CMJ Music Marathon 2012

I know I said this was Wedding Mondays, but it’s turning out to be a whole lot more of Music Monday. Once again, the CMJ Music Marathon and Film Festival begins tomorrow in New York and though I will probably never make my way over there to celebrate it, I would still like to recognize some of my favorite artists and bands being featured. Those in bold are from Seattle! Hometown pride never stops here on Yow Yow.

CMJ Music Marathon and Film Festival 2011

This time, last year I was introduced to the CMJ Music Marathon and Film Festival by an agent, but unfortunately I wasn’t able to make it there because I was in school HOBviously. Once I found out how awesome it really was, I was disappointed in not finding out about it sooner. Apparently CMJ was created to connect tons of new artists and bands with agents all over the country. The entire event, which takes place in New York City spans over five days and is a great opportunity for everyone to just network and promote themselves non-stop. It’s kind of the perfect place for both musicians and agents because around this time agents are looking for new bands to sign as are management companies. Someday, maybe I’ll make it over there, but for now, I’m just going to recommend to you a list of great bands you should catch (if you’re headed that way) or just some bands that you should listen to. This year’s event begins Tuesday, October 18th – 22nd.

I Could Be Here…or I Could Be There

Tonight, I got an email from the CEO and Founder of Nue Agency asking me if I was coming out to New York next week for the 2010 CMJ Festival. If so, they’d love for me to come out to the three events that they are hosting. Unfortunately, Seattle University doesn’t allow for me to just leave school for a couple days to attend things like these.

Sometimes I wonder why these opportunities have to happen while I’m STILL in college. I was trying to work with Nue Agency over the summer on a project. The agency represents my new favorite duo Chiddy Bang, Mike Posner, Wale, Clipse, and 2AM Club. The CMJ Music Marathon is one of the largest festivals in the world that serves as a platform for new artists.

What I’m missing out on:

Join us for five nonstop days and nights of over 1200 live performances from over 30 countries in more than 75 of New York City’s greatest venues and theatres. In addition to hundreds of showcase performances, cutting-edge films and informative panels, CMJ 2010 will present over 70 panels including featured speakers, a music business law seminar, and College Day and will feature live music performances, exclusive parties, an exhibitor loft, a registrant lounge, an artist gifting suite, meet and greets, seminars, mentoring sessions, networking events, comedy showcases, Q&As, and special events.
