The Closet: Jan 2021

[Vince Tapered Pants] – $245 – $171.50

Somehow 2021 got us into different types of pants. However, given the current state of the world, isn’t that going against the grain a bit? I’m personally taking it as a sign that we’re all just more than ready to get back to normalcy. More than ever, I was hearing from my colleagues that they are ready to get back to the office in January. As much as we all appreciate the flexibility of loungewear, anything in excess starts to become a bad thing. We’re a few days late on this post, but here are some of my favorite pieces from last month:

A 2021 New Year’s Eve

[& Other Stories Ribbed Sweetheart Neck Bustier Midi Dress] – $129

You may feel uncomfortable dressing up for New Year’s Eve this year without any plans. Power through. I’m a huge believer that you get what you put out into this world. If dressing up and making yourself look and feel good for one evening makes the difference, then you should do it. Every year, I kind of dread New Year’s Eve personally all while still writing this post annually. Just because I don’t have big plans doesn’t mean I don’t want you all to look great. And because this year has just been A LOT, I’m planning on treating myself in the best way possible.

The Closet: July 2020

[Free People Lou Jean Babydoll Dress] – $128

With just a few more weeks of summer left (can you believe it?!) it’s tough to know what to shop for. Do we continue to buy summer wear and hope for clearance or do we begin prepping for fall? San Francisco summers make it hard to decipher. In this week alone, I found myself purchasing a swimsuit that I may not use this season and a half-zip long sleeved sweater. It’s clear that we are also still trying to figure this out. This month’s post teeters on both seasons if you’re like us and can’t make up your mind. For once, it also has a hearty mix of accessories along with it!

The Closet: June 2020

[H&M Denim Jacket] – $30

We’ve transitioned to “there is no point in shopping” to “we’re in this for the long haul!” While I’ve never considered myself an online shopper… I’m not lying, I use Amazon once a year, there is a joy that is associated with receiving packages. And that goes for any type of package, not even just the shopping you’re doing for yourself. In times like these, where it seems like things will never get better, we have to treat ourselves. My justification is that I still need clothes to wear to work for my video calls. Also, because of our social media presence, it helps to have outfits that you can be excited by. I promise to be responsible, but I am also going to be making a shopping purchase as soon as we hit “post” on this.

The Closet: May 2020

[Matteau Tiered Paisley-Print Cotton Maxi Dress] – $540

It’s official! We’ve made it to summer. It’s the end of the month so like clockwork, we always write one of these posts. It has been many many days at home and we’ve reached the point where I have caved. I made my first online shopping purchase just a couple of weeks ago to allow myself to have more flexibility in my rotation of leggings. It’s not lost on me that if I continue to shop more that I still won’t have a place to where these new pieces out to. However, with that thinking in mind, the leggings seem like they will serve a good purpose. Whether you’re shopping right now or not, may these pieces below provide you with some inspiration for whenever you’re ready.

The Closet: April 2020

[Lirika Matoshi Hearty Corset Midi Dress] – $449

It’s interesting to look back and see how much shopping was incorporated into my life. On a lazy, but nice weathered weekend, I would easily find myself in Hayes Valley or Lower Pac Heights just to browse. Extra time after work before a happy hour? You can find me at the mall most likely picking up something that I likely didn’t need at the time. In the last year while doing a deep dive into my finances with a friend of mine, I learned that I shop to find joy. Now you’ll notice that sentence looks different than “I find joy in shopping.” On some of my worst days, for reasons I couldn’t explain, spending money seemed like the solution to solving my problems.

Since I was able to detect that in myself months back, shopping during quarantine hasn’t been an issue for me. In a way, it’s almost refreshing to a) save money and b) discover the clothes that I actually like to wear

Can you tell that we’re excited when shelter-in-place gets lifted and we’ll have a chance to donate some things? I do have to admit though, while I haven’t done my “usual” shopping, I did just purchase a set of 3 cloth masks from Etsy. I felt that was a necessary purchase.

The Closet: December 2019

[Callahan Hannah Skirt] – $88

Okay, so I know Christmas just passed and all and maybe we have everything we need. But isn’t the new year, even a new decade, just the perfect reason to refresh your wardrobe? This post, combined with our gift guide and what to ring in the New Year with may seem like overkill, but I promise it’s not. Sometimes, we just want and need things that don’t fall into either of those categories.

Whether you received some wearable pieces this holiday or took advantage of the after Christmas sales, I hope you have in possession something that makes you feel good. You deserve it.

The Closet: November 2019

[Donni Sherpa 1/2 Zip] – $249

It’s our last guide before we get into the holidays and November is all about the cozy! Temperatures in San Francisco have been rapidly declining and as much as I love to bundle up at home, I still rely heavily on my space heater. We totally missed the concept on layers. Most of everything in here has to do with warmth, but I’ve thrown in a few fun pieces as well!

2019 Met Gala Red Carpet

Liza Koshy in Balmain

I had to look up the “Camp” theme several times to figure out what it truly meant. I’m still not quite sure if I understand the definition of it. My takeaway is that it’s pink, tulle, and crowns and we do not hate it. In all honesty, I’m a huge fan of the pink carpet and I loved many of the looks from the evening. However, I will say that this year was the most extravagant. What I loved about previous years was how wearable these looks have been and instead it’s turned into a little bit more of a spectacle than I would have liked. Maybe that’s what the point of the Met Gala is. It’s supposed to be a showcase of whimsey and imagination and if that’s the. case then I will get on board next year, but for now I want to hold onto what I thought made this event on the first Monday in May every year so special.

The Closet: March 2019

Sandy Liang Booth Pullover – $525

We may have curbed our spending habit, but that doesn’t mean we have to ignore the trends completely. I’m still keeping my finger on the pulse of trends because you just know that the markdowns will come once we hit the summer season. I might have to break my shopping habit at least for the next couple of weeks because Angel and I are headed on vacation! Since we’re friends, wear the same size and equally admire each other’s wardrobes, we’re doing something a little different for our trip. As we start to plan out our agenda for a whole week, we’ll also be visiting each other’s closets so we can outline together what we want to bring! What this means? Wearing our own clothes, sure, but also mixing it with each other’s clothes to make new outfits! Yes, we are quite unique.
