Watermelon Colored Walls

screen-shot-2016-12-27-at-3-20-13-pm

Shorts – Forever21 / Top – Brandy Melville / Hat – Nordstrom / Birkenstocks

We will probably never ever wear this outfit again. Every now and then I’ll pull something out of my closet to create an experimental outfit or to try and wear a piece that we can photograph with. That piece happened to be these shorts. They’re just made out of cloth really and are a black base with an off-white floral pattern over it. I wanted so badly to make these work, but I remember feeling pretty uncomfortable in these on my shopping trip. There’s nothing wrong with them! I’ve just sort of outgrown this look. In a previous time, I would’ve rocked these without any problem. In 2016, I’m just an awkward turtle.

A Girl’s First Romper

Romper – Urban Outfitters / Belt – Mom’s / Shoes – Birkenstocks

For years, we avoided buying a romper. Why would I want to wear a piece that makes me feel even more childlike?! Well, an opportunity came for me earlier this year in which I was attending my first bachelorette party and the theme for one of the nights called for something in floral. Everyone knows that I’ve got this thing about being photographed in an “event” piece more than once so of course we went out on the hunt for something new and floral. I liked this romper from the minute I stepped into it. When photographed from the front, it kind of looks like a dress. Plus, the material is soft and comfortable to wear for any spring/summer day or night. The cut in the front is a little bit unique though and I still haven’t decided if I’m into it or not, but luckily, it’s not something I have to pull out that often. Also, when wearing this romper, it’s got a deep cut in the front so I always have to make sure to use a safety pin because we’re in our mid-20’s and we’re just a little bit too old to still be having wardrobe malfunctions. To give this romper more shape, I used a very old belt that I “borrowed” from my mom several years ago to hold it all together. Also contrary to what I believed, this romper makes me look sort of the opposite of child, right? My legs do NOT look like this IRL. Now rompers are all the rage and you can easily find them at places like fillyflair.com, they’re available everywhere!

Proud Owner: Triangl Bikini

screen-shot-2016-11-04-at-9-56-08-pm

It’s no secret that we love an occasional shopping trip, but swimsuit purchases? Those don’t happen very often. Why? Because you never really needed to in Seattle and in California? Well, I’m perfectly fine with the ones I brought with me from Seattle. However, this was a special occasion. I was headed to Palm Springs for the first time for Mandi’s bachelorette and I thought that I might spoil myself a little bit. Spoil doesn’t mean splurge though!

See, I’ve always been on the fence about Triangl bikinis. Everyone has them. Everyone makes knockoffs of them. Is it just one of those fads that’s going to go out of style? I was going through my Instagram feed before the trip when I saw one from their collection that stopped me dead in my tracks. It was super chic and BLACK! It wasn’t in any funky color pairing that I thought I would get tired of. So we stepped outside of our comfort zone not once, but twice because I had to purchase this online. We rarely ever buy things online, but also when you’re buying a swimsuit, you’d rather try it on in person.

So when the package arrived, I was elated to find that everything was fitting me perfectly in all the right places. How was that even possible?! And because it’s in black, it’s super slimming. The material might throw you off though because it’s a rubberized feel, but it actually is much cooler than it sounds! I give this swimsuit 9/10! I probably won’t need another one for awhile nor will I need to purchase another Triangl one, but this one can be my go-to for the next couple of years.

In case you’re wondering, here it is for purchase.

Larchmont

Tank top – Topshop / Shorts – Aritzia / Purse – Vince Camuto / Birkenstocks

I have never made a smug face like that before, but it’s funny to see it brought out of me in LA. Gelesia took me over to Larchmont Village during my September visit and boy, was it a sweltering day. I know it looks like we’re keepin’ it real cool here, but that’s the face of a girl who is completely overheated. It could’ve been worst, honestly, luckily for us this tank top was pretty breezy and lightweight and these shorts were loose and airy. We survived.

Lopsided

Dress – Brandy Melville / Birkenstocks

I really miss those days when it was super easy to get dressed for work and all I had to do was throw on a t-shirt dress, my comfiest sandals and head straight out the door. Only four more months until spring time! For now, it’s layers on layers on layers. I thought this Blue Bottle carton would make a fun prop for our shoot, but truth – I don’t actually like drinking Blue Bottle from the carton. I definitely prefer getting it fresh, but for working out of the city this is the best we can do! I think these cartons are a little too strong for my taste. Also, I couldn’t find the straws in our office so we had to dip into the Starbucks below to snag one. 🙁 Sorry!

Taylor Swift Eve

Crop top – Aritzia / Skirt – H&M / Birkenstocks

We’re so behind on our posts that this outfit dates all the way back to August! Nearly a year before Taylor Swift’s actual “1989” show in Santa Clara, my coworkers bought about 20 tickets so they could all go together. They kept asking me if I had wanted to go, but I kept turning down the opportunity because I didn’t think I was a big enough fan to be deserving enough to go. Also, I hadn’t listened to her “1989” album at all except for the songs that had been released on mainstream radio (big mistake on my part.) As we got closer and closer to the actual concert date, I started to experience FOMO. Luckily, a couple tickets opened up and I raised my hand right away! I was so excited that I decided to wear a crop top with my outfit the next day in true Taylor fashion. I hope I made her proud!

The Happiest Shoot Ever

Processed with VSCOcam with kk2 preset

Tank top – BP Nordstrom / Shorts – Aritzia / Belt + Sweater – Madewell / Birkenstocks

There are some days where we feel completely off when it comes to doing these mini photo shoots. Then there are days like this where I’m at my most comfortable and my photographer and co-worker Sandy is completely nailing it. This was the first time I’d ever worn this outfit to work and now actually looking back on it, it looks very disco to me. I remember getting dressed this morning and thinking I needed to trade in my Birkenstocks for a pair of roller skates. I remember it also being a scorching hot day as well, but I usually bring a cardigan of some sort since the air conditioning in the office can be unforgiving. We can’t ever win with the right temperature in California. The next few pictures in these series don’t vary much for the top one, but we still thought it would be fun to include.

Back in Seattle…

Striped dress – Aritzia / Birkenstocks / Sunglasses – Marc by Marc Jacobs

I had the best time returning home and visiting Seattle last month. These crosswalks in Capitol Hill were freshly painted that morning and I knew I couldn’t leave without getting a picture with them. We did our best! These crosswalks are typically so busy in the Pike/Pine corridor so it’s tough to get a photo without another stranger in them. These were mainly done just in time for Pride, but I had heard that they were going to be sticking around for much longer. As they should! They totally bring a little something to the neighborhood, plus they are super fun. I really love dresses like this for the summer where you can just pull it on over your head and have it be a no-fuss type of an outfit that is ready to go.

Fake Outdoors

Tank top – Topshop from Nordstrom / Flannel – Urban Outfitters / Black jeggings – Uniqlo / Birkenstocks

We actually took this picture about a week and a half ago and because I was so excited about my trip to Seattle. I wanted a photo that would represent my true Northwest style as much as I could and it’s kind of nice to be wearing the flannel and Birks because I don’t feel like this is a combo I wear a lot these days. I’m not entirely happy with this photo only because it’s blurry and that to me, is a little unacceptable, but on Instagram you can’t even tell the difference! This is the most outdoors we could get, but really, we’re right next to my building and outside of a Starbucks. Caught!
