The Performance That Mattered at the VS Fashion Show

[youtube=http://youtu.be/ye2PFVt4mMc]

Ariana Grande of course. You know you’re doing something right when you’re performing a medley of your four hits at an event. Also I wasn’t able to include a video of Taylor Swift’s performance, but I loved seeing her perform “Style.” This was my first time ever hearing this song and it’s totally just a girl anthem that I can see myself belting out if I ever heard it on the radio. Also how qt was her moment with Karlie walking down the runway? Just date already.

Performance of the Day

With the hustle and bustle of Thanksgiving being last week, we forgot to share this performance by Ariana Grande at the American Music Awards. I love the way she stripped down “Problem” and “Break Free.” And of course…The Weeknd.

Ariana Grande’s Performance on SNL

[youtube=http://youtu.be/cVyxCKoO7AU]

This was her first time performing “Love Me Harder” live on TV and it was nice to see The Weeknd join her for it. This is slated to be her next single released. Also The Weeknd totally outshines her on this performance. It feels like she’s really holding back and relying on the backing track for most of this song except for a few rifts.

I also loved how she started out with “Break Free” and was hoping that she would almost continue doing the whole song in this arrangement. Was it just me or did it seem like she was really tired when the song started picking up and she had to mildly dance along to it?

Ariana Grande – Break Free Music Video

[youtube=http://youtu.be/L8eRzOYhLuw]

This music video is so weird. I honestly don’t really know why singers and bands even make music videos anymore because I thought the point of having them way back when was so that it would appear on TRL.

Now, I just feel like these music videos premiere and then go to the music video graveyard.

Ariana Grande – Break Free ft. Zedd

I guess you could say we’re a little bit excited about the new Ariana Grande song.

M.I.A. Born Free

The newly released music video for M.I.A.’s Born Free has already been removed from YouTube and is officially banned. The music video to me resembled more of a short film with her single as the backing track. After hearing about this controversy yesterday, I spent last night and this morning searching for it. Was it really as bad as everyone said it was?

Yes. The cinematography was good, but the video did not sit well with me. The 9-minute movie shows armed “soldiers” executing a number of red-headed males. Not only does the video show graphic violence, there is some nudity and language.

Watching this video made me feel very uncomfortable and while I respect M.I.A. as a talented artist, that does not mean I have to approve of this. I don’t think I could watch it again. I think my emotions toward “Born Free” are heightened moreso now because of an article I read yesterday about how three high school senior girls had kidnapped a girl who had red hair after months of tormenting. After kidnapping her, they then proceeded to beat her incessantly and tried to push her over a cliff.

Not to bring you down so early in the day, but I am confused as to why this is becoming an issue again. Granted, I understand that this video was made before the incident, but maybe there could have been another direction for M.I.A. ?
