Washed Out

Cardigan – J. Crew / Denim – Levi’s / Booties – Vince Camuto

Is this not the biggest eye sore you’ve ever seen in your life?! I remembered seeing this garage and thinking this is not the backdrop that I would ever want, but it’s so interesting and reminds me of a jack-o-lantern that you just can’t not. I’m convinced that no outfit in front of could make this better, but here we are! I’m in the most neutral of tones and still loving this. Another reason why this is so funny is because the top and bottom photo are edited in two different ways. It’s because I couldn’t find an edit that I was happiest with. You’re an imperfect garage, but someone really does love you enough to not change you.

Holiday Party Wear 2017

Free People Cabbage Rose Velvet Jumpsuit – $98

It’s so hard to know when exactly to start writing this post to give everyone ample time to start their holiday party shopping. I’m also not the best example of this because I have purchased my dress just one week before and then also five months before the party – as in I didn’t even know the date yet, but I knew I wanted that dress! This year, for the first time ever – I have two holiday parties, but both being very different. My own company’s holiday party will actually be in January and will be somewhat non-traditional in that it’s not how most tech companies celebrate the holidays and I won’t be dressing up, but it will still be very special in its own way. The second holiday party will be with Google at the MOMA this coming Saturday! It’s the first time I’ve also gone to one this early, but I’m very excited to accompany one of my favorite couples – Mandi and Eric for what is considered more traditional – an evening of eating, drinking, museum-ing, and dancing!

It’s funny how every year I go into holiday party mode thinking that I want one kind of dress and actually end up purchasing one completely different. This year, I wanted to throw in a not so holiday party dress color – millennial pink! I know it would’ve been a challenge trying to find the perfect one (likely Topshop) but before I even got to searching, I ended up finding a long-sleeved, mock-neck, lace mini from Aritzia. Stick with what you know, right?

Well, in the brief shopping moments that I’ve had, I’ve been noticing a lot of beautiful pieces for this holiday season. I’m taking a break from work this evening to share with you some of my favorite looks!

The Closet: October 2017

Need Supply Co. Farrow Manor Skirt – $78

This is bulkiest post we’ve had in quite some time! Can you tell that we’re getting colder in San Francisco now? We’ve got a few winter coats in here, but also a few accessories that I’ve had my eye on as well. Sweaters completely dominate this post though. It’s all I ever want to wear every day now and for good reason. I think I work my best and my hardest when I’m most comfortable and most comfortable to me just means “most cozy.”

Outside the City / Inside Oakland

Top – Forever 21 / Leggings – Aritzia / Boots – J. Crew

I say this all the time, but I’m so fortunate to live in a city where it’s so easy to get to and from other places. Come September, I’ll have lived in the Bay Area for four years now! One area that I haven’t spent too much in is actually Oakland, which is very very close to me. While Ashley was visiting back in April, she happened to me over there for a conference and we took full advantage of being in the city. It started with a hotel date. It ended with 4 meals in less than a full day and an exploration of every part of the neighborhood. We felt like we had seen a lot of it, but I’m pretty sure we haven’t seen it all so I’m looking forward to the next time I can return and with a list of the restaurants we still have to hit up.

Yow Yow! at the SFMOMA

Top – Abercrombie & Fitch / Duster – Azalea / Jeggings – Uniqlo / Boots – J. Crew

The time in between when I left my last job and when I started my current job was the most calming and peaceful experience I’ve ever had. I can’t wait to share more about that later on with you. I had been wanting to check out the newly opened SFMOMA for quite some time, but never could find the opportunity to until I realized that I no longer had to work away all my weekends. Wenwen was a member of the museum so she took Leah and I one afternoon and it was so much fun! Growing up, I always loved going to museums. They were my favorite kind of field trips and because my father is an artist, I naturally grew up with art around me.

