Inception

I really love what I do. Tonight my work allowed me the opportunity to see the advanced screening of the new film “Inception,” due out this Friday, July 16th.

I don’t want to give too much away about the film because you will enjoy it so much more if you know less. In fact, Leonardo DiCapario said in an interview not too long ago that he liked that there was so much mystery surrounding the trailer and what the movie was about because it added more suspense.

The cast was amazing. Leonardo, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Ellen Page, Ken Watanabe, Tom Hardy, Cillian Murphy, and Marion Cotillard blew me away. Some movies rely on an all-star cast to generate more buzz, but most of the time it isn’t accounted for. In fact, many are left feeling unsatisfied. With Inception, you won’t be. Every person has served their purpose. No one impressed me more than Miss Ellen Page. Even though she broke out of her Juno character with Whip It, she truly showed her wide range of acting abilities in this movie.

The film was beautiful, thrilling, and daring. It will keep you on the edge of your seat for all two and a half hours, but you’ll love every minute of it. Christopher Nolan did an incredible job with it all and you might even catch a few similarities from The Dark Knight as well. It’s funny how the movie is about dreams and imagination because you will  find yourself being pulled deeper and deeper into it and it is such an overwhelming feeling how attached you will be to this film in the end. What is real and what isn’t? This film will push you to think. It is complex and built upon layers, but it isn’t a chaotic mess. Just follow along and if you get a little lost along the way, maybe your imagination will put you back on the right track.

The reviews are coming out as we speak. The tough critics over at Rotten Tomatoes have already given it a 96% which is pretty damn good! For reference Toy Story 3 received a 99% and Eclipse got 54%

I also received some incredible responses from our viewers tonight:

“I can’t wait to go to sleep now!”

“…One of the best movies I’ve seen in two years.”

“Exceptional – best one I’ve seen all year.”

“I trust Nolan more than any other director.”

I highly recommend seeing this movie. I might even see it a second time. Let me know what you think!

Eclipse

The idea that people can become so hyped up about movies like the Twilight Saga and the Harry Potter series is beyond me. I’ve never stood in line for hours for a midnight showing of a movie. I haven’t read any of the books, but I have seen both movies and I probably will see Eclipse – just not in theaters.

Last night, the midnight launch of Eclipse earned over $30 million in 4,000 theaters. New Moon had only earned $26.3 Million.

Naturally, I knew that most of the news I would be reading about today were going to be about Twilight. I expected to hear the craziest stories. The first one that I saw included a video with this still:

The headline read: Angry Twilight Fans Rip Chicago Ridge Theater Projector After Projector Fail.

Believable right? It was Twilight, so I can imagine the crazed fans doing something like this. Just look at that woman’s manic eyes! After watching the video, I realized I did not see any psychotic fans ripping into a projector though that would have been AWESOME. My dyslexia/excitement got the best of me though because I realized the headline actually read Angry ‘Twilight’ Fans Rip Chicago Ridge Theater After Projector Fail.

Oh my bad.

In the News…

– Despite not being a “teenager” anymore, I still enjoy reading Teen Vogue. I haven’t felt like I have grown out of it just yet whereas I definitely did with American Girl Magazine hah

Teen Vogue is discussing about taking their magazine to the next level, which may include a new television show. So what will it be…reality? sitcom? a show like What Not to Wear? Only time will tell…

– Famous blogger Tavi of Style Rookie has turned 14. I still remain jealous of her amazing blog.

Monsters Inc 2 will have a sequel! Does that mean we get to see BOO?!

Lady Gaga may just be the next one to go under the knife.

The Fratellis have broken up after five years and two albums.

Let’s Talk: New Moon

I’ve never been a Twilight fan, but I’ve never been opposed to it either. I tried it out. I read 20 pages of the first book and watched the first movie. I’m curious to see how the story line goes so I will continue to watch the movies, but in no way do I find myself even remotely enjoying it.

One scene in particular made me laugh a little bit to myself. I was watching this w/ my mother by the way, and there’s that one scene where KStew approaches the shirtless men w/ her ‘tude and then BAM! out of nowhere… JACOB.

My mom nonchalantly says: What happened to animal activists? I’m gonna call them.

Anyways watching the movie tonight brought up a few questions I had:

  • Why is there no consistency in the movie? Scenes coming out of nowhere, nothing feels like it is organized that well… it’s a little hard to watch.
  • The man-bear dogs are so cute!
  • After that grueling fight between Jacob and the shirtless man, everything was resolved with a “sorry?” Talk about drama…
  • The soundtrack to the movie is so good. Death Cab for Cutie AND Lykke Li? It’s too bad the music can’t save the movie.
  • Do you ever feel that Bella puts herself in the worst situations? She’s practically asking for it.
  • Bella commenting on Jacob’s body heat, “You’re like your own sun.” WHAT a pickup line.
  • Bella and Jacob – such a tease
  • Romeo and Juliet reference? Is that really necessary?
  • Edward…be more emo please. Also, there was not enough of him in this movie. More Rob less Kstew please.
  • Kristen Stewart – I dare you to produce one complete sentence without a gasp of air, breaks in between, or stuttering.

So excited for Eclipse!

In The News…

Amy Poehler will return to Saturday Night Live to reprise her role as the news anchor alongside Seth Meyers on Saturday Night Live Weekend Update on Thursday September 17th. How does this work? I guess NBC is creating a new fall comedy lineup for Thursday and will serve as an introduction to Poehler’s season premiere of “Parks and Recreation” at 8:30

Kourtney & Khloe Take Miami is a new reality television series that will make its debut on E! on Sunday August 16th

– Some company used Paris Hilton’s face on a herpes ad. Lulz.

Katherine Jackson, Michael Jackson’s mother, will have full custody of his three kids.

Nickelodeon’s television series iCarly will come to an end. Soon.

– Musician Estelle and designer Rachel Roy will collaborate together for a jewelry line slated to debut Spring 2010.

– Actress Bryce Dallas Howard (daughter of Ron Howard) will replace Rachelle Lefevre as evil vampire Victoria in the Twilight saga movies beginning with the third film, “Eclipse.”

California govenor Arnold Schwarzenegger has made the decision to cut all of the funding for domestic violence programs in the year of 2009-2010. That’s $16.3 million. wtf? why would you do that?

– Actress Diane Keaton will have her own 30-minute television series on HBO in which she plays a feminist icon running a porn magazine for women.

Jude Law will be adding a fourth child to his bunch of three already from ex-wife Sadie Frost. This time, the woman is unknown, but it has been said that they were in a relationship last year but are no longer involved.

A sperm bank in Los Angeles (no surprise there!) is letting YOU pick the sperm donor yourself based on what celebrity they look like. There are many celebrities within this search including those above, Adam Brody, James Franco, Ryan Gosling and many others. Because who doesn’t want their child to be a hot piece of ass when they grow up right? The only problem is that you can’t totally confirm that the donor looks like who they say they look like. Let’s just hope that honesty wins this time.
