Doe Bay Fest 2012 Lineup

Seattle music festivals have got some character y’all! Every year I am amazed by the lineups that music festivals produce. But really, though – this is probably one of the few things I actually geek out on. In Seattle, you’ve got your hipster/indie wannabe Sasquatch go-ers, Your hip Capitol Hill Block Party attendees, “hippie” Doe Bay traveling music lovers etc. See what I did there?

Doe Bay Music Fest is one that continuously impresses me. The tickets for this festival sold out within 15 seconds and the lineup hadn’t even been revealed until just last night. Would you ever take a chance on doing something like that? Maybe for Coachella, but that’s because you know it’s stacked every year. It’s so good, they had to turn it into two weekends. However, I think Doe Bay offers a much different experience for their attendees. It is unique in that bands perform in various places located on the resort and the place itself provides a space that is both beautiful and intimate. You’re basically hanging out alongside your favorite local bands and watching their performances in a place that you may never see them in again. The rate at which the tickets sell out should be indication enough of how well this festival is received.

Anyways, here’s the lineup below. Congratulations to my favorites – Hey Marseilles and Kithkin!

Champagne Champagne’s Acoustic Rap

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LVqnYh8Qs_U]

This was a great year for local hip hop group Champagne Champagne! We had them over at Seattle U earlier in the year for a CoffeeHaus set and then later saw them on the lineups for Capitol Hill Block Party, Doe Bay Fest and Bumbershoot.

Here’s a video of one of their performances from Doe Bay in which they are rapping to acoustic.

Spend Your Thanksgiving w/ Doe Bay

Are you in the Seattle area for Thanksgiving without any plans? Doe Bay Resort has got a place for you and they’re offering a pretty sweet deal too! For those of you who don’t know, Doe Bay Resort is located on Orcas Island and every summer they throw down one of the coolest music festivals in the Northwest. The music festival is spread out over a weekend featuring some of Seattle’s greatest local acts (about 20 some? That might not be right) to perform for attendees, which is a few hundred. I’m really not good with my numbers right now and it’s 11:15, which means it’s too late for me to be doing some extra digging. Basically the festival takes place in intimate settings all over the resort  and attendees can choose to camp on Doe Bay’s grounds or stay in some of their one-of-a-kind cabins and yurts. YURTS! You heard right.

This year’s festival sold out before the lineup was even released. I’ve never heard of anything that crazy before, but that definitely says a lot about the event doesn’t it?

If you choose to spend your Thanksgiving with Doe Bay, then you’ll get priority notification of when Doe Bay Fest tickets will be available and you’ll have the opportunity to purchase them before they are released to the public. Along with that includes some upgrades in accommodations.

What We Misssed Out On At Doe Bay Fest

This past weekend was the ultimate weekend of summer festivities. We had our fair share of local events here with SAM Remix and 12th Ave Fest, but down in San Francisco, there was Outside Lands and in the middle of nowhere – the Gathering of the Juggalos…apparently, some people are into that. The most exciting event to happen in the Northwest this weekend was Doe Bay Fest. The music festival is just four years old, but already it is shaping up to be the most anticipated summer music festival in this area. This year’s lineup included: Campfire OK, Lemolo, Ravenna Woods, Pickwick, The Head and the Heart, Champagne Champagne, and many more. The best part about this is that the festival completely sold out before the lineup had even been released. Rarely does that ever happen. I mean, it’s quite the gamble if you think about it – but completely worth it apparently since everyone looks like they had a good time.

Check out all of the highlights from Doe Bay Fest through Sarah Jurado’s beautiful photographs of the people, the performances, and the stunning views here.

Out on the Town: This Weekend

I cannot believe how many wonderful things are going on this weekend! If you don’t have plans yet, start making them!

First off, I am extremely jealous of everyone )including my BFF Max) attending Outside Lands music festival in San Francisco this weekend. What an amazing lineup! I really wish YouTube would’ve struck a deal with the festival organizers for this one so that I could stream the sets live again like I did for Lollapalooza. The Shins, Ellie Goulding, The Black Keys, Beirut, Grouplove…I have to stop now before I make myself even more jealous.

Over here in the Northwest, we’ve also got our own music festival going on across the water this weekend as well. Doe Bay Fest has garnered a ton of buzz these past few months and it is well deserved. I mean…have you SEEN the lineup? It doesn’t matter if you did or didn’t, but you should know that tickets for the music festival sold out even before the lineup was released at all! That’s saying something. Before I leave Seattle, this will be one of the last things I do.

