Joseph Gordon-Levitt for GQ

Oh. my. goodness.

He is the dreamiest of all dreamboats. That tie clip –  I just can’t handle it. The full article is actually worth reading as I have found that it paints JGL from quite a few perspectives. However, there is a controversial mention of his brother’s death in the article, which JGL is not happy about and has commented on it here.

Is it just me or does this not look like Joseph Gordon-Levitt for some reason?

A Collection Part 30

A Softer World

Happy spring readers! We’re long overdue for a Collection post so I thought I would leave you with one before I embark on the rest of my spring break venturing for the week. It’s definitely shorter than usual, but still packed with pretty pictures. I wanted to kick off this collection post with a comic from one of my favorite sites, A Softer World. Together, they are the perfect combination of beautiful photography and witty thoughts.

Enjoy!

Other Videos You Need To Watch Today

So I ran into a little hiccup earlier today that has kept me from posting on Yow Yow.

It was a slow news day anyways, but not for new viral videos!

I’ve heard multiple covers of Adele’s “Rolling in the Deep,” but nothing compares to this performance by 15-year old Park Ji Min. This rendition performed on the Korean singing competition  K-Pop Star (like our American Idol, The Voice, X-Factor) is what everyone is talking about today!

Picture this. You’re out with your friends on a weeknight at some bar when it just happens to be karaoke night! Drake and Rihanna’s “What’s My Name?” Yes, please! That’s my jam right there. You get on stage and oh! Drake joins you to rap his verse!

Bound to be the best night ever, right?

Two of my favorite movie characters Summer and Tom reunite to sing this New Year’s duet originally sung by Nancy Wilson. Swoon.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt on a fixed gear – not a hipster

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pn6ie1zCkZU&feature=player_embedded]

The trailer for Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s new film “Premium Rush” has just been released. I can see that it’s an action thriller type of a film, but I’m still not getting much of a sense for it from just the trailer. Think you guys will see it when it comes out in 2012?

A Collection Part 26

As I was laying in my deathbed the other day recovering from Bumbershoot, five feet away from me Veronica shouted “KATIE! COLLECTION POST! When are you going to change your header?” I’m not sure if many of you realized this by now, but Veronica is one of the few people I listen to when it comes to Yow Yow. Oh and I also listened to Evan when he told me the other day that my Foster the People rant was “SO HIPSTER,” which made me so self-conscious that I decided to delete it altogether.

The road to recovering from Bumbershoot has been steady, but has obviously set me back a little bit. On top of that, I’ve also gotten some new hardware! YEAH! So I’m busy making transfers and starting fresh all over again. It’s safe to say that at this point, Yow Yow! will no longer be doing 17 posts a day as summer comes to an end. That’s right – it’s finally hitting me, but what an incredible last summer this has been for me. I am grateful to have had this opportunity to spend time with my family and friends and to actually have time to focus on myself more than ever. That’s not meant to sound selfish at all. Anyone that knows me will tell you that I am usually MIA throughout the school year (unless they work with me/have classes w/ me) because I am constantly on the go. For once, I got to experience what it was like to have absolutely nothing on my plate. I even got bored a few times – most likely during the time I spent writing those 17 posts.

Anyways, since I won’t be doing much posting over the next couple of days, I thought I would do a Collection post for all of you to enjoy!

Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s Visit to Seattle

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u-dGX9DQXAs&feature=player_embedded#!]

If you’re like me and were wondering what Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s hitRECord project was all about, check out the video above of him covering Nirvana’s “Lithium.” It is all over the internet today. Awww, aren’t we so lucky because this is the only city he could play this in.

Only slightly regretting not purchasing myself a last minute ticket.

Out on the Town: 8/23

Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Is. In. Town.

So what is he doing here, exactly?

Well, he is inviting the locals of Seattle to join him in an evening of interactive movie watching for his series called, “hitRECord.”

“hitRECord.org is an open collaborative production company where members can contribute their work in various forms including music, videos, text and drawings. ‘RECorders’ are then encouraged to add, edit, remix and collaborate with each other. At hitRECord live-events, Gordon-Levitt presents these collaborative works, while simultaneously using the live setting to interact, collaborate and create new works with the audience.”

Nerd Herd

On the season finale of The Glee Project, my favorite contestant Cameron returned for the final episode. While I was extremely happy that Damien took home the win, I don’t think I paid that much attention to him as much as I focused on the scenes Cameron was actually in. Bree and I agreed last night that while it is obvious that he is talented, there is definitely something that draws our eye towards him throughout the entire episode. Sure, it’s his voice and the hipster attire, but another part of me thinks that it is because he represents a group of people  that has never been a part of the in crowd: the nerds. There’s no one like him on Glee or even on television right now.

As we all know, I’ve got a pretty sweet spot for the nerds – as do many girls. Can you really find a reason to not like one? I mean, have you ever seen a douchey nerd? And I’m not talking about those pretentious characters in television shows, I mean in real life. They don’t exist! They never cheat, except for that one episode of Saved By the Bell. They are known for being the shy smart types. They’ve got a type of style that isn’t mainstream and they always seem to know what’s going on before everyone else. A blogger’s dream right? Today, I learned from HelloGiggles that there’s actually a distinction between geek, nerd and dork. Who knew, right?

In short:

“Geek- Smart but not awkward
Nerd- Smart and awkward
Dork- Smart in less useful areas, awkward but proud regardless”

Feel free to read the rest of the article here:

What I also recognized today was the similarities between a nerd and a hipster. The same transition process occurs when scenesters become hipster. In this case, you start out being a nerd and develop into a full-grown adult-sized hipster. I’ve decided to highlight some of my favorite nerds in this post, but I’ll let you be the judge as to whether or not they are really as hip as they appear to be.

[Cameron Mitchell – The Glee Project right]

I think I’ve talked enough about Cameron in the text above so I won’t exhaust you anymore. He is basically the proudest nerd I have ever seen promoting the “Nerd Herd” in his YouTube videos, on the television series, and even in his music.

[Michael Cera]

Self-explanatory.
