Review: Big Hero 6

The first time I saw the trailer for Big Hero 6 was a couple months ago. I don’t remember much from it except for one scene in which the big marshmallow of a blob is taping up his holes which are making a whistling sound at a police station. Truth: It’s still funny watching that scene months later.

I can’t remember the last time I loved a Disney movie this much. It’s right up there with my Aladdin, Mulan, Lion King, and Monster’s Inc. I think, but if I were a kid watching this movie, I would beg my parents to take me to see this movie over and over again. In fact, I think we’re already looking forward to seeing this movie again – but this time in 3D!

I’ve got a list of reasons for why I love this movie and am rating it a 10/10. I’ll do my best to not spoil anything for anyone!

  1. The movie takes place in a made-up city called San Fransokyo which is a hybrid of San Francisco and Tokyo and it looked awesome. I wanted to live there.
  2. Diversity! The characters in the film come from varying backgrounds and the main character Hiro Hamada is actually half-Asian.
  3. Prior to watching the movie last night, I knew nothing about the plot. As soon as I learned that this was revolving around tech, I felt a little bit more at home!
  4. Though a Disney film, the story actually comes from a Marvel background.
  5. I laughed so hard that I ended up gripping the arm of the person that I brought along with me. And when I cried, I was a wreck. The best part about this film was witnessing the relationship between Hiro Hamada and his brother Tadashi because there’s something about sibling relationships that really tug at my heart stringsa bit and I think it’s one that most people can relate to if they’ve got a relationship like those two.

I’ve included the trailer below, but it really doesn’t do the film any justice at all. You might even be better off not watching the trailer at all and just going straight to the theater to watch the film.

Girl Meets World Extended Trailer

[youtube=http://youtu.be/EYZhGgc63II]

I can’t believe how excited I am to be watching the premiere of this series next month. That’s not normal for someone in their mid-20’s to say I think, but the original was such a classic! Also I was so surprised that the actress that plays “Riley” – Topanga and Cory’s daughter – looks so young, but seems to sound much older than she really is.

I don’t know what that’s like in real life so I guess I’m in awe a little bit.

Joe Jonas: My Life As a Jonas Brother

A piece written by Joe Jonas was released last night and will appear in the December 13th issue of New York Magazine. In this, Joe describes the pressures of growing up in front of the spotlight, being a Disney kid, losing his virginity (yeah- see ya Promise ring) and smoking for the first time with Miley and Demi. To someone that was probably not interested in the Disney childhood stars, you might have a different opinion about the article, but I actually found it quite interesting. It doesn’t sound like it was contrived from his people. It sounds like it was a written by a 24-year old and the details that he has shared are not just things that you would expect any Disney star to admit. While I’m bummed that the Jonas Brothers broke up, I realize that it’s not feasible for them to be performing together as a family forever. After all, they’re going to have their own families to tend to someday. If Hanson couldn’t do it then they shouldn’t be held to that same standard either.

If you’re looking for a good (but lengthy) Monday morning read, here ya go!

Lee Thompson Young Found Dead, At 29

It saddens me to announce today that Ex- Disney star Lee Thompson Young known for his role in The Famous Jett Jackson was found dead today in what is believed to be an apparent suicide. The actor was 29 years old.

Young currently appears in the TNT show “Rizzoli & Isles” — and we’re told when he didn’t show up to work this morning, staffers called the landlord of Young’s L.A. home to check up on the actor.

When I was a kid, The Famous Jett Jackson was one of my favorite childhood shows. It breaks my heart to hear about these suicides in the news recently and knowing the pain and the hurt that these young actors are going through. RIP Lee Thompson Young.

A Collection Part 35

It used to take me over six months to go back to a blog that I haven’t visited in a while. With my new routine and schedule and the absence of homework, I am able to get through my blogs a lot quicker which frees up more time for me to be creative and to spend more time on posts that mean a lot to me instead of just posting and being done with it. Most of the photographs in this A Collection post came from one blog and go figure it’s called Thriving Twenties so of course we can relate hence why we love it.

Finding Dory

Ellen let slip today that Finding Nemo was getting its sequel FINALLY! Finding Dory – will take place one year after Finding Nemo happened and will include all of your favorite characters from before. Ellen revealed the news in a tweet which was later on followed by Disney’s press release.

What Ellen had to say:

“I have waited for this day for a long, long, long, long, long, long time,” Ellen said in the statement. “I’m not mad it took this long. I know the people at Pixar were busy creating Toy Story 16. But the time they took was worth it. The script is fantastic. And it has everything I loved about the first one: It’s got a lot of heart, it’s really funny, and the best part is—it’s got a lot more Dory.”

Can’t wait! Finding Nemo was one of my absolute favorites.

Is it silly that I kind of want to see this? Child at heart.

Also, I’d rather have Boo make an appearance again. When was THAT supposed to happen?!
