What We Wore: Jodie’s Wedding

Dress – ASTR / Choker – Urban Outfitters / Clutch – Clarins / Heels – Vince Camuto

It just occurred to be that we haven’t even spoken about this look yet! My darling friend Jodie got married over Memorial Day Weekend this year and I was thrilled to be flying to Raleigh for the first time. I took a friend with me as a plus one and together him and I explored all over the neighborhood and had some of the best meals we’ve ever had including my favorite – BBQ! This was my first southern wedding though and I wanted to look the part even though I didn’t exactly know what that really meant. I generally have an idea of what I want to wear prior to weddings, but for this one, I hoped the look would just come to me. For my friends’ recent weddings, I’ve been wearing a lot of the same style. I am loving these long maxi dresses. They are so chic, sleek, and elegant. You almost don’t need to accessorize too much for it because it just wears itself.

One afternoon while perusing Instagram, I came across this ASTR dress. It looked beautiful on the model and I wasn’t sure if I could pull it off, but I figured I couldn’t turn it down unless I tried. I went to my nearest Nordstrom, tried it on and sort of fell in love with it. The high neckline was something different in comparison to other dresses that I had worn in the past. I paired it with my favorite choker, which I thought was a little bit risky, but still worked. I also threw my hair up into a bun. Looking back on it, I actually regretted it only because I enjoy wearing my hair down more, but I wanted to see how it would look and now I know for next time that I should stick to what I know will work. My clutch isn’t even a clutch! It is actually a beauty bag from Clarins. I normally don’t gravitate towards red ever in my wardrobe, but for some reason with this baby blue dress, I wanted something that would make this look pop! The heels are simple and black and my favorites from Vince Camuto.

I don’t know if I did the “southern wedding” entirely correct, but I felt good about my outfit. This was a learning experience with this one and I definitely took a few learnings away from it that I can carry with me onto my next two weddings in 2018!

The Smallest Things

My mom and I have this tradition of a beauty swap every time I come back home to Seattle. I bring her the products that I haven’t touched or have barely touched and she hands me over the products that she doesn’t need. We’ve got this system down! When I returned home for the holidays, she gave me these three small products and I’m always in the camp of “I’ll try anything once.” I can’t remember where this cute little soap is from, but it says Lather and its adorable. The hand lotion is from Crabtree & Evelyn and while I don’t shop there, I’m now very obsessed with this tube and keep it at my desk at work for those especially dry moments. This is also the first time that I was introduced to Molton and Brown and the day I finished this shower gel was the saddest day of my life. The scent was pink pepperpod or peppercorn (I can’t remember) but it’s one that I haven’t been able to get out of my head. I didn’t need the Clarins bag on the left since I already have a beauty bag, but I DID just use this as a clutch for a recent wedding I attended. More on that later 😉

Beauty For Breakfast Pt. 15

Whenever my Mom and I get together, we somehow always find time to exchange beauty products that we’ve come across. On my last trip home, she handed me this CLARINS Beauty Flash Balm without any direction other than “make sure you put this on after your moisturizing lotion, but before your makeup.” But wait- what exactly does it do? While getting ready this morning and going through my routine I decided to hit up Google and instead typed in “Beauty Flash Bomb” because I clearly can’t read labels very well. I’m three days into using the product and still a little confused. All I do know is that it not only moisturizes, but makes my face feel a little bit more refreshed. I don’t believe that it works exactly the same as a moisturizer though. On the plus side, it makes my face smell like peppermint and based on that fact alone, I would continue buying it.
