It was announced this morning that Simone Battle who was 25 died of an apparent suicide. She was a very young and talented singer who was part of the GRL group and had competed and rose to fame on the singing reality show X Factor. Our prayers are with Simone’s friends and family. I had actually never watched X Factor around that time, but found this video of her covering Drake’s “Take Care” which was done amazingly.
On Fridays, my team likes to do a little something that we call “a throwback to old school R&B” which involves playing a bunch of old school R&B hits from our childhood. We’ve done this for two weeks now, but I could see it becoming something that we do on the reg. Thanks to my brother, I was a pro at knowing all of the classics by the time I was age 5. I was pretty unusual I guess. My coworker Tenzing introduced me to a game on the internet the other day (or what we like to call a time waster) in which you pick which artist you know best – Drake or Kanye – and you are able to choose the title of the song based on the snippet that you hear. I passed level 1 and it started going downhill from there, but I urge you to try it out yourself. It’s a great way to pass the time and learn some great songs that you may or may not have spent much time with. Enjoy The Rap Test y’all!
I was having a Drake moment these past couple of days.
Is that a Lauryn Hill sample I hear? Love it.
I missed SNL this weekend with Drake hosting, but was planning on catching up with it later. Here’s just a clip though to either a) hold you over or b) give you a taste of what Drake hosting was like. We think it’s pretty great.
Our favorite characters “Ellie” and “Jimmy” got together this past weekend! Let’s be real – their “generation” of Degrassi was the absolute best. It’s nice to see that the two of them are still friends. They were probably one of the few people in the series that never got together, but really should have.
Girl anthems! Some of them.
But seriously you guys, #starbucksdrakehands was too good and it was the best thing that I saw on the internet this week. Can somebody find the identity of this guy? I think we could be friends.
Before he was Drake, he was Jimmy Brooks. I’ve said it from the beginning – Jimmy was always one of my favorite characters in Degrassi and while he’s talented as a musician (obviously,) he was also extremely talented at acting. Over the years and eight seasons, his character went through life-changing moments – one that left him in a wheel chair from a school shooting – and seeing his story unravel as he learned to cope with his situation was inspiring for young adults who watched the show. Drake got his start from the series and now TeenNick is deciding to host a special of his classic episodes this Friday, October 11th starting at 10PM EST.
How one bro’s seductive video selfie turns into an outrageous internet movement. I watched every video in this BuzzFeed post this morning and had tears in my eyes. Can you imagine what you would have done if you had gotten the original message? …probably taken it viral like the girl’s friend did.

Happy Drake day, y’all! We’re celebrating by listening to his entire album Nothing Was the Same. My favorite song still might be “Hold On, We’re Going Home,” but that might be because it’s not actually a rap song and Drake just sounds good in it.
Drake is having a moment on Yow Yow! this month, but not-so-secretly we’ve been fans of his since the Degrassi days. He’s probably the only rapper in the industry right now who I never get tired of. I’m very much looking forward to his album dropping on Tuesday and can’t wait to hear what everyone thinks of it.
Also Majid Jordan, where did you come from? Swoon. We love you. Keep doing you.
