This weekend, Seattle’s legendary Barsuk Records celebrated their 15th anniversary and I am so sad that I had to miss it! When I was 16 years old and starting my first internship in the local music scene as a booking intern, my boss had first informed me of Barsuk. Every year after that until I got to college, I tried relentlessly to get an internship with the record company. I wanted so badly to work alongside with the people I grew up admiring – the ones that brought Death Cab For Cutie to their side and turned them into the band that they are today. I never did get that internship, but it was Barsuk’s mission and drive that stirred something up within me and had me continuing on with music through college.
Today is the last night of the celebration. For the past 3 days, Barsuk has been hosting shows at different venues all over the city featuring notable bands under Barsuk’s name including Phantogram, Ra Ra Riot, Rocky Votolato, Nada Surf and more. With tonight being the last, everyone is wondering whether or not Death Cab will show up for a surprise performance. Every show under the celebration has completely sold out, which only proves to you how strongly Seattle’s locals are behind the music scene and supporting Barsuk.
Barsuk – thank you for everything you’ve done for me. You’ve given me something to look forward to and now I get to witness your 15-year success. Here’s to another 15 years!
