2019 Oscars After Parties

Gabrielle Union in Valentino

If you thought the red carpet was the main event, think again! Coming up, you’ll find looks that are a little more daring. The slits are higher, hemlines shorter, and everyone that wasn’t invited to the actual event shows up for the party. These looks were designed for the after parties and it’s something to get excited about! Many of the nominees arrive to the after party events in a second look! Like every year, this year’s event was no exception and everyone looked grand.

Readers, any standout favorites for y’all?

2019 Oscars Red Carpet

Constance Wu in Versace

The award show has only just begun, but we decided to get a head start on our post. There are so many standout looks this year and a few surprises. I found myself falling in love with a look worn by an actress who has a history of never having looks that impress me. Anything can happen! This year, the awards show is without a host, but we honestly haven’t noticed much of a difference. Here are the looks from this evening and I’ll be sure to indicate my favorites!

2016 Met Gala Red Carpet

Alicia Vikander in Louis Vuitton

This is always one of our favorite events of the year and all today, I wanted to just continue refreshing Fashionista so that I could see the live coverage of all of the outfits. Instead, we worked. And every 45 minutes, we ended up refreshing, but then the days get ahead of us so now we’re playing catch up now. Here’s what we did see – we didn’t like Taylor’s outfit. Not one bit. We hated Selena’s boots. We weren’t surprised by Nicki Minaj and we loved Chloe Moretz and Bee Shaffer, but what else is new?! Now, let’s get to the coverage – it’s pretty much the post we’ve been waiting for all year long. This year’s theme was Manus x Machina. This also kind of hits home for us because well… you know, tech!

Someone’s trying a little too hard, right?

Oscars 2013 Red Carpet

Jennifer Lawrence in Dior Haute Couture

– Lawrence is a Dior girl through and through. Now being the face for the brand, we sure can expect her to be wearing it a lot more than she has already.

[Readers! I’m sorry I missed the live Twitter feed for the red carpet today. I hear this year’s stars were on point with their looks. Unfortunately, I had to attend to some personal matters and that was much more important than blogging today. Thanks for your understanding!]

Commentary: Grammys 2012

photo cred | Billboard via Getty Images
  • Did anyone see Bruno Mars’ silly tantrum backstage after Adele won for best pop vocalist?
  • Chris Brown. Quit your lip synching or gtfo the stage.
  • I don’t think I could ever get sick of The Foo Fighters.
  • I actually enjoyed Dave Grohl’s speech and appreciate him for voicing his opinion, but  it’s a shame they cut him off…
  • I could’ve sworn I saw a twinkle in Mark Foster’s eye when he was singing The Beach Boys’ “Wouldn’t It Be Nice.” My heart melted because it felt like he was just singing straight to me.
  • John Legend grooving to The Beach Boys was also quite adorable.
  • The Beach Boys are looking and sounding pretty great for their age! It feels like just yesterday I was watching them on that one episode of Full House.
  • Nope Chris Brown, we don’t have to forgive you. The Grammy’s can put you in our faces all they want, but I’m not budging.
  • Even though it wasn’t well received, I loved Taylor Swift’s dress during her performance of “Mean.” Now if I could only find out who the designer was…
  • Neil Patrick Harris is a babe.
  • I am still amazed by Katy Perry every time I hear anything about her and her music. Does anyone remember the poor review I gave her nearly two years ago? She’s grown as an artist definitely, but I’m not taking back anything I said. Her new song has potential for being the new girl anthem of 2012 though.
  • Adele SLAYED w/ her performance!
  • Bon Iver for Best New Artist – YAY! Great speech.
  • Jennifer Hudson’s tribute to Whitney Houston: Flawless
  • Nicki Minaj’s performance is not as family-friendly as I thought it would be. It was downright terrifying.
  • Adele is also the loveliest human being ever.  What a doll! She totally deserved all of her awards tonight.
  • (and none for Lady Gaga – sad day)

On an important related note, this HelloGiggles post about why people shouldn’t be okay with Chris Brown performing at the Grammy’s is quite insightful. I’ve had a similar opinion for awhile, but usually when I talk about that I make jabs at his performance and the more obvious scandal. This writer, however, has got some pretty solid facts and it is worth reading. And not to start something controversial, but the reason why that HelloGiggles post is mentioned on Yow Yow is so we can avoid things like this. It’s important for all of us to remember that there’s a border between a play on words or a play off pop culture, but this is not one of those times. It’s not cute anymore especially when it involves Chris Brown. Typing things like this out as a tweet is not the same as feeling the same way or wanting to be in that situation. Not being able to tell the difference between these things frightens me and makes me fear for the safety of other young women that have this notion in their head that it is okay to say these things.

Met Gala 2011

François-Henri Pinault with Salma Hayek both in Alexander McQueen

There was an unbelievable amount of love for Alexander McQueen and Stella McCartney at this year’s 2011 Met Ball. I think out of all the Met Ball’s I have seen, this one has provided the most looks that I have fallen in love with. Well done everyone.

This year’s theme was in tribute to the late designer Alexander McQueen as the museum debuted a new exhibition in his name. Since there were so many attendees this year, I decided to post only my favorite looks (and a few others)  – don’t worry, it’s still pretty image heavy!

Where was Camilla Belle this year?

Oscars 2011

Natalie Portman in Rodarte

I’m pretty sure it’s impossible to be the worst dressed at the Oscars these days because just about everyone has a stylist. I can’t say anything bad about the gowns worn this year, but obviously there are some I like more than others.

American Idol to include online auditions

Can you believe that American Idol is already going into their 10th season? I had no idea that the show had been running for so long, but then you remember all of the contestants that have been impacted by the show – Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Chris Daughtry, Jennifer Hudson, Jordin Sparks, etc. In its 10th season, the show is about to undergo some major changes, the first being a new lineup of judges. We have lost Ellen DeGeneres after one season, Kara DiGuardio after two, and Simon Cowell who has been with us from the start. Randy Jackson will still be at the judge’s table along with newbies Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez [who will be earning $12 million for her contract with the show.]  American Idol has always been searching for “the next big superstar” so they are making sure they have all of their bases covered by lowering the age to audition to age 15. You never know how many Justin Bieber’s could be out there.

This year, American Idol also plans to allow auditions to be recorded and posted on MySpace. [I see we’re trying to bring this one back again.] From now until October 6th, contestants will be able to post a 40-second video of their audition, but are limited to just one audition video per contestant. They will be judged just like on American Idol and then receive callbacks to Los Angeles if chosen. If they are judged just like they are on American Idol, does that mean the judges will give criticism via…MySpace comments?!
