This Weekend:

What We’re Watching: Bling Empire (Netflix)

At some point, we’re going to have to address how we feel about Asians being portrayed in shows like this. We tolerated House of Ho, but one episode into Bling Empire and I’m already finding it’s a lot less cringe-y. Actually, it is more comparable to Selling Sunset, which people (myself included) seemed to love on Netflix. In the first episode of Bling Empire, we get to know the players and the competitive drama between Anna and Christine. It’s wildly childish, but it’s not my life so I find it highly entertaining!

What We’re Listening To: Death Cab For Cutie – The Georgia EP

Death Cab has always been a constant in my life since I was young so we’ll never miss any kind of release from them. The E.P. itself is short and sweet, but we’ll take what we can get in this pandemic. My favorite tracks so far seem to be “Flirted With You All My Life” and “Metal Heart.” There’s a charming cover of TLC’s “Waterfalls” included that I also think is worth a listen.

What We’re Wearing: Hunter Rain Boots

We were in muddier areas this past week and it was the perfect excuse to slip these on. When I was living in Seattle, this was considered a staple. I haven’t had much use for them in California, but I knew I couldn’t leave them behind. Not only are they perfect for rainy days, which may actually be leaving us as we inch closer to spring, but these will protect you in any smaller streams that you may cross. Those occurrences are rare, but this actually happened this week!

What We’re Eating: Crab Arancini

I was craving pizza earlier this week and have a weakness for Beretta’s Margherita Burrata. It pairs perfectly with their crab arancini that they have as an appetizer so I added this to my order as well. It’s the perfect snack, but I’d happily and easily turn this into a meal. They also serve it with a sauce that reminds me of a sriracha mayo that I honestly need to just have on hand in my kitchen at all times.

Pop of Pink

Turtleneck, Raincoat, Hat – Aritzia / Denim – Levi’s / Rain boots – Hunter

I deemed 2018 the year of the coat because San Francisco receives much more rainfall than South Bay. When I moved up to the city during the summer, I wasn’t seeing the rain quite yet. There wasn’t a need for the coat then, but how quickly things changed. When the annual Aritzia sale came around during the holidays, I honed in on what it was I thought I actually needed and prioritized. One jacket or coat – two if I got lucky (which I did!) I ended up with this raincoat (pictured above) because I didn’t have one and a new wool coat that was reversible and had a great deal tied to it!

In Seattle, you’re not even considered a true local if you have an umbrella. At the end of the day, no one wants to be THAT wet. Between having a heavier raincoat and a lighter one, I chose a lighter version. It may not be that warm, but it will protect me from the drops. It also comes in the classic millennial pink shade that I’m still not over.

Nordstrom Anniversary Sale

Treasure & Bond Print Pleated Top$59 – $38.90

With everything going on these days, I nearly forgot that this sale was about to happen! Thank goodness for my girlfriends and our group text to remind me of the first day for early access. I’m trying my hardest to save my money during my time off right now so it doesn’t make sense to make purchases on things that I don’t need, but the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale has always been perfect for the staples you do need. Around this time, I usually consider the items I’m hoping to make a purchase on for fall or items that I already own that could use an upgrade. Previously, those items have been a pair of classic black heels, booties,  a wallet, and a purse – all of which I have purchased during this annual sale.

Ashley and I stopped by during Early Access this past weekend and while it was thrilling to see the pieces out, there wasn’t anything that I truly needed. That doesn’t mean though that I don’t have a list of things that would be “nice-to-have” and that’s what I’m going to share with you now!

Update: Now that I’ve finished working on this post, I’m convinced I need all of these items. Send help?

Take Me to the Farm!

