I haven’t been paying as much attention to the most recent Freelance Whales’ album as I should’ve and I’m kind of regretting it. Their first album was one of my favorites, but with Spotify I typically tend to focus more on tracks than albums as a whole. Luckily for me, Amazon has been using this song for the new Kindle Fire commercial and that’s what brought them back on my radar again!
In a new ad campaign by Starbucks, the coffeehouse chain explains that your drink is not just made by the peppy barista behind the counter, but by many hands including the hands of farmers, dock works, and those that approve of the coffee themselves. There’s a lot of discrepancy surrounding the chain when they are compared to independent coffee shops or those that run on a fair-trade model so I think this ad was made to put those rumors to rest.
I’ve taken several classes that have brought out opposing views towards Starbucks and while it is a chain that dominates the coffee industry and is often times considered generic and unpersonalized, I can’t seem to change my views. I actually enjoy my Starbucks and I have been ordering my drinks from them ever since my uncle bought me my first hot chocolate from there, which was probably at age ten.
However, if you’re one of those people that absolutely hates Starbucks with a passion along with their cutesy desserts and delicious frapps, then you should at least watch this video for the music. You can never go wrong with Freelance Whales.
Fun Fact: Band member Chuck Criss is the older brother of Glee star Darren Criss!
(Obligatory pointing of the fact that musical talent runs in the family?)
So I’m a few months late on this, but back in October, Freelance Whales collaborated with Green Label Sound to produce “Enzymes.” The song strays away from their usual indie pop and drifts over to the dark side a bit, but the song is fantastic. Whether this is a new direction for them or not in the future, I know I’ll still remain a fan.
Slowing down your computers…one image at a time. I was planning on saving this post until next year, but it’s been 3 months since the last collection! I didn’t think it would be fair. Also, I’m pretty sure that these pictures sum up my last fall quarter perfectly. Enjoy!
HEY CHAMP is playing the Sunday of Capitol Hill Block Party and I am so excited. Was it officially revealed? Of course not, they’re saving it. If you want proof, just go to their MySpace.
You know who else would be great at Capitol Hill Block Party?
Freelance Whales [in my dreams]
and Florence and the Machine. Especially with this performance of “Dog Days Are Over” from Glastonbury. Prepare yourself for greatness.
