Let’s Watch Movies!

Movie Trailers:

The Kids Are Alright

I just adore Mark Ruffalo. Also, the actor from one my favorite movies “Little Manhattan” has grown up and is also starring in this movie.

Nic (Annette Benning) and Juls (Julianne Moore) were incredibly happy together. To complete their family, they decided to conceive by artificial insemination. Joni and Laser are two teenagers living in suburban Los Angeles. After Joni turns 18, the siblings decide to try and contact their biological father. He seems a bit out of place, but both Joni and Laser are just happy to have him back in their lives and hope they can have the father figure they always dreamed of.

What is love?

I think I’ve questioned love for a very long time. I grew up knowing the Disney way, the reality way relating back to people in my life, and from a standpoint of just observation.

My philosophy midterm paper due Monday is challenging me to actually give some kind of a definition for it. The prompt that I made up is as follows:

Diotima and Socrates have different views and accounts of love. What elements of their definitions still exist today and what has changed? Messages about love portrayed in movies evoke strong emotions to their audiences. Throughout the stages of our lives (childhood, adolescense, and adulthood) we develop our own ideas. Do these match up to what love is “supposed” to be?

The three movies I’m using:

Little Manhattan
