Seth Meyers to Replace Jimmy Fallon On Late Night

It was revealed recently that Jimmy Fallon would replace Jay Leno on the Tonight Show when Leno retires in Spring 2014. But the question remained, who would fill Fallon’s shoes on Late Night? Well, it looks like that man is none other than Seth Meyers! Seth is by far one of my favorites from Saturday Night Live. I’m excited to see which direction he will take this show in, but I have no doubt at all that he won’t disappoint.

Today, Jay Leno confirmed the rumors that have been swirling for some time now – that he would be leaving the Tonight Show and that Jimmy Fallon would be coming in to fill those shoes. Spring 2014 is set for Leon’s departure after a 22-year run as host. Additionally, the Tonight Show will move back home to 30 Rock in New York leaving its Los Angeles home behind. Congratulations Jimmy! This is an incredible step for him in his career.

Seattle Music + Late Night Television

It was a HUGE night for Seattle music on NBC last night. Allen Stone performed his single “Sleep” on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno and Macklemore went HAM with The Roots performing “Thrift Shop.”

I’ve got both performance respectively for you here and here.

Proud.

Celebs Being Funnay

“A lot of people sing from their chest voice, and I sing from my breast voice.”

– Pitch Perfect star Rebel Wilson, who belted out Lady Gaga’s “The Edge of Glory,” on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno

“We’ve got to get the elephant out of the room – obviously, what everybody’s thinking about when they look at this is, what were you thinking with Jingle All the Way? I mean seriously, just dreadful.”

– Jon Stewart, making light of Arnold Schwarzenegger’s cheating admissions in his upcoming memoir, Total Recall: My Unbelievably True Life Story, on his talk show

Song of the Day

She & Him – The Christmas Song

I’m usually not the type of person to toss my Christmas spirit onto everyone and everything, but I am kind of…a closeted Christmas freak. I decorated the family tree this past weekend – half the ornaments were contributed by me because of elementary school projects and you know, other side projects of my own. The one-eyed Popsicle reindeer, knitted Sanrio ornaments, stuffed Koala bear, and an angel with my face on it? Oh yeah – the artificial family Christmas tree belongs to me except it was purchased by my father and it was the best present to come home to after that one day in fifth grade! Ain’t no thangggg. I even considered buying myself this mini “vintage-inspired” tinsel tree from Urban Outfitters for my home, but that idea kind of came and went.

Currently watching  She & Him perform one of their songs off their holiday album on Leno and it is amazeballs.

I love peppermint Hershey kisses and

every time I return to school and the enormous ornamented Christmas tree is set up in the student center, my heart cries a little. Tears. of. burstful. joy. It’s glorious. There’s really no other way to describe it.

and…every once in awhile, it’s okay to have an obnoxious Christmas post too.

It happened

I’ve got a guilty mainstream artist crush on Gabe Saporta of Cobra Starship.

I just caught myself blushing at his performance on Jay Leno. I always am left wondering how he looks so good in all of his performances, but I realized it’s because Sabi  (the girl that sings in the song w/ him) just isn’t a very good performer.

He is dating Erin Fetherston. Hipster musicians… I can’t help it. My life is embarrassing.

Congratulations Andy Grammer!

So I forced myself to stay up tonight to catch Andy Grammer’s performance on Jay Leno and it was incredible! To this day, I can’t believe that I had the opportunity to see him two years ago in Santa Monica as a street performer. His CD is spinning on my Spotify every week. I have so much faith and hope for these kind of things and it’s the reason why I love what I do. I know that there are some people who have strong opposing views towards the music industry and that’s fine – to each his own. Call it me being naive, but I know what I know through my own experiences and that’s enough for me.

I know what makes me happy and I know when to be happy for others. So maybe there are some things about the music industry that are not right. That doesn’t mean that an artist didn’t work hard for where they are today. That doesn’t mean that they don’t put any passion into their work. There is always going to be something in the world that we aren’t going to be content with, but don’t try and take that away from musicians and artists.

Congratulations Andy. I can’t wait to see the success that is coming your way. You’ve really made it!

I Scratch Your Back, You Scratch Mine?

Hi readers!

