The Flavr Blue – Ghost

This song wasn’t featured on either of their albums, but it’s one of my favorites to see them perform live.

The Weekend: 5 Things

Processed with VSCOcam with t1 preset

My boss had a moving rummage over the past weekend and having been an avid collector of vintage trinkets and lots of dinnerware, I inherited a set! I don’t cook very much anymore, but someday I will start it up again and when that happens, I’ll at least have this very pretty set for my guests.

I somehow convinced him that he was going to love this movie. Bachelorette is one of my favorites and is totally underrated. I think I discovered it last year with my girlfriends last summer and while I loved it, he did not.

My coworkers and I got a DJ set by Questlove on Saturday night at the Mezzanine and it was pretty rad. There were some on/off moments during his set, but it’s Questlove so can you really hate on anything he does? Of course not. I wanted to be best friends with him obvi.

cards

I have a slight obsession with greeting cards. We stopped by The Museum of Craft and Design in the Dogpatch Sunday morning, but didn’t really make it into the actual museum part of it – just the gift shop. We were entertained for a solid 15-20 minutes. These cute little greeting cards caught my eye, but unfortunately, I didn’t make any purchases.

welcome stranger

I can’t know this for sure, but I’m guessing the┬ábest part about being a boy is probably being able to wear all of these amazing pieces. As much as I love women’s fashion, there is a fascination that I have for menswear as well. I was introduced to Welcome Stranger on Sunday in Lower Haight and wish I could’ve picked out a few for myself. Well, in some ways I got to do that, but I just got to pick them out for someone else. :)

Performance of the Day

I did a poor job of streaming Coachella this year and missed every single performance. I’m very grateful that some of my favorite artists on Twitter are reposting some of their performances though so that I can play catch up. This Disclosure x Sam Smith performance of “Latch” is a song┬áthat I never get tired of.

Capitol Hill Block Party 2014 Partial Lineup

cbhp2014

When I learned that the partial lineup would be released this morning, I had my laptop in… lap at 8:55 AM ready to go and not willing to miss a thing. The partial lineup isn’t the entirety, but it’s enough to hold us over and give us a tease of what’s to come. By the looks of it, if these are the names they are releasing now, then the rest of the lineup will surely not disappoint. I saw both Chromeo and Matt and Kim at the former Street Scene San Diego Festival years ago and have been itching to catch a performance of theirs ever since. I also was able to catch Beat Connection at Bumbershoot this year as a last minute filler to their lineup and am so excited about all of their new material.

Not bad Capitol Hill… but don’t make us wait too much longer for the rest. We’ll be waiting.

Song of the Day

Atmosphere – Kanye West

Today’s Song of the Day is actually a song I listened to and discovered yesterday. The video is kind of confusing, abrasive, and so true to its name. It basically follows what I assume to be a very non-typical Bonnie and Clyde caring very little about everything. I could elaborate a little bit more with this description, but Noisey did such a better job with it that I’m just going to include theirs below.

At the Noisey office, we keep incessantly saying “turn up” to each other, to the point that the phrase has lost all inherent meaning, transforming into a phonetic formulation, devoid of context. Atmosphere has done something similar with their newest single “Kanye West,” taking the name of the biggest rapper in the known universe and turning it (up) into a refrain about giving a damn and a fuck. The video for “Kanye West” is a reminder that true love knows no borders, laws, or suspicions that your partner is using you to help knock over a bunch of convenience stores.

Begin Again

It’s kind of almost like The Voice sponsored a movie. How they got a pretty good lineup of actors/actresses is confusing to me. Would you guys watch this film?

The latest film from writer-director John Carney (ONCE), BEGIN AGAIN is a soul-stirring comedy about what happens when lost souls meet and make beautiful music together. Gretta (Keira Knightley) and her long-time boyfriend Dave (Adam Levine) are college sweethearts and songwriting partners who decamp for New York when he lands a deal with a major label. But the trappings of his new-found fame soon tempt Dave to stray, and a reeling, lovelorn Gretta is left on her own. Her world takes a turn for the better when Dan (Mark Ruffalo), a disgraced record-label exec, stumbles upon her performing on an East Village stage and is immediately captivated by her raw talent. From this chance encounter emerges an enchanting portrait of a mutually transformative collaboration, set to the soundtrack of a summer in New York City.

Pretty Lights – Lost and Found ODESZA Remix

Has anyone watched Divergent yet? I caught the film last week in San Diego with Ashley and was obsessed. I hate to say it, but I think I loved it a little bit more than Hunger Games. Additionally the soundtrack was amazing.
