The Lumineers x La Blogotheque

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yp8zoatou2E#t=329]

The Lumineers played two shows in Seattle this past weekend back-to-back as I discovered from my Instagram feed. So it almost seems fitting that I would come across a performance of theirs by La Blogtheque – the blog that brings people takeaway shows! Here they are performing “Ho Hey” and “Big Parade.” Looks like fun!

In The Open

About two years ago, I wrote a post about La Blogotheque, a music blog based out of Paris that would host spontaneous performances by some of our favorite musicians including Phoenix and Feist. Today, I’d like to introduce to you another blog with a similar concept called In The Open.

“We are people who love music to put it simply. Ranging from writers, designers, photographers, and cinematographers we all love music equally and want to spread as much music as possible in just about every format we possibly can.”

In The Open does just that while allowing musicians to record a performance in open spaces such as parks, woods or even overlooking skyscrapers. I’m sure musicians appreciate this so much because it is rare for them to be able to sit out at these places and just perform – especially for a park – without being hounded or given song requests. It’s sort of a trade off a musician makes after making it big so it’s great to hear that In The Open is providing this type of space for them.

Camp MGMT

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Hj4ZpiWxjM&feature=player_embedded]

CAMP MGMT is the name of the movie. on take away shows it’s usually just the name of the band but this is not a take away show. it’s part of our new “take away documents” series. it will feature longer and more documentary videos. also, for the anecdote, “CAMP MGMT” is a reference to the name the band gave to their place in brooklyn, where this video takes place.

La Blogotheque

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=io_pXLtY0R0]

La Blogotheque is a Paris-based music blog that records videos of well-known bands having impromptu, completely spontaneous, concerts around Paris.

Can you imagine if you were one of those lucky people able to catch this kind of a set? I think I would pee my pants a little being only 3 feet away seeing one of my favorite bands. I think what La Blogotheque does is great! It can be tough sometimes when a band you would really like to see is so huge, they only play at arenas and music festivals. There is something so attractive to me about intimate shows like this and it actually says a lot about the band and musicians themselves too.

Here is Phoenix performing one of my favorite songs “1901” in front of the Eiffel Tower.  It’s amazing.
