Stopping in Sin City

The second part of my summer vacation this year included a very last minute decision to go to Vegas! I had my doubts at first, but ultimately knew I would be in good hands with 30 of my current and former coworkers. We don’t have too many photographs to share – because well, my parents still read my blog, but if there’s a handbook for how to “Do Vegas,” that was the experience I had. Even though I was there for nearly 48 hours, the weekend felt like it was one long continuous day.

From the minute we stepped off the plane, we dropped off our bags, headed to dinner and started our pre-game. If you remember, last year I went to Vegas for the first time as an adult with Leslie and Tommy. We had nearly the same experience, but different as well. Turns out when you have more people in your group, things can get out of hand pretty quickly (in a good way!) and you can spend more money on fun things – like bottle service! I’m convinced that once you’ve had it, you can never go back.

If I could pick my favorite spontaneous moment of 2019, this would be it. Never could I ever imagine that I’d be on a weekend trip to Vegas with my coworkers and what this weekend would ensue. It was worth the week-long hangover.

A quick summary of everywhere we went:

  • [Venetian / Palazzo] (accommodations)
  • Zedd at Omnia
  • Kygo at Encore Beach Club
  • Alesso at XS
  • Water Grill – at Caesars

I promise I had more meals than this, but for some reason…I can’t recall.

Summer’s End (Almost!)

We’ve been absent from Yow Yow! for the last couple of weeks, but for the best reason. Every year, I always head back to Seattle for a week and this year we opted for something different. Instead, I chose to try two weekend trips back-to-back! It was ambitious and I just left recovery mode this week, but it was much needed. The downside to these trips is that even though you’ve still got mostly a full work week in between, you still find yourself falling behind in work.

I couldn’t imagine a summer without any kind of vacation though. I’ve read that it’s actually healthy to take at least one vacation per quarter though my friends are all over the map with that. Many of them are traveling every other weekend for fun while others are traveling for work and planning their vacations in between. I’m convinced it’s not something that I’ll ever master, but I’m learning! My two weekend vacation could not have been more opposite from each other. First, we kicked things off in New York where I visited by two best friends and survived the hot and humid summer. Then I came back to a shortened work week and spent 48 hours in Vegas with 30 of my coworkers.

I couldn’t wait to get out of the office today to just come home and decompress. We all know that I always get a little home sick while I’m away too so a weekend (sort of!) in is much needed. For those of you that are here in the city this weekend, I hope you all have a blast at Outside Lands! Initially, I wanted to be there too, but your girl needs a break.

Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas Married In Vegas

Trust me when I tell you that I never thought Sophie and Joe would become one of my favorite celebrity couples. I’ve always been a fan of The Jonas Brothers from the start, but I have never really watched Game of Thrones. I don’t even know their backstory even though I’m sure I could find it out in five seconds through a Google search.

Sophie first caught my eye when she appeared in their comeback music video for “Sucker” alongside the other Jonas wives. Back then, she was still a fiance, but a total scene stealer in the best way possible. Her moves were dynamic and unforgettable. Who could forget her taking a bite out of the bush? The two were slated to marry this summer in Europe, but then in a curveball move, headed to the alter in Vegas after the Billboard Music Awards. Did anyone see this coming? Both reps for the two have already confirmed that the two are, indeed, married. Diplo even live streamed the event for his Instagram. It’s poor taste because I would never do that, but it felt like all rules were out with this one. Congrats to the happy couple! Sophie wore a white Bevsa jumpsuit, but we can’t wait to see what she wears for their 2nd summer wedding.

Summer Travel: Las Vegas

Y’all might be surprised, but my first time experiencing Las Vegas post age 21 was just this past summer. Of course, I’d been to Vegas when I was much younger, but of course was too young to really know what it was about. While planning our travels, Tommy, Leslie and I could have flown straight into Arizona, but knowing that I hadn’t spent much time in Vegas, we figured that this was the better starting point. It also gave me time to read the likes of this sun vegas review and also practice playing some casino games online before I ended up hitting The Strip. Did you know there are so many different bonuses/tips for when you play online? (Check out sites like casino-bonus.me.uk to see how). Once we were there, in one day, we were able to experience both a pool party and a night club. It’s pretty much the most partying I’ve done in one day since I could last remember. Okay – the last bachelorette party I went to. There is nothing quite like a night out in Vegas, and if you don’t hit at least one casino, you’re not doing it right. If you’ve got an upcoming trip then you’ll certainly want to get a bit of practice in before stepping onto the casino floor for real. Take a look at sites like this so you can find some of the top online casinos out there right now to begin playing on – https://www.best-casino.net/.

The best way I could describe my experience in one word is: distracted. At all points during the day, I felt like I was on sensory overload. My attention was being pulled in so many different directions. There were many characters and I couldn’t seem to find myself focused on any one thing. I also found this part of my vacation to be the least relaxing out of all the spots! The big, neon lights on the other hand were a welcome distraction, I’ve even been looking at sites like Neon Mama to create my own neon light to bring a slice of Vegas home.

It might be because I’ve been watching too much of the show “PEN15” lately, but in a place like Las Vegas, I definitely felt like an uncool person. It didn’t help that I showed up to the pool party wearing my swimsuit inside out or that I started the morning off with an enormous burger in my hand rather than a drink, but what can you do? Vegas is packed with some of the most beautiful people and the best bodies. It’s strange to share because I haven’t admitted this before, but being in this environment made me feel completely self-conscious. It was like being a fish out of water. What helped me through this was that at the end of the day it’s just a vacation. This is not my life 24/7 and when I return to my own life after this, so will everyone else.

Granted, I see the appeal. I completely understand why men and women love Vegas. One thing that I didn’t find to be true is that it’s not that much cheaper for women. Maybe I’m doing it wrong, but I did feel like we spent a fair amount of money. If I had gone to Vegas while I was younger, I think I would have enjoyed my experience more. This time around, I was clearly too old and likely too sober. That being said, I would not have wanted to do Vegas with anyone else other than Tommy and Leslie who are pros.

Life Is Beautiful Fest 2014

This is the first I’m ever hearing about this festival. Why is the lineup so good? I was expecting this to be some sort of EDM show, but wow – this is too good to pass up. Is anyone thinking of going? October sure does sound like a good time to be flying to Vegas!

Performance of the Day

Justin Timberlake performed “Cry Me A River” this past weekend at the iHeartRadio concert in Vegas and definitely threw some shade at his ex Britney Spears.

Fast forward to 2:20.

Oh Justin. Don’t you know you dodged a bullet…

MTV Will Marathon Vintage Real World Seasons

For this weekend only, MTV will air three seasons of their hit series The Real World: New York, San Francisco and Las Vegas (because that season was cray!) The marathon comes just in time for the premiere of the newest season, which kicks off in Portland. Why is Seattle never considered part of the Real World marathons? Just once…please.
