Bay Area Eats:

I’ve been on a mission to try out all of the brunch places in South Bay and as  I started to look over the list of places I’ve been and places I still need to go, I’m realizing that the list is dwindling. Pretty soon, we’re going to have to venture up to the city for brunch and I’m not quite sure if I”m desperate enough for that yet.

Yesterday, we hit up Calafia Cafe in Palo Alto within the Town & Country shopping complex. Yes, we did make a stop at Tin Pot afterwards. I chose this place because not only was it rated pretty well on Yelp, but I wanted to find something on the menu that fit the likings for all of the people I was with. Tommy prefers sweet breakfasts so something along the lines of chocolate chip pancakes or french toast. Richard usually likes something that’s Mexican-inspired or with meat, but yesterday he just got a standard breakfast. And I prefer omelettes or scrambles. I ventured out just a bit yesterday and went for the Croque Madame. As some of you have seen on the blog before, I only order the Croque Madame at Cafe Presse back in Seattle, but after having the one yesterday, I would say that they rival pretty close to each other. The only thing I wish would have been different is to have the egg over-easy like it mentioned in the menu description. It was over-medium – which is still fine, I just like to have the egg run over the entire sandwich. The sandwich was also made with french toast bread, which gave it that fluffy taste.

The full description of my Croque Madame:

Zoe’s black forest ham and Swiss on pan de mie french toast,
farm fresh sunny-side up egg, organic field greens and
honey mustard vinaigrette

I typically don’t like dressing with mustard in it, but the taste wasn’t as overpowering and the salad was just perfectly dressed.

I would definitely return back to Cafe Calafia! In fact, I think we’re going back next week to try another brunch place within the complex.
