Currently Craving: Clam Chowder Tots

Can you believe that we’ve let two years go by without a “Currently Craving” post? Where did the time go? It could also be that in the two years, we just didn’t come across a dish that caught our eye as much as this one. We’re feeling quite nostalgic for home these days and these two items typically make up some of my favorite things at home separately. I never thought to combine the two, but clearly some genius did.

Two of my favorite fast food restaurants back in Seattle are home to my favorite tots (Taco Time) and my favorite clam chowder (Ivar’s) Since we’re not headed back for the holidays this year, this is igniting my creative juices a bit. This isn’t exactly a busy dish nor a difficult one to make. As an adult, I likely wouldn’t boast about this, but not all your meals have to be “adult like” and sophisticated right?

Currently Craving: Street Corn Lobster Roll

I have to make sure when I’m writing these posts that it is AFTER I’ve had a meal. While catching up on news last night, I came across this Street Corn Lobster Roll – hello! Two of my favorite things! I’ve got a love hate relationship with lobster rolls though and if you’re like me, then you know where I’m coming from. I never grew up eating a whole lot of lobster and didn’t have my first lobster roll until I was visiting Boston for work a couple years back. I love that you can eat it hot with butter or cold with mayo. My biggest qualm though? Why is it that when you order the lobster roll it comes with a mountain of fries that overtakes the entire meal?

No disrespect to fries, but the lobster roll always feels so small in comparison and it’s what I want more of. I love this take on a “street lobster roll” that features corn and a spicy kick with the jalapeños . Since I’m a little bit on the weaker side of spiciness, I’ll likely pick these off.

Currently Craving: Thanksgiving Stuffing Tots

I spent all afternoon down at Crissy Field today and while it was a beautiful day with an even more gorgeous sunset than I could have ever imagined, I was really looking forward to winding down this evening. I love my friends and doing things socially throughout the weekend, but I’m also the biggest homebody you’ve ever met. My nights consist of snuggling underneath my king size blanket draped over my couch, watching a movie, lighting some candles, and vegging out on comfort food. With Thanksgiving just around the corner, it’s no surprise that I’ve got a craving for all of my favorite dishes from the holiday. I came across this recipe this weekend that combines my two loves – stuffing and tots! How does this get any better? Gravy dipping sauce. You’re welcome.

I haven’t done a whole lot of cooking in a few years, but I took a glance over the recipe and it definitely seems doable. Readers, any of you up to give this a try before me?

Currently Craving:

Sundays are always for my Asian comfort food days and today we are craving Udon Noodle Soup! Just when we thought that spring was headed our way in the Bay Area, it starts to rain and get gloomy again. It’s starting to feel a lot like Seattle up in here and we don’t hate it. In fact, I spent most of the weekend watching 13 Reasons Why on Netflix. Is anyone else watching it? I’d love to hear your hot takes on it! I can’t make Udon Noodle Soup myself – well scratch that, I could make it, but I choose not to so the only times when I ever do get to have it is when I return home and luckily Moms has already promised me that it’ll be my first meal waiting for me next Friday. Shhh we’re going home for a little bit, but keeping mum about it. 🙁

I haven’t actually tried this recipe yet so please don’t shoot the messenger! I just thought I’d be really nice and if you felt like having it here’s a recipe for you that I did not vet out nor did I see any reviews on.

Currently Craving:

In the Bay Area, all my friends and I have been obsessed with Poke lately. There have been so many spots popping up around us including one that is just 5 blocks away from our workplace which in our opinion – is a little dangerous! I happened to be a little famished when I saw this Poke burger show up on the interwebs today and since I’d never seen something like this before in my life, I had to share it. Do y’all think it would taste good? Sometimes when I eat raw fish, I’d rather just enjoy it on its own and in its purest form so mixing it with a burger… I may have some hesitancies!

Currently Craving:

It’s nearing 11:00 PM which means that the almost midnight craving wave is starting to come over me and what do we want?! None other than a good ‘ol fashioned hot dog. Have any of you ever seen that film, “Now You See Me?” There’s a scene in that film where they talk about a subject who gets led into doing something because he’s been getting clues and hints about it for a duration of time. When you start to hear and see something that just keeps coming up, you naturally find yourself craving that. Well, today my dad told me he ate a hot dog. Step 1. Then I was in Capitol Hill in the Pike/Pine area where I normally pick up a hot dog after a night out like I did in college. Step 2. and Step 3 – I just came across this article on Cool Material outlining the 12 best unique hot dog toppings. If that’s not a sign, then I don’t know what is.

Currently Craving:

Today’s craving is a weird one! Since I’ve been sick (pretty much all of the holiday break!) I’ve been avoiding my daily caffeine and Starbucks entirely, which on the reg – is normally very hard for me to do. Today, I’m missing all three of my favorites and even moreso because the holidays are almost over and that means that these drinks will be leaving soon too! 🙁

Currently Craving:

The worst thing about being sick is all of the things that you can’t eat. Since I’m currently home and sick over Christmas break, my parents have got me on a strict diet that includes no dairy, no butter, no sweets of any kind, and nothing that will make me even sicker. I realize I  did this to myself so they’re really not to blame, but it’s torture! I’ve been having a very heavy craving for duck pate on toast – 25 year old me is so refined these days! – and not having it over the holidays is kind of a huge bummer. I haven’t even made it into the city yet to have all of my favorite meals. Happy holidays to sick little ‘ol me! Current status: starving.

This googly eyed sundae from Tin Pot – “Sunday Breakfast” featuring: salted butterscotch & maple ice cream, salted caramel sauce & waffle cone crunch. Maybe tomorrow on my list of to-do’s!
