A First Look at Yeezy Gap

I didn’t really know what to expect when I learned about the Yeezy Gap collaboration, but we remained curious. To be honest, I actually forgot about this partnership until I saw this post today on [Fashionista] The fact that Yeezy Gap leans more to active wear isn’t all that surprising. I love this bright electric blue and while this puffer is unconventional, we don’t hate it. I’d love to see what this looks like after trying it on. For now, we’ve just got a glimpse of Kanye wearing it himself below:

Kanye West x Gap

When I woke up to this news yesterday, I initially thought it was a joke. Doesn’t it seem like the kind of April Fools we’d expect? The doubt was merely just because of the very off-centered logo. Gap has been hurting for some time as a brand, but is Kanye West the answer here? Can his 10-year deal with the retailer save the company?

“We are excited to welcome Kanye back to the Gap family as a creative visionary, building on the aesthetic and success of his Yeezy brand and together defining a next-level retail partnership,” Mark Breitbard, Global Head of Gap Brand, said in a release.

For now, we can just expect clothing out of this collaboration, but may see more in the future. I’ve always viewed Gap to be a classic brand and while I’m not a regular, I love them for basic staples ie) loungerwear, pants, denim, etc. We’ll definitely keep an eye on what’s coming out, but not making any promises!

Updated Classic

Denim Jacket – Gap / Black Pants – Uniqlo / Boots – Something Navy x Nordstrom

These OOTD photos were just taken earlier this year, but already these feel like a distant memory. Before purchasing this Gap denim jacket, the last time I can remember having one is middle school. After that time period, I thought my days of needing one of these were over. On a random afternoon though, Winny and I had popped into a Gap “just to browse” and I realized that I needed this staple back in my life. It’s my go-to for all those moments when you just don’t know what to wear. There’s actually a running joke I think about how black pants and a denim jacket is the uniform for every basic SF girl. They may not be wrong about that. I may also not be ashamed by that fact. I added the white boots for a “pop,” but we’re not sure if it’s actually working.

But Have You Tried The Sandwich?

Tank Top – Nordstrom / Denim Jacket – Gap / Jeggings – Uniqlo / Heels – Vince Camuto / Cap – Urban Outfitters

Call us a bandwagon fan because I had never eaten Popeyes before I learned about this deal they had on Tuesdays. For context though, this deal has been in place prior to the hype around the sandwich, which I’ve had twice. Twice in both versions to be specific – spicy and non-spicy. 10/10 would recommend to every one of y’all!

It’s unclear whether this golden hour is the sole reason why this is nearly my favorite photo of the year or if it’s Popeyes, but it’s likely the joy spread across my face because I’m excited to eat a great meal.

“Your Gap Look”

Top – shop in Taipei / Denim Jacket – Gap / Pants – Alternative Apparel / Scarf + Bag – Madewell / Heels – Oak + Fort

If there’s something that I could work on with regards to getting ready in the morning, it would be accessorizing. This look was caught on a good day, but in general, I’m usually without any additional accessories or jewelry. The combination of red, white, and blue is a classic look, but my concern is that it sometimes gets branded 4th of July too quickly. Maybe this felt more subtle because there are a few other colors mixed in. Perhaps it’s because this was an outfit I wore to work and not to a summer BBQ.

Lately, I’ve noticed that I tread the line between comfy cozy and professional a bit closely. I received some anonymous feedback that sometimes the addition of heels to my outfits doesn’t work because the overall look is too casual. *shrugs* You can elevate nearly any look with heels. Also your own discomfort with the look doesn’t necessarily mean that I’m doing it incorrectly.

Camel Colored Things

Denim Jacket – Gap / Top – Zara / Pants – Uniqlo / Booties – Munro by Nordstrom

Kevin hates being my photographer, but we have to admit – he does a pretty good job right? While I’m so grateful for everyone that I’ve ever had shoot for me, I’m lucky to have a brother that gets it on the very first take. And then produces the best shots even after that so that there are no bad takes! Earlier this fall, I had a strong craving for camel colored pieces. The perfect camel coat was everywhere this past season, but since I wasn’t ready to jump right into it, I settled for a simple sweater top from Zara. It pairs so nicely with my Uniqlo jeggings (surprise!) and my denim jacket.

