The Males That Blog

I cannot even begin to tell you how refreshing it is to discover a blog written by a male or better yet – a group of males! These days, blogs are overrun by women writing about fashion, style, home decor, etc. – don’t get me wrong – those are some of my favorite types of blogs, but reading a blog written from a guy’s perspective is sometimes so much better. It’s nice to see guys that care about the same things I care about, but in a masculine context. Refinery 29 wrote a post today about some of their favorite guy bloggers in the Chicago area, but I decided to extend this post to include some of my personal favorites from all over. Enjoy everyone! And don’t worry – even though it is male-focused, there is something for the ladies too. This is also kind of a follow-up post to the one I did back in January 2010.

[Cool Material]

Believe it or not, out of the 27 blogs I read on a daily basis, Cool Material is the only male-focused blog in that lineup. Highlighting new products in fashion, technology and design, Cool Material brings forth the items that every guy will want on their wishlist. These writers are the coolest of the bunch and are nothing, but effortless in their style.

[Mr. Kim Says]

Mr. Kim Says is kind of a hodge-podge blog in that I don’t exactly know what the focus is, but I like it regardless. It is very similar to a Tumblr (if it’s not already a Tumblr,) but it makes me laugh at the end of the day so I guess that’s all that matters.

[Metrodad]

If you’ve been following Yow Yow! for some time now, then you know that I’ve been a huge fan of MetroDad for over a year now. The identity behind Metrodad is still unknown, but that’s not the most important factor. Whoever he is, I find him to be intelligent, humorous, and a lovable father to his “Peanut.” It’s like the guy speaks my language, but that’s just because he’s relatable and I’m sure I’m not the only one that feels that way. He’s got a gazillion fans and his posts seem to always strike a chord with me. I once found myself wimpering away during a reading of one. Shameless.

[Lottie and Doof]

There is nothing more attractive than a man that cooks. I mean, how many times do I have to say it?

[Los Angelist]

Sophisticated and sleek, Los Angelist is catered for male readers that are confident, savvy, and in the know. The site is so simple and there is not much on the blog that is geared towards me, but yet I still find myself hooked on the blog regularly.

[Josh Spear]

So I have to admit that I’ve got a little bit of an obsession with this blog. Having read it for a couple years now, Josh Spear still remains to be one of the most up-to-date and relevant blogs in my roll focusing on culture, technology, music, gadget, designs, travel and more.

[Man Up Chicago]

Man Up Chicago is a blog I just discovered via Refinery 29 and even though I know nothing about Chicago, lucky for me, this blog is not just city-focused. I actually found myself pretty interested in some of the posts especially all of their recent Lollapalooza coverage! By the way, did anyone catch the live stream today? I was able to watch Delta Spirit, Foster the People, White Lies, and Two Door Cinema Club all while I was at work. Awesome. Technology!

Late Night Posts

I just started reading this blog recently called “The Hairpin” and after a week of following it, I’m still unable to figure out what it is actually all about. Sometimes I see a little bit of The Frisky in it, a smidgen of Flavorwire and a chunk of Buzzfeed. Tonight, I came across a very interesting post that brings me back to the college years that I am still living so I thought it would be a nice treat to share it with you all. However, it’s definitely not something that should be read by the little ones…hopefully my readers aren’t that young anyways.

Just to be funny, I thought I would do this post later in the evening even though come morning – that post will probably still be there so nothing changes.

Regardless – read these two line text conservations along with an analysis of how college girls over think the most straightforward responses. These are all hypothetical situations, but I’m almost convinced that this has happened to people I know. It happens to the best of us.

Check it out here.

Olivia Palermo to Launch Blog

Two Olivia Palermo posts in one day? I can’t help it if this HBIC is everywhere! Olivia Palermo is one of my favorite style icons and she just happens to be following the footsteps of Miss Lauren Conrad and Lo Bosworth by creating her own blog. Will it be beauty focused like Lauren’s or be a mixture of a little of everything like Lo’s? Maybe it will just be centered around fashion since her style is what she is known for. Regardless of what the focus will be, I am pretty excited about!

Let’s hope it’s good enough to find a spot on my blogroll.

Mystery Flower Seeds

It’s no secret that Sam Shipley and Jeff Halmos are two of my favorite designers. I suppose I’ve taken a liking to them ever since I met them last year at Barney’s. Aside from being designers, the duo also like to sell quirky knick-knacks and draw characters at their blawg Numerous Drawings. I’ve mentioned Numerous Drawings in the past so today I kind of want to focus on their shop Things! where they have recently started selling these Mystery Flower Seeds. I’m not quite sure which flowers they will produce, but I guess that’s the fun part right? Buy them for yourself or buy them for a friend because they are only $3.99.

Smitten Kitchen

At the end of the school year, every single one of my professors will be receiving a sincere letter with my apologies to them because I have already checked out three weeks early for the summer. How will I possibly survive senior year at this rate? Anyways, like all of you – I’m sure, I’m just itching for the start of summer. Does anyone have any big plans?

I’ll be busy here and there makin’ that scrill, but also taking on a project that I am very Very VERY excited about it!

All work stuff aside, I hope to make it out to a few concerts, happy hours, and events in the Seattle area including:

  • Capitol Hill Block Party
  • Fremont Fair and Solstice
  • Concerts at the Mural
  • Bite of Seattle
  • Pride Fest
  • Bumbershoot

etc. etc.

Another thing that I am also looking forward to this summer is redecorating my living space and being able to utilize all of the cook books that I have been given! I am so excited to try out some new recipes that I have been eying for awhile and now is the chance to do it [FINALLY.] On that note, I discovered a blog filled with delicious recipes that I think I will be visiting more frequently called Smitten Kitchen! Feel free to check it out 🙂 it’s adorable.
