Oh man, if I had to pick the most enjoyable award show to watch of the year, it would have to be this one. From start to finish, I loved so many of the performances. There were even some that surprised me! There were also many artists that won this year who were so deserving: Dua Lipa, H.E.R. and Kacey Musgraves to name a few. Every year the red carpet at The Grammy’s tends to be hit or miss and this year is no different. I have fewer favorites than I usually do, but it’s still important for us to showcase them.
I heard this song for the first time yesterday on my Spotify Release Radar and posted it here the same day. The original is more upbeat, but I liked this slowed down version of it and it included Miguel. I remembered seeing this and thinking that the title was different. This version was titled / Nilda’s Story. Not knowing who she was or what that meant, I posted it anyways.
When I woke this morning, I finally learned the backstory. This song accompanied a video. And Nilda is the name of the woman who’s story is featured in this short doc style video above. Her story follows her as she details how she immigrated from Honduras to the United States with her son Keydan. While it hasn’t been an easy journey for her, there’s some hope at the end of it. The context of this song now means so much more than just a slowed turn version of what I thought it was before.
Every day that I have to read another story about parents and their children being separated while trying to immigrate is heartbreaking. There are strong assumptions being made about the people that try and this video for the [While They Wait] campaign shows another side. It’s the side should everyone should see and believe in. This campaign is meant to “help raise awareness and support for immigrants, particularly those seeking asylum and/or facing family separation.”
Does anyone still love watching music videos as much as I do? It’s something that I loved growing up watching TRL and now that they’re not as common, I probably spend a little bit more time than I would watching some of them. I’ve actually been enjoying this song all spring and thought the video ended up being pretty cool. I could never hate anything that comes from Miguel and Dua Lipa has been putting out great singles for the last year or so!
We call this the baby maker game changer because Miguel is one of our all-time favorite singers and his lyrics are so smooth and so very steamy. This track, in particular, is just everything you’ve ever wanted in a hook-up track. We got you. It’s a little different to be picking this song on a Sunday at 8AM, but we’ve been saving this one for ya!
After two days in a row of not blogging, I’m spending my “Friday” night getting caught up on everything I missed! Miguel performed “Coffee (F****** in the Morning) on GMA this week and it was so so good. I haven’t had a chance to listen to Miguel’s new album yet, but I’ve been waiting for this for a very long time since my friends got me hooked on Miguel back in January. Can’t wait to sit down and listen to it from start to finish.