Hiding Out in Half Moon Bay

Dress – ASTR / Denim Jacket – Gap / Sneakers – Keds / Socks – Uniqlo

What’s better than having an extended period of time off between jobs? Knowing that one of your best friends is also in between jobs at the same time! Brad and I didn’t plan this, of course, but it made things easier. I had a friend to hang out with, but I also had someone that could relate to what I was going through at that exact point in time. There was a longer extended vacation coming before I started the new job, but I also wanted a day to get out of the city. The last time I was in between, I heavily convinced Jason to come with me to Half Moon Bay. He was a good sport. We started the day in Pescadero and ended it with dinner at The Ritz-Carlton in Half Moon Bay.

You’re supposed to be a little careful when you’re in between jobs, but after all, it was a bit of a celebration. Since Brad and I also went to Half Moon, I figured I could own this as my tradition. However, let’s hope that I don’t have to take this trip anytime soon! It was a so-so weather kind of a day, but I wanted to be near the water. Beaches in my hometown are nothing compared to here. I love the easiness of being able to get to one closely from where I am.

Having had a lavish dinner at the Ritz last time, I didn’t feel the need to do the same again. Brad and I settled for a latte for me and sitting down near the fire pit. It’s nice to pretend to be like guests even if it’s short lived!

When We Own The Pier

Jacket – Gap / Top – Brandy Melville / Skirt – Nordstrom / Shoes – Vince Camuto

We’re staying cozy on this rainy Sunday, but this throwback of a nice summer day just six months ago warms my heart! Up until recently, I haven’t spent that much time walking the Embarcadero. It’s only become a more frequent spot for me because it’s a nice getaway when I want some fresh air from the office. We managed to get a shot when no one was around, which is surprising because when we do get blessed with nice days, every one in San Francisco is OUT.

My favorite purchase of last year was this denim jacket. I’m not sure why it took me so long to get it, but it goes with just about everything even when I think it won’t. One of its gifts is that it can make any outfit that appears a bit fancier more casual like pairing it with this skirt. After wearing it to my holiday party back in 2016, I’ve found that I’ve been able to give it more than just one life and love incorporating it into my outfits for the office.

Since the pier is right next to the Ferry Building, it’s been a popular spot for Kevin and I to take some of our friends that visit us from out of town. Seattle has always had its own pier too, but strangely enough, I’ve already been to the one in SF more than in Seattle!

Ruby Red

Denim Jacket – Gap / Dress – Nordstrom / Booties – Vince Camuto / Sunglasses – Marc Jacobs

When it comes to clothes shopping, I’ve never been much of a scavenger. Thrift stores are overwhelming to me. Even discounted stores like Nordstrom Rack make me feel like I have no idea what I’m doing. My favorite place to live these days though is a very specific rack at Nordstrom – “Final Few.” Earlier this year, I found myself in a pinch looking for last minute wedding guest dresses. They are easily my favorite and least favorite pieces to shop for. It’s my favorite because I try to be intentional with the dresses that I select making sure that they are appropriate for the style of wedding, setting, and has a bit of the bride’s personality sprinkled in. They are my least favorite because you never know when you’ll wear it again. I’ll consider buying a dress for a wedding a win if I can find another use for it.

When I saw this ruby red velvet dress on the “Final Few” rack, I knew almost immediately that I would love it. However, it had a lot of details in it that made me convinced I wouldn’t. First off, it doesn’t scream “spring wedding.” The style makes it more appropriate for winter. I was afraid the silhouette of the dress would age me in the opposite direction and make me appear younger. It also wasn’t a maxi – a dress that I’d been gravitating towards for the last few weddings I attended.

Maybe wearing this dress out for a lunch was a little bit much. I like to think that the denim jacket brought it down to casual, but who knows! Another tip I like to try to re-use some of my wedding-guest dresses is layering. The fall and winter seasons are perfect for it. Throw your dress over a turtleneck or long sleeve or make everyone think your dress is a skirt with a chunky sweater on top.

Test Drive

Leather Jacket – Madewell / Top – Forever21 / Denim – Gap / Sneakers – adidas / Sunglasses – Marc Jacobs

For most of my life, I never thought I could pull off a leather jacket. I didn’t think that I had the toughness to own this kind of look. However, as time went on and the more I walked past AllSaints, I started to convince myself otherwise. There are so many instances where a leather jacket is more convenient than any other jacket that I have. Rather than bite the bullet, I decided to take Elisa’s Madewell one for a test drive! It’s a little roomy, but gave me a pretty good idea of how it would feel on me. Readers, what are your thoughts and what are your favorite brands for one? Since it’s such an expensive purchase, I want to make sure I’m doing my research thoroughly.
