- Nearly Newlywed is a new start-up that I am probably going to become obsessed with very quickly. What began as a PR firm has now transformed into a website that offers beautiful bridal gowns that allow women to rent instead of purchase a gown for their big day. These gowns are “nearly new” and highlight only the best designers in the bridal industry including Oscar de la Renta, Vera Wang, Monique Lhuillier, Marchesa, Rodarte, and many more. Basically, every bride’s dream dress is right at their fingertips! The best part of this process is that you can not only rent it at a discounted price and send it back, but you can SELL it back for 30% of the price you paid for. That’s just unheard of for weddings! Learn more about Nearly Newlywed from founder Jacqueline Sheller Courtney in her interview with Fashionista.

One of my favorite blogs, BLDG 25, for the Free People brand has just undergone a makeover! I’ve been reading the blog for years, but unfortunately with school – I only get around to it every few months. I’m thinking it’s about time to upgrade to daily basis status, what do you guys think?
Check it out here.

Before the Manic Pixie Indie Dream Girl phase happened, every girl aspired to be the free-spirited woman. Our icons included Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore, and Kate Hudson. They were charming, funny, sweet, young, and coincidentally all blonde. I’ve watched my fair share of movies growing up and while I loved the 90′s romantic comedies taking place in high school, I liked to pretend that I actually knew all that was going on in movies like There’s Something About Mary or Charlie’s Angels. I was age eight and ten, respectively, when those movies came out.
Cameron Diaz is just that actress that remains to be unforgettable despite not always being in the spotlight. I absolutely love this shot of her on the new cover for InStyle. The editorial isn’t my favorite, but you can peep the rest of the images here!

Our school recently installed a new art piece next to our library and even though it looks like a tower of plastic ice cubes, I can tell the message is so much stronger than that. In the evenings, the ice cubes light up in an array of colors. What purpose that serves, I wouldn’t be able to tell you, but it is visually pleasing. A student in my department had the opportunity to name the piece and she came up with “Justice” or “Just-ice” WHOAAA two names. It is obvious why that was the clear winner.

Spring has sprung in Seattle, therefore, I think that it is justified for me to be purchasing a new pair of shorts. Even though I’m not as much of a girly girl anymore as I was in high school ie) I don’t feel like being covered in pink everything, I still have a soft spot for the color. Every once in awhile, my weakness for it will make me break out the wallet and this time it was on a pair of pink pastel seersucker shorts. Yep, seersucker. The kind of fabric all babies wore in the 90′s. It’s a classic though! Pair it with a tank top, a button up shirt, or a cardigan and you’ve got the ideal outfit perfect for the season. I’m pretty happy with my purchase, but am quickly realizing that I am trying to convince all of you way more than I need to.

Since I recently made a post about what dresses I find to be appropriate for this year’s high school students attending Prom, I suppose it is only fair for me to post some dresses that I think Prom could do without. There are quite a few schools that have been notifying students of specific dresses that are banned from the event and while I am a firm believer in expressing yourself through clothes, I think I agree with the schools.
A few of these so-called “banned” dresses are featured in the seasonal prom issues of magazines such as Seventeen Prom and Teen Prom. Why do these even exist? Most of the time, these dresses have to be specially ordered or ordered online and that to me just doesn’t seem worth it especially when you can go into a store and have the opportunity of trying something on. It is magazines like these that sometimes put a lot of stress and pressure on a young girl to find the perfect Prom dress, but the dress is not what is going to make your night memorable. Anyways, here are a few dresses that I would not want to be wearing at Prom.
I’ll admit the ombre fade to dip dye is nice, but two cutouts? Really? TWO cutouts? One is usually enough and sometimes even that can be pushing it. The cutouts in addition to the high slit and the back of the dress (click the link for this bonus view) are too much. The model should just omit the middle, wear a bustier and wear the bottom of the dress as a skirt.
With shows like Dancing with the Stars and outrageous red carpet gowns, it is no surprise that school administrators have been cracking down on the dress codes recently. Schools districts all over the country have gone as far as creating a guide for their students informing them what types of dresses are banned from their formal dance. The times have definitely changed since I was a high school student because this was never an issue for my peers.
However, from a young girl’s perspective – I get it. Short is sexy. Cutouts are intriguing. See-through gowns are mysterious…maybe? But there’s a difference. You can incorporate trends without being over the top and can ere on the side of classy over trashy. You may think that the only way to be fashion forward is to be sexy, but you’re going to Prom to wear a beautiful dress and to have an incredible time with your friends and your date. The sexiest thing about a someone at Prom is confidence and you don’t need a dress to do that for you. Here are some of my favorite picks for the season:

J. Crew Sinclair Dress – $250

It’s the MOST won-der-ful time of the year!
Technically, Andy Williams sings this song for the Christmas season, but there should be a tune for the season of spring, wouldn’t you agree?
One of my favorite retailers, Aritzia, debuted a new post today on their blog featuring this beautiful array of dresses in the season’s best hues. I couldn’t be more excited, really. To see just a couple of the dresses in more detail, click here.

On April 5th, the URBN Inc. brand will launch a new online platform through Anthropologie that will feature collaborative collections from 11 designers. The website, Made in Kind, will feature some incredible pieces from well known designers such as Karen Walker and Gregory Parkinson as well as some designers that you may not have heard of yet. The brand will aim to highlight style and design over big names in the industry.
In a release, Anthropologie says Made In Kind will function as a gallery “housing multiple exhibitions per month, each dedicated to a single designer or concept.” There will also be editorial content to go along with the collaborations. Additionally, select items will be available in stores and through the catalog.

Even topless, Lauren Conrad still manages to look super sweet and classy on the cover of Glamour. The reality star turned fashion designer turned author can do no wrong.
