Lemolo Parts Ways

photo cred | North Kitsap Herald

When I was much younger, seeing a band break up was the first break up I ever experienced. I always felt in a way – not that I was responsible for it – but that maybe I could have done something differently. If only I had bought their album instead of recording their songs off of the radio with my cassette. If only I had gone to that one extra concert on a school night, would the band still have broken up? Probably. Young me just didn’t know any better. As I grew up and watched more and more bands break up I realized that it was a natural part of life. You break up with your significant other. You break up with your job. You break up with your hobby. You break up with your band and it is okay. What I’m saying is – Lemolo you had an incredible 5 year run – one that I have always stood behind. You were the definition of dream pop in Seattle and I absolutely loved  your songs. We will never forget you. Meagan and Kendra, best of luck to ya!

Meagan will continue on with Lemolo without Kendra and is currently working on new songs for which we can’t wait to hear.

Timber Outdoor Music Festival

The state of Washington is adding yet another music festival to their roster! So far, they’ve only given us the partial lineup – but wait a second, can we just take a brief moment to appreciate the color and design of this poster. ALL PASTEL COLORS. It’s perfection. Congratulations to my favorite locals Lemolo, Bryan John Appleby and my former schoolmates at Seattle University – Kithkin for securing themselves a spot on the lineup. Tickets and camping go on sale today at 10AM

Katie’s Favorites of 2012

Favorite Style Icon: Taylor Swift

T. Swift has seriously stepped her game in 2012. Yes, she’s still sticking to the neutral colored dresses – but hey! That’s okay. It works for her. Taylor Swift is really just doing all the right things when it comes to her style these days and it helps that there are a handful of fabulous designers throwing their pieces at her. It’s awesome. I, of course, am jealous.

Runner Up: Michelle Obama / Kate Middleton

Dream Pop

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9RSXJUG8Sa0&feature=player_embedded#at=25]

Happy Tuesday everyone! Since I’m feeling a little bit generous, here’s a bonus song for your day today and guess what? I selected this as a Song of the Day just over three weeks ago too!

No, but seriously? I love this song. Lately, I’ve been immersing myself into this new music genre I like to call “Dream Pop.” On a spectrum of indie/little-known to mainstream, Ellie Goulding would ere on the mainstream side. The dream pop genre typically has female leads. It’s the kind of music you want to listen to before you go to sleep or if you’re trying to channel the Seattle University student, you might listen to dream pop as you reflect. Whether you’re feeling inspired, calm, or at peace, dream pop will kind of be like your best friend. The lyrics always know the right thing to say and you’re not likely to whirl wind into a fit of rage after listening to it. When I listen to dream pop, I like to imagine that people envision clouds and goals being achieved. Who wouldn’t like a genre that makes you feel like you can do anything and that anything is possible?
[EDIT: After 1AM, I cannot control the statements that I write on this page.]

I actually went to a show this past weekend for Lemolo featuring two lovely ladies from Seattle and front women of the genre. I did my best to film several videos, but I wasn’t happy with the end result so you won’t be seeing them on the blog, unfortunately. However, you get this video above of Yuna – Live Your Life and that should do it!

Music Spotlight: Lemolo

This music spotlight is actually a little overdue because I have been listening to Lemolo on repeat for the past month or so! If you’ve got a great memory, then you might remember that I featured these lovely ladies back in February as the Song of the Day. Since then, Lemolo has been making headlines left and right and earning spots on this year’s Bumbershoot and Doe Bay Fest lineup! While I won’t be able to see them perform at Doe Bay, I am very much looking forward to their set at Bumbershoot near the end of the summer! I was also surprised to learn that Miss Melodie Knight of Campfire OK is their booking agent as well. That band can do no wrong…therefore…neither can Lemolo! I can’t wait to get their full length. For now, you can listen to their two songs on repeat like I do here.
