Summer Getaway in LA

screen-shot-2017-01-31-at-3-46-53-pm

I had the opportunity to take a pretty last-minute trip to Los Angeles this summer and every time I go back for a visit, the list of places to go continues to get longer since there are so many Los Angeles activities for tourists and Angelenos alike. We were just there in the fall of 2015 to see Gelesia, but even still it felt like there wasn’t enough time to do everything. On this trip, we checked out a few new places and returned to some of our old favorites! I’ve never imagined Los Angeles as a place that I could call home, but I wouldn’t mind spending an entire week there. We’ve still got plenty of neighborhood to explore. During our trip, we must have had four meals a day and only retreated back to the hotel for sleep and getting ready for the day/night’s activities. I know we’re six months away from summer, but we can’t wait to get back there already. I hope you enjoy our LA photo diary!

Our first meal off the plane was going to be Lemonade, but since I had heard that LA just got a Shake Shack, YOU KNOW I made us pivot. How good does this look?

Yow Yow’s Yearly Recap

We didn’t intend to be as late on this post as we actually are, but unfortunately, we’ve just been a little bit under the weather. Also, if I’m being honest, I was actually dreading writing this post for the longest time because I knew how these stats would look and I wasn’t particularly excited about them. In 2015, these are the most dismal numbers we’ve ever seen. But instead of throwing ourselves a pity party, we’re going to share the numbers and then we’re going to move forward because I paid for another year on this domain and we’re not going to let it go to waste. I’m still really excited about Yow Yow! I went through each month in 2015 and quickly scanned through all of the posts that I wrote – some that I laughed at and some that I had forgotten I had even written this year. Writing in 2015 was hard and it’s often times difficult to juggle this and a full-time job that I really care about, but if we can do this for six years, we can do a 7th.

Stats from 2014 will be on the left and italicized while stats from 2015 will be right and bold:

1,400,602 total visits to Yow Yow! – – – – – – – – – – – 1,471,487 total visit to Yow Yow!

In just 2015 alone, we had 70,885 visits to Yow Yow!

Milk Jar Cookies

Processed with VSCOcam with hb1 preset

While I was in LA last weekend, I mentioned to Gelesia that we had to stop by Milk Jar Cookies before my flight. I actually blogged about them two years ago when they first opened their shop on Wilshire, but because I don’t visit LA that often, I never had a chance to stop by. Luckily, Gelesia is like me and we LOVE eating multiple meals a day and both have a sweet tooth. She had never been there either so it was kind of fun discovering and introducing something new to her! We were hoping to get to the airport around 5ish and the shop itself was closing at 5 so we made it in with five minutes to spare! I was so worried I actually decided to call them up and ask them if they could maybe you know… stay open for a couple minutes after. They couldn’t guarantee it – as expected, but it was worth a shot! We were nearly frantic about these cookies. Gelesia and I weren’t the only ones who had the idea of coming in right before closing because as soon as I arrived, a line quickly formed behind me. I felt slightly guilty that I was about to purchase a dozen cookies (there was barely a dozen left!) knowing that there might be some people behind me that were going to be unhappy with me snatching them up! I guess I’m just really glad/lucky that I came when I did.

How darling is this shop though? It’s literally a pastel dream. Because I like my co-workers so much I purchased a dozen for them to share the next Monday and encouraged them to cut them in pieces so they could try a bunch of flavors. My favorite Sherwin decided to eat a whole Rocky Road cookie though because he didn’t read my email that closely. Kid couldn’t help himself!

  • Banana Split
  • Chocolate Chip Walnut
  • Chocolate Pecan Caramel
  • Cinnamon Sugar
  • Mint Chocolate
  • Oatmeal Chocolate Chip
  • Rocky Road
  • Lemon Blueberry (which G and I shared on the car ride to the airport!)
  • White Chocolate Raspberry

I’m not even lying to you; these are the best cookies I’ve ever had. Sometimes I think I’m on the verge of shipping myself another dozen because I love them so much.

Even the box was all done up! Each cookie came in its own plastic wrapping with a sticker detailing which flavor it was. When I sent the email out to my coworkers that I had brought these back I told them that it was “literally a party in your mouth.” And the box is a party too.

Currently Craving:

Milk Jar Cookies!

The new shop opened up in Los Angeles yesterday and after reading about the new opening, I have started to come up with ways on how to get my hands on one of these scrumptious looking cookies. Maybe Gelesia will be oh so kind to me and send me a box? If you have a chance, stop by Milk Jar at 5466 Wilshire Boulevard, LA, CA 90036.

And if the menu doesn’t sell you enough on cookies like Cinnamon Sugar, Mint Chocolate, Chocolate Raspberry, Chocolate Chip Walnut and many others, then their adorable website will.
