A Map of Hip America

Some may call it a nightmare or annoying to have lived in a hipster nation for four years, but can I just say – I loved every second of it? The Capitol Hill neighborhood of Seattle is one place that I cannot shut up about. My only qualm with it recently is all the basic people that have started to overrun it around the time when I left. I’m a music snob and I’m somewhat of a hipster snob, unfortunately. At the end of January (good lord, it has taken me about a month to write this post) Kevin sent me this Gawker article about where to find neighborhoods like my favorite Capitol Hill all over the country.

Who wants to plan a road trip? I need to be with my people.

Check out the article here! Do you live in any of these places? Are they really that hipster? Did the Gawker do a good job or did they disappoint us?

Conversations From 20-Somethings

tumblr_ku02zxtNwC1qzyrwvo1_500

A couple of weeks ago, my former professor asked me if I would be interested in coming into one of her classes and talking about my post-grad life. I was excited about the idea because I absolutely love my university, but I am nervous about it because as much as I have learned in the last year, I’m not sure if anything I say will be able to prepare these students for what their life will be like outside of the Capitol Hill neighborhood and their Jesuit education.

When someone asks me about my life at college, I could talk their ear off. It is where I started this blog. It is the place that instilled in me the core values that I take into my life today. It is the place where we all went away with custom sweatshirts to remind us of our student days. It provided me with opportunities that I never thought were within reach and I was able to imagine ideas and turn them into creations and traditions. There are many current students and graduate students who can relate to my feelings on our university and for that, we have been given both a blessing and a curse.

How Taylor Swift Really Feels

When Tina Fey and Amy Poehler cracked a joke about Taylor Swift possibly going after Michael J. Fox’s son at the Oscars, it was the highlight of my evening. I mean, c’mon it was funny, right? Well apparently, Miss Taylor Swift didn’t find any humor in it and has been quoted by Vanity Fair giving a somewhat cryptic, but obvious comeback:

“You know, Katie Couric is one of my favorite people, because she said to me she had heard a quote that she loved, that said, ‘There’s a special place in hell for women who don’t help other women.'”

Um. Sorry Taylor, but personally I don’t think Tina and Amy can go to hell for making a quip at you. They weren’t the first to do so and they probably won’t be the last, but the ever-so-classy Amy Poehler returned her comment with the following:

“Aw, I feel bad if she was upset. I am a feminist and she is a young and talented girl. That being said, I do agree I am going to hell. But for other reasons. Mostly boring tax stuff. “

Beyonce Has Unflattering Photos

Don’t we all…

It’s nice to know that even celebrities can’t escape unflattering photos all of the time and at the Super Bowl Half-Time Show, that happened to Beyonce. Yes, Bey is the queen and all of that and her outfit and her performance were kind of flawless. It was so fierce though that there’s no possible way that she could keep her face straight the entire time (not that we expected her to.) BuzzFeed captured her 33 fiercest moments from the show and while they are all fierce photographs, they are not all that pretty.

They were so unpretty actually that Beyonce’s publicist actually contacted BuzzFeed asking them to remove said unflattering photos.

They didn’t.

I love blogs.

Taylor Swift And Her Dating

Am I the only one who is confused by how many guys Taylor Swift has dated throughout her career and how short these relationship were? Also, don’t these guys know what they’re getting into? A song. Not just any song though – a song that is most likely to be a hit and one that everyone knows will be about the certain ex.

It’s a trap y’all!

I love love and I understand that Taylor Swift wants to be happy and have these relationships an fall in love like 234978298 times, but girl – you’re all over the place. Should we be slightly concerned? Probably not cause in the end it is really none of our business. Gawker kind of made it their business though with this post “Whom Has Taylor Swift Dated: A Brief History Of All The Men In The Universe

Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween y’all! I hope you’re all having a safe and fun Halloween. I truly felt like an adult today when my co-worker’s kids came into our office for trick-or-treating around the cubicles. I naturally found myself being that girl that asked their parents how many pieces of candy they were allowed, but regardless still gave them a handful each. Kids want that – I know – I used to be one. It’s nice to see everyone getting into the Halloween spirit, but it’s not just the people, it’s the blogs too! Gawker decided to dress themselves up as Tumblr today! Not bad…

The Best Post I Read Today

It’s been a long time since I applied for college and even started looking into colleges. According to Gawker’s “How to Get Into a Good College Now,” everything I did back then would have landed me nowhere basically. Since that was four years ago, I have no interest really in trying to figure out how high school students are going through their application processes because it doesn’t apply to me, but I do feel a little bad if this is all truth.

Before I send you off to read this post, here are just a few of my last pieces of advice since I won’t be writing my school series anymore in the fall.

  • The school that everyone says is the best may not be the best for you.
  • It’s okay to transfer.
  • Anyone that tries to pressure you into going to a certain school ie) a friend, significant other, family etc. doesn’t know what they’re talking about. This is a decision that the grown up you has to make.

That’s all I have. Talking about this makes me nostalgic so I’m gonna have to end this post early so I don’t end up sharing a story with all of you when I was four that involves my grandpa and I and a bad entrepreneurial joke…oh wait – someone did that in their final presentation today.

Inform Yourself: SOPA

[vimeo http://vimeo.com/31100268]

Do you know what the “Stop Online Piracy Act” means? Not many people do. Until yesterday, I wasn’t aware of how it would directly affect me. It will restrict some of my favorite sites that I check out on a daily basis like Twitter, Facebook and YouTube. And if I accidentally post an image that is copyrighted on Yow Yow! or my Facebook, I could face a lawsuit. I can’t explain SOPA better than The Gawker can though so please please take the time to read all about it here and just stay informed because this affects all of us.

How a Break Up Email is Done

Here are four rules that you need to know in order to succeed in both your love life and your life in general.

  1. Never break up with someone over the phone
  2. Never break up with someone over text
  3. Never break up with someone over email
  4. The only acceptable method of going through with a breakup is in person. Have some balls.

There’s always going to be this skeptical connotation surrounding “online dating” and I think it’s partly because you never know who you’re going to meet. One online dater received a breakup email from a guy that she had only gone on three dates with and instead of keeping it short and sweet, the guy wrote a chapter. It’s funny because he breaks up with the girl in such a nice way. The first couple of paragraphs indicate that this is a break up letter, but then he advises her to move to San Francisco to pursue her interests and even mentions the idea of taking her dad out to Montauk. Who is this guy?!  To read the entire letter, click here.

Characters are all over that online dating scene.

Things that aren’t laughable…

BUT I’m laughing anyways.

The major headline that can be found on the Gawker today reads:

Hidden Camera Catches Host of To Catch a Predator Cheating on Wife

Quick! How many funny things can you make up about this headline?
