Starbucks Japan Is Better Than Us

It’s almost like they are two different companies. With a menu already offering cherry blossom inspired beverages, Japan is now offering a drink on their menu (for a limited time) called American Cherry Pie Frappuccino. Did you guys catch that? It’s American, but it’s over in Japan and we’re so jealous! Yes, of course we want that pie topper for ourselves. Why does no other American Starbucks offer us a frapp on the same level as this one? If you’re visiting Japan this spring, make sure you drop in (for all of us that can’t) and purchase the drink offered from April 13 to May 16.

McDonald’s Cherry Blossom McFlurry

I haven’t had one of these since I was a kid, but when I saw this announcement I was immediately curious about it. First off, how cute is it that they have a Cherry Blossom McFlurry?! Can American McDonald’s have one too? Conveniently timed with the cherry blossoms in Japan, this McFlurry is topped with sakura mochi (rice cake sauce) and has swirled in bits of soft pink waffle cone. Yum! This special McFlurry is available starting today in Japan McDonald’s and is being priced at $2.60 USD or 290 yen. This special treat will be available through March until early April.

Coffee Spread

Good morning! We’re sliding in this post just in time for you to have your breakfast and for you to ponder and consider if you would like your coffee to be spreadable and on toast. Full honesty, I looked at this and not one part of me had any doubts about it at all. First off, I believe in giving most everything a shot, but this doesn’t sound bad. We have toast at breakfast. We have coffee for breakfast. Ain’t nothing wrong with simplifying some processes. What do y’all think? Would you give it a try?

Japan’s spreadable coffee will be available starting March 1st.

Sushi Kit Kats

Don’t worry, no one is asking you to mix your favorite candy bar with raw fish, but how cute are these sushi themed Kit Kats? From left to right, you’ve got Tuna, Sea Urchin, and Tamago and I’d say the brand did a pretty good job of rendering these.

Tuna is raspberry atop white chocolate rice while the urchin is really Hokkaido Melon and mascarpone cheese Kit Kats wrapped in seaweed. Tamago is pumpkin pudding.

For your chance to purchase Sushi Kit Kats, you can get them at the Ginza location between February 2nd-4th. It’s limited to those who only spend over ¥3000 JPY (approximately $26 USD).

In Really Scary Things Today…

The character from The Ring through the first pitch at a baseball game in Japan.

C’mon…they couldn’t have just picked a celebrity like everyone else?!

If you’re looking for more creepy moments, just watch this video because she brings out two of her “dead” friends.

How Japan is Raising Independent Kids

I was completely amused by watching this video that I stumbled upon the other day. I think it’s probably because as a kid, I totally thought I was independent, but after watching this I’m now second guessing myself. I was independent in that I wasn’t someone that always needed to be around people, but could I always do things by myself like adult things? No. Would I be able to walk to school? No way, it was too far. So I took the bus with 20 other kids every single day and the bus stop was right outside of my house. I can’t believe this girl took a number of trains every day, but it makes sense when Japan’s crime rate is so low that that’s something that you just don’t have to worry about.

The cruelest part of the video though? Seeing those kids cry when their parents force them to learn how to be independent. 🙁

Japan’s Sweet Robot Bears

It’s official. Japan is totally winning on the generosity scale. Designed by a Japanese robotics company called RIKEN, the “Robear” was designed to assist the elderly in a number of ways by lifting them in and out of their beds and helping them into and out of their wheel chairs – a task that can sometimes be a burden for caretakers. Japan is expecting a much larger elderly population in the next coming years and sees the Robear as a huge benefit so that those who would like to take care of their elderly parents can instead tend to their jobs and have the Robear step in. Wow. Can I just have a Robear for assisting in my day to day life?
