RIP Christina Grimmie

We were deeply saddened to learn last night that Christina Grimmie was shot and killed after her concert while signing autographs for fans at her Orlando show. She was shot several times by a deranged fan who had traveled from another city in Florida to kill her – armed with two guns and a hunting knife and with the hope that he could get away after an incident like this. During the shooting, the gunman was tackled by Christina Grimmie’s brother and in the altercation the gunman then shot and killed himself.

To hear about her death last night was not only heartbreaking, but left us feeling confused and cold. Christina was just 22 years old with a whole life ahead of her. If you’ve been following Yow Yow! for a long time, then you know that we blogged about her back in 2010 because of her YouTube covers. They were phenomenal. She had started filming her covers at just 15 years old and back then and even up until yesterday she was a positive, energetic, and spritely young woman. Christina later on went to compete on The Voice where she ended up taking 3rd place – a really big deal for her fans. I still remember being glued to my TV that season and rooting for her every step of the way.

I think another reason why I adored Christina so much was because she was also a scene kid. She reminded me of myself and my friends at that age and she had no problem admitting that she was super nerdy. Her YouTube username is, zeldaxlove64, after all.

Christina tragically died last night giving back to her fans in a setting that was supposed to be memorable, exciting, and overall a happy moment. I was attending concerts regularly by the age of 15 and back then I remember showing up early during load-in and staying a little bit later after the sets of my favorite bands so that I could talk with the band members. Never in my life did I ever think that anything dangerous or life-threatening would happen in that moment. This gunman took away the life of someone who cared so much about their fans and also ruined this experience for her fans who will always remember this moment as something that ended in tragedy. RIP Christina Grimmie.

RIP Beth

Oh, spoiler alert. Last night on the mid-season finale of The Walking Dead, our beloved Beth exited the show which sent me into a stream of tears both the first and second time I watched her die. I had to watch it a second time because I just couldn’t believe it! Beth was one of my favorite characters on the show because she’s a character that has so much heart and an immense amount of strengh. Never being the one to exert very much violence like her other co-starts, Emily was much more content being the one that kept the peace. It wasn’t until her last season that we really witnessed Beth show just how much power she could have. In fact, we saw that come out in the very last few seconds she was alive. In the clips below, Beth appears on “Talking Dead” the show after “The Walking Dead” which recaps everything that happened in the last episode and in it actress Emily Kinney tears up several times which in turn makes me tear up.

James Avery Passes Away

It is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to one of the best dads on television in the 90’s. James Avery was famous for his role as “Uncle Phil” on Fresh Prince of Bel Air and today he passed away at the age of 65 in an LA hospital. Avery had recently undergone surgery for an undisclosed illness when things had taken a turn for the worst yesterday. He is survived by his wife of 26 years.

Lee Thompson Young Found Dead, At 29

It saddens me to announce today that Ex- Disney star Lee Thompson Young known for his role in The Famous Jett Jackson was found dead today in what is believed to be an apparent suicide. The actor was 29 years old.

Young currently appears in the TNT show “Rizzoli & Isles” — and we’re told when he didn’t show up to work this morning, staffers called the landlord of Young’s L.A. home to check up on the actor.

When I was a kid, The Famous Jett Jackson was one of my favorite childhood shows. It breaks my heart to hear about these suicides in the news recently and knowing the pain and the hurt that these young actors are going through. RIP Lee Thompson Young.

Lea Michele Dedicates Award to Cory Monteith

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wc6OOddDtKE]

When Lea Michele accepted her award last night for Teen Choice TV Actress: Comedy, we were a little surprised and not sure what to expect. She has briefly stepped out into the public since Cory’s passing and has not said too many words, but  we kept hearing from her cast mates that Lea was a “true professional” and that she was very very strong. That was obviously true last night as she dedicated her award to Cory and spoke about him in a moving and tearful speech. Yes, I was even brought to tears myself watching the show last night.

Cory Monteith Found Dead At 31

I am saddened to come home to news that Cory Monteith has passed away today at the age of 31. The breakout star of Glee became an overnight-singing sensation through the hit show, but openly admitted to the media recently that he was seeking treatment for his drug addiction in rehab.  Things were looking up for the young actor and his girlfriend and co-star Lea Michele expressed her support by staying by the actor’s side through this. Unfortunately, Cory was found in his room today at the Fairmont Pacific Hotel.

I can only imagine how difficult this is for the entire Glee cast and crew. Our prayers are with those close to Cory.

RIP Google Reader

Come midnight (late this evening/tomorrow early morning) Google Reader will be officially gone! Sad day, for everyone that has used the service to keep track of their blogs and news. Don’t be caught surprised though; make sure you are doing all of your transfers before midnight to save all of your favorite blogs easily. My preference of choice would be Bloglovin, but Kevin has also suggested using Feedly as well.

You can also stay up to date on Yow Yow by subscribing via Bloglovin here.
