Vintage Kaba Modern

I can’t believe I’ve never actually posted this before! I used to be a huge fan of Kaba Modern. Correction – I still am, but the group that appeared on America’s Best Dance Crew are all doing their own thing now so I’m still a fan of their work individually. Not too long ago, I taught myself some simple choreography by former Kaba Modern member Yuri Tag for Ariana’s “Break Free,” but soon after I was looking for another piece. This is one of my favorite Ellie Goulding remixes and the choreography done by three members of the former group is SO good. I haven’t had the time or made the time to actually learn this, but I haven’t forgotten about it. There’s even a tutorial for it too so that should make things a little bit easier?

Alyson Stoner’s Tribute To Missy Elliott

[youtube=http://youtu.be/bEOo311_yts]

When Missy Elliott took the stage at the Super Bowl, every former Missy fan was wondering where her right-hand woman was! Of course everyone was thinking of the little girl who was a phenomenal dancer. Well, Alyson Stoner is all grown up! She’s not dancing as much as she used to, but she does have a singing career and her dancing is still as good as she was when she was a child.

Missy Elliott – Work It

We could’ve just posted the Spotify track, but after yesterday’s performance we realized this was the perfect opportunity to throw it back to the music video. Let’s be real – Missy Elliott was the REAL halftime act at yesterday’s Super Bowl! I still think it’s really funny to hear today that some babies who are so young think that Missy Elliott is a new artist. Makes me feel old.

Missy was my childhood and Alyson Stoner was my dancing spirit animal.

Performance of the Day

[youtube=http://youtu.be/jaqymceidB8]

So I missed Sia’s performance of “Elastic Heart” last night, but it’s a performance that I was looking forward to all week because Maddie Ziegler was going to be perofrming choreography alongside her. As expected, it didn’t disappoint. Is it weird that I felt like my eyes were glued to her moves rather than Sia herself? I guess that’s not so surprising because Sia herself was in one position the entire time and that was maybe done on purpose to give Maddie more of the attention.

Music Video of the Day

[youtube=http://youtu.be/2vjPBrBU-TM]

So I’m probably the last person to watch this music video and before the other day, I didn’t really have any interest in it because while I love Sia – Chandelier just isn’t my favorite song. It was brought to my attention the other day though because I learned that Maddie Ziegler is the star of the entire thing and she was my favorite child on that horrible show “Dance Moms.” Yes, it’s horrible and I’ve watched countless seasons, but these kids are too precious. I’m mostly watching for them and not the moms. Maddie is incredibly talented. It’s kind of amazing that she landed a gig that was so mainstream and is probably going to launch her career further. I’m sure there was totally a plot/story line about this on the show where the moms were all jeal. That seems to always happen.

Mike Song | “TROUBLE” by Jose James (Funk LeBlanc Remix)

[youtube=http://youtu.be/YCUMw92HSrQ]

I could honestly spend hours watching choreography videos from former Kaba Modern members.  Mike Song and Yuri Tag are still filming videos for them and I’m obsessed. I’ve actually been looking into dancing again up in the city and am now just seeking a place that I can become a regular at. I’m pretty scrappy though so I think it will be light years until I actually feel okay enough to post something up. I hadn’t heard this track before, but I love both this version and the original. Mike Song did a great job with the choreography.

Taylor Swift – Shake It Off

[youtube=http://youtu.be/nfWlot6h_JM]

I wasn’t quite sure if I wanted to make this the Song of the Day, but as I listen to the song a second time and then a third time, I realized how much it was growing on me. I wanted to keep this simple though so here are just my thoughts on this:

  • Continue embracing your white girl dancing self, Taylor!
  • The songs in which she decides to talk instead of sing. Why doesn’t anyone give her feedback to not do that?
  • It’s true, being a country singer is kind of like the gateway to stardom. Look at how far from country she is now!
  • I hope the rumors are true and that she actually is dating Karlie Kloss.

So wait, which song is better – Taylor’s or Mariah’s?