I’ve got one special request for all of you today and throughout this weekend. I don’t usually ask for too much, but I am looking for an influx of new music. I want to know what YOU are listening to and I want to hear what up and coming bands and musicians you think I should be listening to. The last time I requested this, you all were kind of shy on your responses, so I’m going to help you along by sharing with you what music I am currently listening to. Hopefully, you’ll be inspired to help me out.

Thanks!

Eliza Doolittle

I first heard of Eliza Doolittle a few weeks ago after watching her perform on Jay Leno. Her sound is reminiscent of a decade that reminds me of the 80′s, but I could totally be wrong. The girl is cheeky and sassy and her personality is clearly represented in her music. Almost immediately after I watched her perform, I downloaded her self-titled album.

Sounds like? Lily Allen

Favorite Tracks:

  • Pack Up
  • Roller Blades
  • Missing
  • Skinny Genes
  • So High
  • Back to Front

Foster the People

Okay, so I finally discovered Foster the People last night on The Vampire Diaries, but this was not my first time listening to them. This morning, I not only heard them on the radio, but found out that the band will actually be playing at Sasquatch next month as well.  You kind of know that something is up with a band when you are hearing about them a number of times within 24 hours from various outlets. Currently, they have only three songs on their EP, but that’s basically all you need to know about the band.

Sounds like? Empire of the Sun, MGMT?

Favorite Tracks:

  • Houdini
  • Helena Beat
  • Pumped Up Kicks

White China Gold

Thomas Hunter is truly a man of many talents. He is the guitarist of Kay Kay and His Weathered Underground and Wild Orchid Children and now he is debuting his first solo project White China Gold. I’m convinced that there is no one in the Seattle area right now that is as versatile as he is. His new album is absolutely beautiful and manages to capture the city’s essence perfectly in this new jazzy and serene sound. I cannot wait to see this man live on a stage someday soon because he is easily one of the best guitarists in Seattle.

Sounds like? Kay Kay and His Weathered Underground and Thomas Hunter

Favorite Tracks?

  • One-Footed Bastard
  • Window Mouth
  • White China March
  • Strange Sad Magic

Lenka

I have said everything I could ever say about Lenka and still after nearly three weeks of having her latest album entitled “Two” I have been unable to stop listening to it. Usually, it is at this point that I’ve exhausted the entire thing, but not this one.

Sounds like? Feist, Sara Bareilles, Ingrid Michaelson

Favorite Tracks?

  • Sad Song
  • Roll With the Punches
  • Heart Skips a Beat
  • The End of the World
  • Everything’s OK
  • Shock Me Into Love
  • You Will Be Mine
  • Here to Stay

The Dodos

Listening to the Dodos’ new album “No Color” can seriously make my day so much brighter. It is an incredible album to listen to from my study playlist, but also one that I can enjoy just about anytime anywhere. The band has been around for awhile so they are nothing new, but this album kind of is – therefore it is very relevant to this post. It’s as if every album they put out keeps getting exponentially better.

Sounds like? Fleet Foxes and The Shins

Favorite tracks?

  • Don’t Try and Hide It
  • Sleep
  • Black Night
  • Companions
  • Don’t Stop
  • Going Under
  • Good
  • Hunting Season
  • When Will You Go?

Oh look, that’s the whole album track listing right there, what do you know? :)

In the News…

- Chris Brown exploded in a rage in his dressing room after appearing on Good morning America this morning. It was speculated that his actions were triggered when asked about the Rihanna incident. However, Chris Brown was fully aware of which questions would be asked beforehand as he gave approval. Chris Brown allegedly used a chair to smash the window of his dressing room. He is still on probation and this will most likely be in violation of that. [Source] Oh hai, how are those anger management classes treating you? oh and [Source]

- I was so disappointed when I heard that MTV had given Lauren Conrad’s new show the boot especially because it was supposed to be shot like a documentary and be beautifully artistic. While we may never see the show, we do have a chance to see the opening sequence that could have been done by Angela and Ithyle who are also the duo behind those Kindle ads! Kate Walsh Pulls a Gaga

Paying homage to the HBIC Lady Gaga, Kate Walsh decided to wear a sushi dress for her appearance on Jay Leno last night.

“I was inspired by her meat dress [from the VMAs]. It’s a sushi and sashimi dress. I’ve got all the accessories. Ring, bracelet, Louboutin prawn peek-a-boo shoes.”