Scarf and Leggings – Aritzia / Vest – Uniqlo / Mittens – Urban Outfitters / Boots – Hunter

Well what do you know, a Christmas time post in the month of May! We’re behind on outfit posts as usual, but it has always been a tradition to share my moments at the Christmas Tree Farm and this year is no different. I think these outfit posts are always a little bit funny because I end up bringing out the pieces that I rarely wear on the daily – like these BEAR mittens for example. Also, matching my outfit is not a priority hence this get up. It’s not about being stylish (well, it’s a little bit about being stylish) but it’s about being comfortable and having the appropriate attire to cut down a tree  watch Eric cut down the tree.

Treasure Island Music Festival Look

Sweater – Madewell / Pants – Uniqlo / Scarf – Aritzia / Boots – Hunter

The last time I went to the Treasure Island Music Festival was back in 2014 and while I had a pretty decent time, I actually didn’t know if there would be an artist that I would go back for. Lo’ and behold – that group was Honne. Because seeing them once in a year isn’t enough, you have to see them twice. Treasure Island MF fell smack dab in the middle of my busy traveling season and to be honest, I could have used a weekend off, but the tickets were bought and I was committed. To make things even worse, the weather was supposed to be terrible. Now, I’ve endured a little bit of rain at Bumbershoot and at Capitol Hill Block Party even, but I have never experienced music festival rain quite like this. Honne’s set was earlier in the day right around lunch time and it was actually quite warm. This photo was taken right after their set and as you can see, I’m without jacket layer. Shortly after this, the clouds came in, the rain started pouring, and things didn’t get better from there. Artists and bands were canceling for the day because of the weather and/or being delayed despite the music festival telling attendees that the festival would continue onwards in rain or shine. I had a couple of qualms with the way the festival was organized slash how things were communicated, but I also have been there so I can cut them a little bit of slack too. For the most part, I felt like I was pretty prepared with the outfit I had on, but the thing that saved me the most were of course, the Hunters. To this day, they are one of the best purchases I have ever made. Every time I know I’m about to go through a really difficult event with finicky weather, these are my go-to’s and I would strongly recommend them to just about anyone.

Gastown Walking

Beanie – Wilfred // Coat – Topshop by Nordstrom // Leggings – Aritzia // Boots – Hunter // Scarf – borrowed from Mom

Remember the days when I was just too self-conscious to be posting photos of my outfit that we used a space helmet to make things a little bit easier? I’ve learned that when you’re traveling for work, it’s importnat to set aside time for yourself on your trips where you do things that are just for you. Taking advantage of being home in Seattle very recently, I decided to take a trip with my family up to Vancouver so that we could do a little eating and a whole lot of shopping. This was something that Kevin and I used to do when we were younger – taking day trips up to visit our favorite boutiques. Naturally, it was pouring and made for the most unpleasant experience. Shopping in the rain is the worst, but I’m glad I was able to return home with a few new pieces that I love.

A Collection Part 37

I love seeing the difference in A Collection posts between seasons. With summer, there is so much light in these photos, the idea that we have the capacity to do anything, and some weight lifted off our shoulders. I have so much hope for the rest of 2013 and my hope is that it will be better! I hope you all have a lovely weekend and that these photos can do their best to inspire beauty and life into you!

A Collection Part 33

Veronica told me just the other day that I was overdue for A Collection post. In looking through my archives, I see that it has only been TWO months. This is actually probably a new record for us. Like many “A Collection” posts, there is no theme. I wish I had something to say about how I’m feeling or why I chose the photographs that I did, but I choose them because at the time it is what is most pleasing to me!

Enjoy!

Rainboots That Will Change Your Life

I can easily say that purchasing my Hunter rain boots earlier this year was the best purchase of 2012. Why it took me so long to buy myself a pair of Hunters after growing up in Seattle all my life, I couldn’t tell you. Now the brand is becoming even more impressive by releasing the fold-able “Tour Boot.” One of my biggest problems with Hunters was that it was very difficult to travel with them. Putting them in a bag or a suitcase takes up so much room and at times they can be a little bit heavy, but let’s be real – no other boot can do the same job that they can. Now with the “Tour Boot” everything is possible.

You can’t.