If you’re trying to stay a little closer to Seattle this weekend, then I suggest you snag tickets for you and your friends for the SAM Remix going on tomorrow. Northern Departure, Daydream Vacation, and my new favorite band Craft Spells will be performing too! It’s a very music-oriented weekend, people. Along with the music performances, SAM Remix, which will be down at the Olympic Sculpture Park tomorrow, will also be hosting an outdoor movie screening of Grease, having activities, and on-site artists. Learn more about the event and purchase your ticket here.

The 2nd Annual 12th Ave Festival will be returning to Capitol Hill once again this Sunday, which will run from Noon-6PM. The cost to attend is free, but there will be food available to purchase (all under $5) from some of my favorite Capitol Hill restaurants including Cafe Presse, Poquitos, Cupcake Royale, and many many more.

Century Ballroom in Capitol Hill will be debuting their first flea market on Saturday, which will be a part of their new year-round flea market schedule. I wish I could give you more information on it, but since it’s the very first one, I don’t have much to say yet. I’m sure it wouldn’t hurt to check it out though so make sure you stop by for some treasured goods! I’m totally diggin’ on the idea of Capitol Hill jumping on the flea market band wagon though.

Last, but not least, Seapony, Gold Leaves, and Math and Physics Club will be performing tomorrow as part of the KEXP Seattle Center Concerts at the Mural series. These weekly shows at the mural are free and from what I’ve heard, ton of fun! Doors are at 5; bands play at 6.

Music Spotlight: Lemolo

This music spotlight is actually a little overdue because I have been listening to Lemolo on repeat for the past month or so! If you’ve got a great memory, then you might remember that I featured these lovely ladies back in February as the Song of the Day. Since then, Lemolo has been making headlines left and right and earning spots on this year’s Bumbershoot and Doe Bay Fest lineup! While I won’t be able to see them perform at Doe Bay, I am very much looking forward to their set at Bumbershoot near the end of the summer! I was also surprised to learn that Miss Melodie Knight of Campfire OK is their booking agent as well. That band can do no wrong…therefore…neither can Lemolo! I can’t wait to get their full length. For now, you can listen to their two songs on repeat like I do here.

Doe Bay Fest Lineup 2011

The Head and The Heart, Damien Jurado, John Vanderslice, Sallie Ford & the Sound Outside, The Builders and the Butchers, Sera Cahoone, Pickwick, The Maldives, Champagne Champagne, Kelli Schaefer, Ravenna Woods, Lemolo, Cobirds Unite, Campfire OK, Frank Fairfield, Bryan John Appleby, Tea Cozies, Shelby Earl, Mash Hall / Don’t Talk to the Cops, Fly Moon Royalty, OK Sweetheart, Goldfinch, Matt & Mike Gervais (Curtains for You), Matt Bishop (Hey Marseilles), Youth Rescue Mission, Elk & Boar, Melodie Knight, Hannalee, Sean Flinn

The lineup was just announced tonight at a release party held at Columbia City Theater. Unfortunately, tickets for the event have already sold out! They sold out last month within just three minutes of being available for purchase without even a lineup being announced until tonight. Of course, now seeing the lineup, it is totally worth it! I am SO proud of Champagne Champagne and Campfire OK being on the bill for both Doe Bay Fest, Capitol Hill Block Party, and Bumbershoot this year and am thrilled to have had the privilege of working with both groups.

Congratulations to all the bands on the lineup and ticket holders. I am so jealous of your weekend.

Doe Bay Fest

There are so many music festivals slash events in general happening in the Seattle area this summer, but one that might not be on your radar just yet is the Doe Bay Fest. From what I hear, it is much more laid back then say… the Capital Hill Block Party or Bumbershoot, so if you’re looking for a getaway you should check out this one because it’s on Orcas Island.

Lineup

12:20 – 1:05 Spanish for 100

1:20 – 2:05 Weinland

2:20 – 3:05 The Lonely Forest

3:20 – 4:05 Friday Mile

4:20 – 5:05 The Moondoggies

5:20- 6:05 Hey Marseilles

6:15 – 7:05 David Bazan

7:15 – 8:15 The Maldives

8:40 – 10 The Long Winters

This festival was meant to be small though as there are only 750 tickets available so if you want in better get on it fast.
