In the News…

I figured that I had better just make a roundup post…

Nicole Richie and Joel Madden got married this past weekend! No pictures have been released yet, but Nicole did wear 3 gowns – one being a Marchesa custom-made wedding gown for the walk down the aisle. Also, there was an elephant present. Not an elephant in the room, but an actual elephant stomping all over Lionel Richie’s estate where the wedding was held. Paris Hilton was not invited.

Natalie Portman is on the cover of Vogue’s January 2011 issue and for some reason this cover looks extremely vintage. I’m not diggin’ on the awkward hand placement.

The Client List – Review

Last night, Lifetime premiered the new Jennifer Love Hewitt movie, “The Client List.” The premiere gathered about 3.9 million viewers! I’m not all that surprised considering how much hype was going around the movie. It was well-publicized to the point that I almost felt it didn’t even need to be on Lifetime let alone a Lifetime Original. I don’t think it was a good enough film to be shown in theaters, however.

Samantha Horton, an ex-beauty pageant queen married to her high school sweetheart quarterback, has three children and no income coming in. The couple are on the brink of foreclosure and struggling to find ways to make ends meet. With her husband recovering from a previous injury, Samantha Horton feels the pressure on her shoulders to support her family and put meals on the table. Sam has hope that her previous skills from being a physical therapist will be put to good use at the Kind Touch massage parlor, but she is caught off guard when she realizes that her clients expect more than just a good rub down.

Homecoming

I guess I shouldn’t have gotten my hopes up with this film. I recently was reading my daily news and saw that this movie was coming out, but it turns out it was released in 2008. It must have made the news because of it’s release on Lifetime, which is where I watched it last night. I had high hopes because this one of the only acting gigs I had seen Mischa Barton in since her OC days – and the film was directed by Morgan Freeman. He’s a pretty decent actor, yes – but how was he has a director? So-so.

In the story of Homecoming, Mike [Matt Long] and Shelby [Mischa Barton] were the small town’s perfect couple. Everyone knew who they were and everyone thought that they would stay together forever. We all know that that rarely ever happens, but a girl can hope. Mike went away to college and one year later he brought back his new girlfriend Elizabeth [Jessica Stroup] for the homecoming ceremony. Shelby, however, still thought that they were together during the school year- weird. Anyways, Shelby tries to win back Mike while he’s home and kidnaps Elizabeth even though that wasn’t her initial plan.

Basically, Shelby’s crazy. I ended up rooting for Elizabeth the whole time naturally and developed a like/hate relationship w/ Mike. I expected Mischa to prove her acting skills in this film, but she kind of just let me down. Maybe it’s because I’ll always see her as Marissa Cooper. She may have done some crazy things in her time, but  Marissa Cooper would never kidnap any girlfriend of Ryan’s.

In the News… [some really messed up news]

– Despite his entire personal life being splashed across the front pages of newspapers and tabloids and his god-awful new nickname of “cheater Woods,” Tiger Woods was still voted the top athlete of the decade. Really…?

Bilboard has also declared Nickelback as the band of the decade. What is wrong with the world?

– Today, Cincinnati Bengals receiver Chris Henry passed away after he suffered severe injuries upon falling out of a pickup truck during a messy dispute with his wife. He was discovered on a residential road and rushed to the hospital, but it was too late. He was 26.

– Our country is beginning to lose that “hope” that we were instilled with when Barack Obama became President this year. The numbers and percentages regarding optimism and reflection over President Obama’s job in the office have been declining rapidly. The numbers are online somewhere I’m sure, I watched the segment on NBC nightly news last night. If you thought our unemployment rate was bad in Seattle… well it’s 50% in Detroit. Yeah, that’s terrible.

– When I was nine years old, I was singing along to Spice Girls. These days I guess it’s okay for a nine-year-old Noah Cyrus, sister of Miley Cyrus, to be singing Akon’s “Smack That.” Does the girl even know what the lyrics mean? Miley’s camp is cheering for her like it’s cute, it’s not cute. It’s just discomforting.
