It wouldn’t be a birthday celebration unless I celebrated twice. I had a ball in San Francisco, but of course nothing beats having a birthday in Seattle with some of my friends from school. Yesterday my dear friend Stephanie and I treated ourselves to a Chinese feast at Regent Cafe & Bakery – a new eatery that just opened up on 14th and Pine. Now, we thought our appetites were large yesterday afternoon, but clearly not enough to put away the four dishes that we ordered.

Needless to say, Steph and I quickly fell into a heavy food coma. If we weren’t on a time crunch, I’m sure the both of us could have sat there forever lounging and taking our time with our dishes. My usual qualm with Chinese food is that it can sometimes be too greasy or oily, but not this time. The chow mein was littered with fresh vegetables and the noodles (even eaten as leftovers today) are still as fresh as they were yesterday. Also, I’d like to extend a thank you to Regent for bringing out a complimentary cream puff from their bakery selection with a lit candle! You guys are wonderful and I’ll most likely be back next week.
So I just realized that my first post about San Francisco was a little bit weak. It was all sorts of reflective-ness and such, but I didn’t even go into detail about the things that matter the most: the food and the sights and everything we did in between. San Francisco is a beautiful city. It has so much character and color. People are full of energy almost all of the time and being there for four days was an adventure like I’ve never experienced before. Many friends told me before leaving on my trip that San Francisco is a lot like Seattle. I disagree. It’s in a city, sure, and it’s near water, but other than those two things, nothing else stood out to me that would support the cities being similar. If you’re making a visit soon, just stop – and look up at the buildings and the structure of it all. There’s also way more things to do there than in Seattle. In fact, I’m probably going to need to plan another trip again soon to complete it all.
On our first day, we picked up lunch at a popular deli called Arguello. We took our sandwiches up to the old army barracks overlooking Golden Gate and battled the intense winds as I tried to nom my sandwich desperately needing a hair tie. Afterwards, we just decided to embrace the wind. The photograph above is just a still of my girlfriends running with it for five minutes.

It’s no secret that I am a huge fan of food. Photographs of food, reading about food, making it, but more importantly eating it – is something I look forward to every day. So when I discovered Punchfork today, my level of excitement was Kristen Bell sloth status. Punchfork is basically kind of like a Pinterest for food featuring photographs and forwarding you to recipes that you are interested in.
Happy spring readers! We’re long overdue for a Collection post so I thought I would leave you with one before I embark on the rest of my spring break venturing for the week. It’s definitely shorter than usual, but still packed with pretty pictures. I wanted to kick off this collection post with a comic from one of my favorite sites, A Softer World. Together, they are the perfect combination of beautiful photography and witty thoughts.
On our way to Yogurtland today, Anna and I walked pass the new gelato shop, D’Ambrosio Gelato, set to open their doors starting tomorrow at 5PM! I believe it’s just a soft opening for now, but that’s no reason to not visit it. Like a little kid, I put both my hands up ready to press them up against the glass when I saw the interior of the shop completely finished. I actually thought it was open at first until…I noticed that no one was inside and there was no gelato.
It’s cool – it’s all happening tomorrow. No worries. The shop is on 12th and Pine just right up the street from Molly Moon’s!
I suppose it’s a little strange to wake up in the morning craving a burger, but you just can’t help the way you feel sometimes. If I could, I would venture out of Seattle for the day to California for an Umami Burger! I’ve actually never had one, but I’ve heard a lot about it – can anyone share their views?
It’s disappointing cause what I’m really going to have for lunch is just a plain turkey sandwich. Oh the life of a college student…
Every time I drive past the Taco Time in Wallingford, I ask myself, “How is it possible for a Taco Time to look THAT good?” Every other standard Taco Time in Washington looks like a normal fast food restaurant, but not this one. The one in Wallingford has beautiful glass windows and is modern looking in a neighborhood that is…not. Its mint sheen makes the restaurant’s exterior extremely attractive and though I have never eaten at this location, its appearance alone makes me want to.
It didn’t make Flavorwire’s list of of Most Beautiful Fast Food Restaurants in the World, but Starbucks’ Tukwila location did!
To celebrate the Girl Scouts’ 100th anniversary, Molly Moon’s will be giving out free kid-sized scoops of their classic Scout Mint all day starting at noon!
OH MY Goodness. And if that news doesn’t melt your heart and warm your stomach enough, then the Girl Scouts themselves will be selling their cookies and greeting customers outside of the shops beginning at 3PM.
Winning by a land slide, Seattle’s own Dick’s Drive-In was named the most “life changing burger joint” beating out In-N-Out, Five Guys, Father’s Office and more.
They serve a simple, cheap burger (a Deluxe double is an astoundingly low $2.70) that people just like. The secrets, according to a spokesperson for Dick’s, aren’t very secret: The beef patties are “fresh, never frozen, and delivered locally every day,” and they use a sauce made of mayonnaise and spiced pickle relish.
I just stopped by there yesterday, but my best memory from Dicks (and there’s been a few,) is when my four friends from home came to visit me and after a night out we decided to stop by Dick’s right before they closed at 2AM to snag the last batch of burgers. Sorry we weren’t sorry to the huge line of people after us that unfortunately didn’t get their late night meal.
