dress up these pieces and they can be equally chic.

[Almina Concept Polo Wool Sweater] – $128

The Closet: June 2020

[H&M Denim Jacket] – $30

We’ve transitioned to “there is no point in shopping” to “we’re in this for the long haul!” While I’ve never considered myself an online shopper… I’m not lying, I use Amazon once a year, there is a joy that is associated with receiving packages. And that goes for any type of package, not even just the shopping you’re doing for yourself. In times like these, where it seems like things will never get better, we have to treat ourselves. My justification is that I still need clothes to wear to work for my video calls. Also, because of our social media presence, it helps to have outfits that you can be excited by. I promise to be responsible, but I am also going to be making a shopping purchase as soon as we hit “post” on this.

[H&M Textured-Weave Maxi Dress] – $60

What To Wear: Ringing In A New Decade

[Zara Sequined Velvet Dress] – $89.90

Left and right, friends of mine are messaging regarding our New Year’s Eve plans. What I’m coming to find is that as we get older, there is less and less excitement revolving around this holiday. One day, I really hope one of my friends decides to get married on this day because I think that’s ultimately the best way to celebrate this evening. As of right now the number one plan in the running is a lovely dinner with my girlfriends and then after that, a quiet night in. We are graduating to grandma status over here.

For those of you who still have the energy to get out there on New Year’s Eve, I wish you the best and that you look great doing it!

The Closet: November 2017

Solo Six – Jody Cardigan – Charcoal – $295

This month, we are ALL about the cozy cozy. I’ve always been the kind of girl that loved being dressed up at all times. I didn’t understand the concept of sweats or the appeal to wearing pajamas to places even on elementary spirit days. No thanks, I’ll be putting on a dress and y’all can wear your fuzzy slippers. If I got close to anything considered loungewear, it would be leggings only. For the most part, this has carried over into my adult life, but I will admit that several times a week, I come home and immediately change out of my “work” clothes and into something a little less constricting. As much as I love my structured denim, there’s something about them that feels unnatural pairing them with my wool socks underneath my softest blanket. Also now that I’m living up in San Francisco, more than ever, I’m embracing layering and learning how to get really creative with my pairings.

Weekday Drapey Knit Coat$127 – $88.50

Guys, Would You Wear It?

Nobody knows more than me that I love a good choker trend. We’ve been obsessing over them since the summer and we’re not slowing down any time soon. However, ASOS decided to put the trend to a serious test this week by releasing a choker for guys. So male readers of Yow Yow! … I have to know, would you wear it? Is this an accessory that you can get behind? How would you style it?

You can check out the full collection here . And before you scratch your head and say, “Katie, but aren’t these women’s chokers? How can you distinguish them?” Well the link I just included shows that the search results have indeed been filtered down to just “men.” Yep. So this is a real thing that’s happening. Then after I read this news, I came across this:

This is The Today Show’s Matt Lauer also wearing a choker. Except, we’re a little put off that he’s displaying it Superman style. Why not wear an outfit that will already allow it to stand out on its own instead of being hidden? Turns out he was wearing this because of the recent news about ASOS so let’s not expect him to be a regular.

Whatever the case, I think I’m okay with this trend. If a guy would like to wear a choker, they should just go ahead. I’m still going to wear mine. Maybe we can match. Let’s just end this post on a good note though:

The Closet: December 2016

Robin Slingback Heel – $59

We are accessory heavy in this edition of The Closet! In 2016, we discovered a newfound love for chokers and caps and while some fashion blogs have cited these trends as “already over,” I’m going to keep on trucking along with them. That is… at least until the chokers get too loose and the caps can no longer sufficiently cover my bad hair days. I was going to let this post marinate for a couple of days longer so that we could include more goods, but I think this is a good place to stop. One reason is because I like the trend I’m seeing in the items listed here – a throwback to something kind of retro and classic. Everything is so delicate, pretty, a little pink and a little sparkly that these just make the perfect set as is.

The Closet: January 2016

Protective Nourishment Blueberry Scrub Mask – 2 Minute Treatment – $55

In the month of January, we were all about “treating ourselves” so if you peruse this post, you may notice a lot more pampering than usual and we don’t really mind it! Why shouldn’t we deserve all of these things. Also while writing this, I’m realizing that these would make some pretty great Valentine’s Day gifts as well! *wink wink