Beautiful Bernal Heights

Y’all! Happy long weekend! I’m so #blessed to be able to have four straight days off (sort of!) I’m doing some light work email only because I am working one day next week and taking that much time off feels very unproductive to me. What is everyone up to? Other than spending the entire day blogging, I’m beginning to start my move up to the city. The boxes have been taken home and instead of physically packing, I’m still in the stage of making mental notes about what I’m actually going to be packing. Let’s just call that… “progress” k? Back in February, my dearest friend Megan came for a visit and we spent the weekend exploring different parts of the Bay Area. Every time my friends visit, I try to go to one new place so that we can both experience something together. In the years of my living here, I had never been to the top of Bernal Heights. The view really is as magnificent as it looks and it’s just a short hike up to the top.

Sometimes It Rains Here

Dress – Aritzia / Cardigan – J. Crew / Shoes – Moms

Is it weird that when I think of combining black and blue together, I actually am reminded of “Black & Blue” as in… the album by the Backstreet Boys? It’s not even that great of an album, but it’s the only thing that sticks for me. The thing about the South Bay is that when it rains here, it’s not actually that cold. I can get away with not wearing a jacket all the time and even though it was raining this day, I was really only outside for a short time. Here, I’m wearing my Aritzia black knit dress (which I wear frequently) with a slit in the back and a cardigan that my mother gifted me with when I returned home over the holidays. I used to be the queen of cardigans and have them in every color, but not this one. This umbrella is a loaner that we borrowed from the office.

Neapolitan

Sweater – Madewell / Cardigan – Oak + Fort / Leggings – Aritzia / Socks – Uniqlo  / Boots – J. Crew

The minute I saw this wall, all I could think of was Neapolitan ice cream! It was never my favorite growing up, but what a color palette right? I wore this during a San Francisco winter day that wasn’t so blistery for a day of shopping and a movie… another personal uniform of mine! We’re gearing up for a move to San Francisco next month (more on that soon!) and I can’t wait to have all the backdrops of the city ready for me!

Half-Tuck

Turtleneck and Skirt – Aritzia / Socks – Uniqlo / Boots – J. Crew / Bracelet – Madewell

I just realized that very recently I wrote on Yow Yow! about power outfits and clearly when I wrote that post, I forgot about this one. This Aritzia get-up is one of my all time favorites and mostly because it’s an outfit that I would have normally never gravitated towards. I had been seeing these two separate pieces from Aritzia pop up everywhere – in my emails, on their website, on display in their stores. Each time, I never had a desire to try them on or make a purchase. It was like the universe was trying to tell me something else though. Finally one day, I gave in. I used to think turtlenecks were old school and also, why would I have wanted a turtleneck that isn’t super thick and as sheer as this one? Turns out, it’s one of the most comfortable things I own. It’s actually really nice to not have it be very thick because it means I don’t get stuffy in the sweater. It’s also loose fitting enough to wear untucked or tucked into this perfect suede skirt. I didn’t want to purchase the skirt because I was afraid of not knowing how to take care of it. I also worried that it wouldn’t be as versatile, but it turns out even if it isn’t – it goes well with this turtleneck completely so that’s enough for me. The rest of the photos in this series make my laugh. The bracelet shot below makes it look like I think it’s a watch when it’s not. Also, we may have gone a little overboard on the editing in the last photo, but I like that my hair is the color of FALL and my surroundings.

Fall in Layers

screen-shot-2017-03-02-at-3-52-09-pm

Dress – Oak + Fort / Jacket – Aritzia / Boots – J. Crew

For the fall, I really enjoy wearing this kind of color palette. The weather is typically a little bit more dreary so these all feel like comfortable staples to me. I remember spending most of my college years looking for a jacket like this one. After scouring through all of the retailers both in stores and online, I was never able to find the perfect fit. And then came Aritzia and of course as we know, years later everything I buy there just happens to be a perfect fit. This jacket is no exception. I purchased this back in 2011 and to this day, I can’t imagine parting without it. It’s the perfect cover-up and even though it’s not black, it still goes with everything in my closet.
