Colour Family

Top – Aritzia / Skirt – Brandy Melville / Booties – Dolce Vita

I don’t know if I ever would have thought to dream up this combo, but surprisingly, I’m happy with the outcome. If you follow me on Instagram (@katieyowyow) then you know this blouse and I are on our last leg together. I discovered three holes in it yesterday and that was just from the front. I’m convinced there’s at least two more in the back of my shirt somehow, but it’s one of my favorites. Aritzia is a game changer when it comes to soft fabrics in their tees and their blouses and ever since I purchased my first one, I have never regretted it. And maybe you’re familiar with this skirt by now. When I first bought it, there was only one other top that I could imagine pairing it with, but I’ve since been able to wear the “Taylor Swift” corduroy skirt with 63% of my closet. Wearing all three of these pieces in the same color family can be a little tricky, but with the skirt being the most dramatic color change piece in the outfit, we were able to use it as sort of a color block. Overall, I loved how suitable this outfit was to wear for work, but it still felt really romantic in its own way and feminine.

Throwback to Fall

Dress + Scarf – Aritzia / Booties – Dolce Vita

Bear with me as we catch up on outfit posts, y’all! This isn’t the first time you’ve seen these booties (and they won’t be the last!) – they made appearances all throughout fall – when it wasn’t raining of course. When I picked this outfit to wear to work, it had been a new one that I hadn’t tried out before so I wasn’t sure how all the colors were going to work together, but I knew this scarf would complement the booties and the booties would make the outfit more casual because of the black dress. Can I be the poster girl for Aritzia yet? I luv you. I haven’t given this scarf too much love lately because I’m still obsessed with the one from Oak + Fort, but I think they both are very different. The Oak + Fort scarf is great for days when it’s chilly af. However, this one is still warm and cozy, but just a little bit lighter and not a pain to lug around.

Black, White, Tan

White tee – Madewell / Pants – Uniqlo / Booties – Dolce Vita

After I got these boots, I really tried my best to pair them with just about everything that I could imaginable. This was one of the more successful looks! I know I mentioned that I’ve never been a jeans and a t-shirt kind of a girl, but these aren’t jeans so I think that’s what made this easier. Believe it or not, this is the only white-tee that I have. I purchased this from Madewell years ago and even though it’s the most classic staple and everyone has one, it can be difficult to find the perfect one. Sometimes, they don’t fit right, sometimes the cut is weird, you don’t like the fabric, etc. Plus, on top of that, you have to take care of it! It’s a magnet for stains, but you already knew that.

Well it’s a little bit embarrassing how overdue this post is considering that we bought these Dolce Vita booties specifically for fall and now…we’re headed into spring! I really didn’t want to pass up a chance to write a post about these though because they were one of my favorite buys in 2015. I had been looking for a pair of booties for quite some time as I only had my scuffed up black ones that I had stolen from my Mom and my gray ones that I have had for a couple years now. What I really wanted were some short suede ones in a neutral tan color so as soon as these were released, I kept my eye on it for a couple of weeks! I’ve been realizing though that I haven’t worn them to an exhausting amount because since these are lighter colored, I get so nervous about them getting messed up. However, they go really well with cute spring dresses and a pair of denim jeans (not like I wear pants that much anyways!)

Dolce Vita Summer 2015

Nessah Wedges – $180

I’m always a huge fan when it comes to brands in Seattle and Dolce Vita is definitely one of them. I bought my first pair of wedges ever from them two years ago and a pair of sandals that I still live in last summer. It’s my dream to be invited to their showroom downtown! Now another summer has rolled around and I’m looking for my next pair to conquer! Here are just a few of my favorite picks. Anyone have a favorite? Which one do you think looks the best?

The One Rule You Can’t Break at Weddings

I don’t know how many times I have to say this. You have one job and your job is to not wear white to a wedding. Why is it so hard for people to get this right? Don’t wear white. The bride wears white. You do not wear white. And while you’re at it, don’t wear cream or beige or off-white. Even if you accessorize with colorful pieces – a cardigan or a belt, you are still not allowed to wear white. We utilize every other color in the color scheme on this bride’s special day because we do not want to upstage the bride. I’m not saying you can’t stand out in your own way at all though and here’s how we can help you still do that without making this dreaded mistake that seems to happen every wedding I go to. A part of me wants to walk up to the person and just ask, “So… you wore white.” My bff Ashley on the other hand says that if anyone wears white to her wedding, they are immediately out. Good rule, Ash. We’re behind you on this one.

1. Have an amazing clutch to go with your dress. I love this one from Zara that’s only $79.90.

The Weekend: 5 Things

I just realized that the past two posts in the series have been 5 Things: The Weekend. I’m not sure if it really works both ways so we’re taking it back to the original. This year’s birthday celebration was similar to years prior in that I prefer to stretch it out. After celebrating with my friends the weekend before my birthday, I decided that the weekend after I would travel to sunny San Diego to visit my BFF Ash!

It was an incredible weekend full of shopping, seafood, and pampering.

My weekend actually got started on a Thursday since I was flying out Friday morning. On Thursday evening, I drove up to the city (what?! In the middle of the work week!) to catch London Grammar at The Independent. I had listened to a few songs before randomly, but never consistently. They were amazing live and with a packed house, it was pretty apparent that nearly everyone in the room was a hardcore fan. I didn’t feel worthy enough to be there, but I did feel pretty lucky since I heard it was a sold out show. Hannah was phenomenal. Her boys are pretty dreamy too.

During our shopping trip at Fashion Valley, we stopped by “Typo” – a division of Cotton On that sells cute desk accessories, trinkets, and home goods. How cute are these straws? They’d be perfect for any summer soiree.

Pacific Beach was perfection and so are my new favorite sandals by Dolce Vita. More on that later.

Whoooo!! This girl is my best friend. Since we’ve been friends, we’ve never spent a summer apart and this year, we won’t have to because we’ll both be in the Bay Area while she is interning at Stanford. Summer 2014 – the summer of Ash and Katie.

We found the Oh Joy! collection at Target and we fell in love. Definitely more on this later.
